..And wear my glasses full time now. :thumbsup2

I am shortsighted and was given glasses about 2 years ago. Only while driving yesterday I discovered that I needed to improve my vision. I was driving on the A12 (I was worried intially but that's another story) and I couldn't see people's brakelights far away. And I WAS wearing them..

So, I decided to go and wear them more often to try and improve my vision. I've just spent the whole day wearing them. To be honest, I hardly notice wearing them at all and sometimes forget they are there! :rotfl:

Have you had an eye test recently Matt??

I had one in the Summertime. I had some glasses that wear supposed to be temporary and then I would get a re-test 6 months later. They never came back, in fact I rang them up 2 YEARS later and asked about it and only then gave me an appointment. :guilty: We were with Boots, and despite this I still think they had good service. (So no saying "Should of gone to Specsavers.." :rotfl: )

Of course, my sight had gotten worse in that time, so they gave me new glasses to which I am wearing as we speak. But, only just. I would normally have them in a case and then put them on when needed. After Friday, no more!

I don't know when my next appointment is, but my mum does so that's the best thing. :)

Hi, I would make another appointment as you should be able to see clearly with you glasses on.

Thanks. I think I am about due now anyway if it's still going to be 6 month again. I have no clue how long I was supposed to wait, but I shall investigate and check back.

Drivings really the thing that really makes you need them, its easy to convince yourself you don't really need them untill then.

I used to wear glasses but thanks to the magic of laser eye surgery no more glasses for me.

Ooh.. Do tell! :thumbsup2

How was it? Did it hurt at all? How much did it cost? Come on, Spill the Beans! :rotfl:

OK,

Firstly you have to wait until your a minimum of 21 and can prove you've a stable prescription for a good few years.

There are two basic types of surgery.

1) EPI-LASEK (type I had)

For my operation they used alcohol to melt part a layer of your eye then gently push it back.

Then they fire the laser which took about 40 seconds per eye, it makes a cool cracking noise, and if you move a tiny bit it powers down. You can smell burning during this bit. :thumbsup2

Then they push the layer back and pop protective contact lenses in, which stay for a few days.

You can see sort of after you walk out of the operation room, but in about 1hr your eyes just shut them sleeves and its painful to see light etc.

Your given sleeping pills and plenty of painkillers and tons of eye drops.

Took about 2-3 days in bed with curtains drawn all day :rotfl:

Took about 2 weeks until I could drive again, but vision took about 1 month to become better then 20/20.

Cost for this option, I paid £799 (brought it on eBay :rotfl: was an offer)

2) Lasik
Option 2 is not painful and you can gain perfect eyesight quicker, and you can return to work the next day, costs a bit more probably about £1000 or so.

Main difference in the procedure is the use a tool to cut a flap on your eye and bend it back, do the lasering then pop it back.

But the results are much quicker.

I choose the first option from reading the internet etc, I decided that it would be safer to not have my cut etc and just put up with the pain.

The sleeping pills were great fun, I had some amazing Hallucinations, one time I was convinced I had contracted MRSA and I had to live in quaranteedn for six months :rotfl:

In Summary it can be completly painless if you want it to be.

I wear glasses most of the time, except on the odd occassion when I change to contact lenses, found your explanation of Laser Eye Surgery really interesting, thanks :thumbsup2

Chrismoo, Thanks for the Introduction into laser eye surgery. :thumbsup2

I don't think I'll do it if I got the chance.. You don't really consider your eyes as place to get surgery so people (like me unfortunately!) may think it slightly gross.. But, thanks for letting me know this before I'd actually go out and try it!

You don't want to watch the video on youtube then ......

:rotfl2: :lmao:

Even I can't watch that one and I've had it done.

Hi Matt have you ever considered contact lenses i have worn them for 11 years and would never go back to glasses Bex has just started wearing them and loves them.

i used to wear glasses full time till i had lasik :thumbsup2 my only regret was that i had not had it done 10 years earlier :)

Same here. I struggled with glasses for years. Had them blasted three years ago and could see better the next morning. :thumbsup2

I'm in a similar boat to Matt

I'm currently wearing glasses (Trying contacts, with trouble) and I'd be quite scared having surgery on my eyes. Mainly because of the side affects (Although they say rare) such as poor night vision.

Me too ~ I'd love to have it done but I'm just too scared of it going wrong. I wear my glasses 99% of the time and have disposable contact lens for the odd time I don't want to wear them.

I wear glasses, I tried contacts however my eyes and noise streamed constantly and seemed to reject them.

The reason I have not gone for the surgery is that I am worried that I will get my hopes up to be told I am not a suitable candidate.

Glad their is others in my situation. Well, I'm hoping to go pick out a new pair soon. Last time we went away i didnt have a spare pair (Only sunglasses) so if they snapped i would of been in lots of trouble!

Gonna make sure i got a spare this time!

We always laugh because we seem to take endless pairs of specs on holiday with us. Both DH and I wear glasses so we have the ones we wear, a spare pair each, prescription sunglasses, old prescription sunglasses to wear at the beach/pool. We need a suitcase just to carry them in! :rotfl2:

Lol :goodvibes

Gonna also try and find a hard case while Im browsing. That way I can slip them in my pocket on the rides. Nearly left without them on Rock n Rollercoaster it was so fast
