What is the best/easiest way to back up your itunes library?

Back in 2008 I first backed up him the library I had at the time on CD's. Last year I bought an external hard drive and backed up my updated library and update the EHD every time I download new music.

After having my hard drive crash on me a few years ago, I now have an external hard drive to back it up on AND I also burn new purchases to DVDs.

Thanks everyone. I guess I was trying to find out if I had to use CD's or DVD's to do it. It's for my daughter and she tried to use a flash drive and it copied the music to the stick but then it wouldn't stay on my itunes when she tried to add it to mine. (not sure if I am making any sense) We both have PC's.

It's a 2 step process. Add music from stick to My Documents then add from there into ITunes. I've done it a few times when the system crashed.

I'll have her try that tomorrow...thanks so much!!!

when I first started using iTunes, I was backing them up with back up discs. Now that I have over 3,000 songs/movies/tv shows on my 160gb iPod Classic, I use an additional external hard drive, less clutter!

I'm thinking this is the direction we are going to go since we have 4 itunes libraries that should be backed up plus pictures. Those are what I care about most, music and pictures=memories :thumbsup2

I use an external drive also. I liked it when it was backed up on discs as it put all the playlists and album art back where it belonged, but 2 years ago it too 9 DVD's to back it up. No way I am doing that on a regular basis!

She has about 1000 songs, any idea if it will fit on 1 DVD or more?
