Dear Relative,

I know it is the tought that counts, and I do appreciate the lovely gift from Bath and Body works for the 14th or 15th year in a row. I know that you love to shop there but I could not help but notice that I haven't requested this item on the Christmas list you have always solicited from me since 1998. It's just that...well...I don't need anymore. I'd tell you that, but after years and years of requiring these lists, I was so reprieved when we finally did away with this in 2007.

Now these lists--well, what was the deal with those anyway? I would provide you with the list, and I just kept getting Bath and Body works. You must think I really enjoy it. But we have a problem. I have a serious sensitivity to all synthetic floral scents. And the scents I can tolerate, I don't use all that much of. So in subsequent years, I had to put on my list my allergies so that you would be aware that I am sensitive to scents. It wasn't a request, but just a reminder that I can only tolerate certain scents. I wasn't asking for any more gels, lotions and fru fru, but you just wanted to make me happy. So I'm confused about these demands for lists.

Okay--not a big deal. You just want suggestions of what I might like. Okay. Not a problem.

Next year, I won't make any mention of Bath and Body Works. How thoughtful of you to buy me yet more Bath and Body Works lotion, gels and what not.

The next year, I opt to forgo list making. I think lists are silly. I don't like them. I just do it because you beg me for them. I think this time I'm off the hook. Nope--request after request for the list. Okay--here's the list. I feel like I am asking you to go grocery shopping, but here you go. And again, Bath and Body works shows up in the wrapper. I'm beginning to think you don't like lists either. Or maybe you just don't like MY lists.

Finally--HALLELUJAH...the extended family is getting way too big. No more lists. No more gift exchanges, except folks will still buy for kids and the parents will still buy for their grown children. But YAY! No more lists.

And just like clockwork, Bath and Body works shows up under the tree addressed to me.

To whom it may concern,

I know you love me. I know you are doing something nice and I truly do appreciate it. But I have so much Bath and Body Works that I am now planning to open my own shop. I know that you already bought me some more this year as it is sitting under my tree right now. I know those bottle shapes quite well. It was very sweet of you to think of me. Might I suggest that next year, consider buying them directly from me. I can have my choice of scents, I can offer you a family and friends discount and it will save you on shipping costs since it is already here. It will be a recycled Christmas. You'll be happy. I'll be happy. The planet will be happy. Everyone wins.

Thank you so much for the wonderful gift. :santa:

My poor old grandpa used to get Old Spice from every one of his grandkids :rotfl2: He made the mistake of saying how much he liked it and when you have a hard to shop for person on your list, you run with that.

Why not return it after Christmas? Even if you get a sale price, BB&B has stuff in all price ranges that I'm sure you can find something you like. :thumbsup2

Hmm - a little editing and I could send that to my MIL on behalf of my DH. She loves to shop there for him but the problem is that its like she is shopping for her own hubby and then gives it to DH. He doesn't wear perfumed body sprays or use shave gel (electric shaver for as long as I've known him). I would either return it to BBW (they're great about taking stuff back) or donate it all to a womens/homeless shelter. They'd probably love all of it and then it really would be a thought that counts.

I remember one Christmas when my grandmother got five bathrobes. One from each of her five daughters. She was very gracious and said she loved them all and would wear them all. It was actually pretty funny to watch my mom and aunts faces as she opened up one bathrobe after another. :rotfl:

I was going to suggest Women's shelter too

This is a great idea. I feel your pain--my SIL does the same thing. I don't bother to send her a list anymore because I know exactly what I'm getting--the same stuff I get every year. I finally last year got her to just give the kids cash. She was sending them really awful stuff, like a Barbie crown and wand for DD17. She sent DS a Batman belt with matching umbrella when he was 15. And those weren't gag gifts either--she really thought they'd like them.

I know why people buy those BBW gifts. It's because they can get them 3 for $10, or whatever it is. It costs less to buy several than to buy them separately, therefore everyone is going to get the same thing. Personally,I hate BBW stuff. It smells cheap and feels clammy & greasy. If someone wants to get me some hand lotion, just buy me Curel or the old fashioned Jergens.:thumbsup2

I will trade you my cheap dollar store candles for your BBW stuff. Be careful if you choose to burn them though. . .they catch on fire. :scared1:

Are any of those scents discontinued? You might be able to fetch more than your relative paid on eBay.
