There is a place to pick up and drop off towels at the pool.

At least there was a year ago.

:)

Thanks, LoveMickey, for the towel update. I was unaware of this. I did not mean to give wrong info.......I am happy to hear they are doing this now.:sunny:

Which of the Alligator buildings are smoking buildings? We already have our reservations for August and want to make sure we don't get a smoking building.

Also, are there several bus stops around the resort?

Thanks in advance!

Hi...we are going to Disney in May and are ready to pull all of our hair out deciding on a resort! It's definitely either POR or CBR. I would LOVE to stay at POFQ, but do not like the theme at all and don't think I'd enjoy it that much. Anyway, a few questions:

1. What is the best room to request for short walking distances to the pool/food/bus stops? We will have a 2 yr old and do not want a ton of walking, etc.

2. Should I request a 1st floor room because of stroller, etc. I'd hate to have to haul that thing up and down stairs all the time.

3. Are there crowds at POR pool, eating during May. I've read on the boards that it was a really crowded resort.

4. And is this a better resort for us with my young dd than CBR? Transportation wise too?

I am absolutely clueless and have been planning on EVERY resort in the last week or so. I LOVE the look of POR and the pool, etc, but can't decided between it and CBR, they are very close. :)

I have stayed at POR and CBR. We prefer CBR. If you would like more information on CBR I suggest you check out the CBR FAQ thread listed below.

Thanks for the reply. What was getting us for POR was the boat ride to DTD, we thought it may be more convenient than buses all the time. We are just concerned about walking a ton...lol....we had a trip in 2001 and by the end of 5 days we were both almost in tears... :hyper: At least I can laugh about it now...

We stayed at POR in October and the kids loved it. I would reccomend the 1st floor for the stroller and all the 2 year old luggage!

The crowds were not bad then, even though the parks were busy. Food court was fast when ever we were there.

Going back in April to try the french quarter.

Enjoy.

I'd definately recommend a 1st floor room if you have a stroller and lots of gear. Sometimes its a walk to the car. We like taking the boat to DTD. its nice. The foodcourt at POR is my favorite. The water wheel is interesting for the kids to watch, and its carpeted,so its not as loud. I was never impressed w/the food court at FQ. My best friend loves CBR. Her kids love the pool there. I hear its very spread out, tho,,but so is POR. We're staying there again in May for the 3rd time. I like the atmosphere, and we like going on walks along the paths and stuff.

In the guide book it mentioned POR has a travel time of 40-60 minutes to some parks, including the walk to the bus. Is this true and did it damper your enthusiasm...because I will be traveling with a 10 year old. Also, are the other moderate hotels shorter in travel times?

I only used Disney transportation from POR one day, but I did not have a problem. I'm sure that depending on how long you have to wait for a bus it very well could take up to an hour, but as long as you know what to expect I don't think it shoudl dampen your enthusiasm at all! Have fun!

The only room I can get there is just a standard room. Are the furthest rooms REALLY far to walk? And they said I could request, but I wonder how likely it is that I'll get my request in May?

It was my experience that nothing was really that far a walk, except walking one end of the resort to the other. And there's no need to do that unless you really want to (I did!). The lobby/food court and Old Man Island are in the middle of the resort. My room was a standard room in Parterre Place and I couldn't have been happier with it. We were a bit far from Old Man Island, but I don't have kids, so I really didn't care. My walk over to the lobby/food court was under five minutes and very pleasant!

Buy Birnbaums official guide to Disney! It is the best thing out there! It gives tips, crowd patterns, itineraries, budgeting, prices, and information on every single restaurant, ride, store, anything! in Disney! It is a great investment with coupons in the back. I buy it every year. I'm looking to buy the Birnbaums book traveling without kids.

So I am all booked with my new annual pass and AP code. Got a good rate, we requested a King and they said in order to get a king you have to upgrade to a "varied view" room. They gave me my choices and I picked "Lake View" yeah....cause I really wanted the parking lot- LOL!

Question- The Unofficial says specify a "River View" which is different from a "water view" so my question is, what is a "Lake View"? Should I call back and ask? Or I could call the resort directly.....

This is for the French Quarter.....

Just back last night. Had a wonderful time. Just to let anyone know they are renovating at POR. Acardian building was closed. They only thing we noticed one day at the quiet pool they were using some type of saw, loud but not to intrusive.

That was a question that I had. For people that have just returned...which buildings look like they are the first to be shut down? A website I was just looking at said they plan for the entire renovation to take 2 years! I just want to have all my options in front of me before I call CRO.

just to mention that this FAQ thread is for Riverside only. There's now a separate French Quarter FAQ thread.

I have a question! We are going to Port Orleans Riverside for the first time in June. We want to utilize the food courts at the Riverside and French Quarter. If we buy a refillable mug at the Riverside, can we use it at the French Quarter food court too? I know you can only use mugs at the resort you buy them at, but I figured since they are sorta one resort now, we may be able to do that. If not, that is okay. I just want to know ahead of time. Thanks in advance!

You can use refillable mugs at "sister resorts." POFQ and POR are considered sister resorts. Last time I noticed they had the same Port Orleans mugs for both places, anyway.

The All-Stars is the only other resort group where this is permitted.
