The South Beach Diet that is. Today is my first day. I understand that the first two weeks are the hardest, so a lot of prayers and wishes would be great ::yes::

Also I have looked up information on the South Beach Diet, and have read a few comments here. Any other info, good things to eat that are low-carb, and tips would be appreciated. I have 35 pounds to lose. I hope that while I lose the weight, I lose the sweet tooth too...........

Hi!

Today is my first day on the South Beach Diet too. I have a lot of weight to lose. I won't even mention the actual numbers. Anyway, how has your day been? Mine has been pretty good. I started getting a little anxious before lunch. The only thing I haven't done is drink a lot of water. For some reason I just can't get in the habit of it (not to mention that I don't like it very much).

My days been good so far. I have been a water drinker since I was little so drinking water is the easy part for me. I prefer water over anything else. My big thing today has been the sweets. My daughter has eaten honey buns and now ice cream. I think it's strange. It's not that I really want the sweets to eat, my brain just keeps telling me that I do. Hmmm. I guess that needs exploring. Sweets is really a comfort food for me. Guess watching my waistline shrink will have to be my new comfort.

You really need to drink water. Because you are taking in a lot more protein, you need the water to help your kidneys process the waste from burning protein for fuel. Additionally, if you start getting withdrawl headaches, water helps immensely. I wasn't a water drinker either, but now I have water with me just about everywhere (speaking of which, I need to fill my bottle again).

If you can't drink water, try herbal teas (no caffeine). Try to limit your caffeine intake to less than two cups of tea, or coffee or diet sodas per day. We like sugar free iced tea (sweeten it with a little Splenda), sugar-free Tang (be sure to count that against your 75-calorie/day sweets/treats limit), and crystal light drinks.

And welcome to the Beach :D

Welcome to the Beach to both of you!

If you can get through a clean Phase I period, your craving for sugary stuff should lessen considerably. There are so many wonderful food options open to you. You don't have to stick to the recipes in the book. You can take your own favorites and make some adjustments to them. I've done that with several dishes. I've also experimented with some new recipes and for the most part my family has been pleased.

Tonight for dinner we are having crustless pizza with fudgey cocoa no bake treats for dessert (I converted the treat recipe to be SBD friendly). I've made brownies and cheesecake since we've been on the beach and of course you can have sugar free fudgesicles for dessert.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I believe there are several of us on SBD on WISH. Let us know your progress. And to Miss Kelly, I have a total of 137 pounds to lose. I have lost 27 pounds as of yesterday and I started 12/1/03. I am thrilled with my progress and know that this time next year I should be at my goal. If I can do this, anyone can. Like I said, if you need some encouragement or advice, don't hesitate to ask. Everyone here has been so helpful and I would love to pay it forward.

Thanks for everything. I tried Akins and lost 20 pounds. I fell off, but feel that SBD would be better for me and my family. I will definately ask for help. I will need it.

That is what we are here for - to support each other! Check back and post often, there is usually someone milling around the boards. Take care!

WELCOME TO THE BEACH!!!

I am doing SBD also and it does get easier. But the rewards are so worth any discomfort for the first few days. Hang in there DO NOT GIVE UP! And if you feel like giving up give a hollar and we will come to the rescue:hug:

I'm on South Beach too. I just started Phase II the other day. Phase I was difficult, but I will tell you that all of my cravings for sugar are gone! It's unbelievable. I have a tremendous sweet tooth and now it's under control. Phase II is much easier. I believe that this will become a way of life. Will I make mistakes and eat things that are not good for me - of course I will. I'm a human being, but MOST of the time, I'll be making healthy choices and I think that is the goal.

Good luck!!!

Good morning all. Day to on the Beach. Husband already asking what can we eat. He's feeling good and so am I. Have a great day everyone.

Hi all!

I was glad to find this thread. I am currently on my 5th day on the beach and have lost 4.5 lbs so far. I also have "a lot" to lose (and will just leave it at that for now) and have tried just about every diet out there.

My last diet was WW during which I ate lots of "low fat" but "bad carb" foods and although I stuck to it for 15 months, I had miserably slow progress (when you have so much to lose and can only lose ounces in a week for long periods of time in spite of sticking to program and working out, it's frustrating, and I tried everything to work the program).

I've already lost twice as much in 5 days (I know it's water weight but you also have the water weight loss when starting any diet) than I EVER lost in a week on WW, so I am encouraged that this WOE agrees with me. I would be completely thrilled to lose a steady 1-2 lbs a week!

I'll be checking back for more south beach info.

The beach is great - but be prepared for lots of food prep time (chopping, etc) . I think the food is wonderful! Make SURE you eat the ricotta dessert - it will help with your sweet cravings....I found a brand of ricotta that is 100 times better than the Sargentos or Polly-Os.....its called Calabro - I get it at whole foods - it is so much creamier and flavorful - I feel like I'm eating ice cream when I add the splenda and vanilla! YUMMY! Good Luck !
I lost 6 lbs my first week but this past week I fell off and enjoyed a LOT of peanut m&ms- the snow? the kids home from school for 3 days? Anway I haven't reweighed - too scared...but I'm back on - and trying to be strict so I can feel okay in a swimsuit at Disney!:bounce:

*but Man those m&ms were good!

I'm glad to see so many of us on the SBD. I'm thinking of posting a support group and weigh-in type of thing for us on the other board. I wonder if anyone would be interested in this?

I have found the secret to the Ricotta deserts - prepare it in a blender. We have a hand blender with a whisk attachment and it makes it so smooth and delish.

Hello!

I haven't had very much time to post this week due to work, school, etc. This is my 4th day on the SBD and so far so good. I cheated a little on Day 2. :o I tried to resist but just couldn't. I am doing much better on my water but I'm still not drinking enough. I am getting a little tried of meat though.

Yes, I am definately interested. Maybe it will keep me motivated.

Thanks!
Kelly

Good idea about the blender! I also like to stick mine in the freezer for 15 minutes to get it GOOD and COLD!!!

Hi SM and other SBDers out there!

I would definitely be interested in a daily thread. I belong to one on the lowcarbfriends site and I love it! We post our menus each day and whatever else we are doing to stay with our woe. Would you start it on this board or did you mention starting it somewhere else?

Lisa F - I have a lot to lose as well. 110 more pounds to go to be exact and I know this time I will get there because this program is so easy to follow. Let's support each other!

I love SBD and have lost 27 pounds in 2 months. The foods we eat are delicious and I enjoy experimenting with different treats. For those with a penchant for sweets, I have recipes for peanut butter cookies, cheesecake, brownies, fudge, cherry and apple pie and gooey fudgey peanut butter no bakes. I don't feel deprived at all and definitely see myself eating this way for life.

I hope this doesn't get too confusing with too many Lisas!

I would love if there were some kind of "daily thread" for the SBD crew. I could really use a reason to think about my menu for the day, and get a swift kick in the pants to exercise (I am trying to motivate myself to go to curves this afternoon) and hear about what other people are doing.

Lisa, those recipes sound awesome! Since I am still on phase I, I've been trying to figure out how to fancy up the ricotta dessert. I've made "cheesecake" several different ways. I've found that my food processor does a good job on the ricotta to make it smooth and fluffy. I've got 3 or 4 variations on it, as well as a "muffin/popover" recipe that I haven't tried yet (all phase I sweet ricotta creations).

I'm loving eating this way, though, and can definately see doing it forever. That scares me because I am afraid it won't work for me, or will stop working, but that's mostly because of my experience with WW. I went to the doctor and had all kinds of tests run, that's how frustrating it was, but everything came back normal (not sure whether to be thankful about that or not!).

Anyway, I'm glad to find others who are on the beach.

Lisa

Let's go girls!

I am shooting for 10 pounds (fat, not water!) My dh doesn't want me to lose because unfortunately my chest is the first to go...LOL - oh well, it's the only way to deal with the thighs!

I'd love to support one another.:grouphug:

Trust me , this plan works...whenever I feel some inches creeping up (like after holidays) I use this or the zone and it comes off in a snap!

I also find that moderate weight lifting speeds up my metabolism and helps me shed pounds faster - and tones.

Check out bodyforlife on th web - he gives specific instructions on exercise that WORKS!

:bounce: Here we come bikinis....just keep swimming...just keep swimming!
