Just wanted to post a public service announcement
Really, if you have an itunes account, beware there are hackers who will access your account and charge up the payment method you have attached to your account. I just learned this the hard way
I noticed last night I received an email from Paypal stating someone had charged $2.58 through itunes. I figured it was my DD as she does use our itunes account. I did not even thing anything else about it until an hour or so ago. I heard my phone alert sound that I had an email so I checked it, there was another email from Paypal saying $7.70 was charged by itunes. Since none of us had been on the computer (only one of them has itunes loaded), I knew something was up.
When I logged into itunes there was another purchase that was just made for $44. What is funny is that all of these charges was for Norah Jones music, which we do not listen to. It appears this last charge was made right before we logged in. I immediately changed my password and changed my mode of payment to none. I then reported a problem via itunes on each song purchased (that took a while) and then filed a dispute through Paypal. However, after searching the internet about this, it appears neither of them will be of help. This seems to be a very widespread problem usually the hackers are buying gift cards via itunes, but they bought actual music on my account. I guess I will now have to go through my bank and file a fraud report; however, the charges have not been posted to my bank account yet.
I say all of this just to say, beware of your itunes account. It would be wise to go in and remove any linked payment accounts (credit/debit cards or paypal). I would also change my password frequently.
I hope I can get this resolved quickly, we are out over $50 at this point. I hope no one else is hacked
