I've put this off for several days now as I kept deluding myself, but sadly I informed Linda today that I have to cancel going to DIS-Con.
Trying not to get too personal here, but I've been battling a recurring left ovarian mass for quite some time, had surgery to remove it 1 1/2 years ago, but alas it has returned with a vengeance, growing quite large and painful. I've been on hormones for a few weeks to see if it would shrink, as the surgeon was a little concerned that he would not be able to remove it laprascopically, and would instead have to do more invasive surgery, because this time the ovary will have to be removed also. Anyway, it has grown a little smaller, so hopefully the recovery period won't be too long, but I couldn't take a chance that I'd feel well enough to do DIS-Con, especially considering all the activities involved. I am majorely disappointed, but also feel a little guilty, as others have much worse problems than mine.
I'm sure you'll all have a wonderful time, and hopefully I'll be able to join you next year.
Hi everyone! I had my surgery yesterday and it went pretty well. I was really scared initially, as prior to taking me into the OR, my gyn doc introduced me to another surgeon who he asked to assist in the surgery, and he told me he was a gyn-oncologist. I almost fell on the floor! My doc said he jsut wanted to be sure of everything. Anyway, as it turns out, I have such severe endometriosis that it has caused my uterus to attach to my bowel, plus the endometrial tissue is everywhere, so in the near future I will need to have my uterus and left ovary removed, but they didn't do that yesterday. The doc said he wasn't prepared to find what he did, and there was too great a risk of perforating the bowel and then I would end up with a colostomy, so they only drained the cysts that were there, which would relieve some of the pain. So I only ended up with three small incisions. I'm not looking forward to more surgery, but if that's what I have to do then that's what I'll do. I'll just make sure it's done early enough that I can attend next year's DIS-Con. Thank you all for your good wishes, you are truly all good friends.
