:wave2: and welcome to the DIS!! I believe anyone can do this not just DISers. I'm going to shamelessly advertise my 10th anniversary as well as the fact that I'm a DISer. Some people use lights, pics of fav. characters, streamers, posters, you name it. If it will fit in a window or on a door - you can do it!!! Check out your local 'dollar store' or Walmart for cheaper Disney items and get creative. There is a DIScreative board here with all kinds of great ideas from clothes to Mousekeeping envelopes. Check it out.

LOL! Go for it and Happy Anniversary!:cheer2:

By the way, I'm from the Caribbean so no Walmart here. Don't I wish!!

Only 27 days until we feel the magic! This will be our first trip decorating the window, so I'm really feeling the pressure; I'd worry that my DH would think I was nuts when he sees me putting them up, but he already knows I've lost it:rotfl2: It seems I'm in pretty good company here, though... I've taken the drastic step to avoid post trip depression by booking our next trip now:cool1:

:wave2: OK so we took our first trip ever in Jan for my DH birthday and fell in love  with Disney
We really shouldn't but :rolleyes1 I am trying to plan for Oct now that my sister cancelled her wedding ( I know I know I am taking advantage of her situation but geesh)

So looking around, I am VERY intrigued with the POR site and everything that is being said.
We stayed at CBR the first time and really like it although the weather was SOOO cold we had to buy hats and mittens and we are from MICHIGAN for goodness sake.

Will I love the POR? it seems like a totally different experience and we didn't make it to DTD so that would be a great add.

Trying to stay at least 5 days this time with one day reserved for no parks but just hanging

October weather??? Will we have nice enough weather to swim and enjoy the pools? We didn't get do that the first time.

thanks all

I cannot believe it's less than 20 days until I leave home to head to Disney!!!!!

You should be able to enjoy the resort and pools in October. As for liking the resort, we haven't stayed there yet, but we have stayed at CBR. I would imagine you would like POR as well. We also liked CBR and like you that is where we stayed on our first trip! Sorry about your Sisters wedding, but hope you have a great stay.

Ok - my first post

We are arriving at POR on Sept 6 for our honeymoon.

What are the lime green mickeys at Home Depot? Are these the paint chips for Behr Paint? That is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that Home Depot might have Disney-related. :confused3

I want to get in on the fun and am getting really excited about our trip. :)

My DH to be has never been to DW before so this is going to be a treat for him. I can't wait! :yay:

I too will be staying at POR for the first time after staying at CBR last year.

It is unfortunate that this thread doesn't have a cheerleader like the CBR one does. You know, someone who loves the POR, stays there regularly, takes photos, and answers most all of the questions in this thread and really takes care of the thread. That lack of encouragement has me also wondering if I will love POR as much as CBR.

My gut instinct is that I will not, so I am going in with a bit lower expectations so that I can be really wowed and impressed. :) I don't know when I'll be able to afford a moderate again so I really want to try a different resort. As much as I loved CBR, I'm ready for an adventure!

I too have visited WDW during a rare cold spell. That was kind of miserable! It was January or February. Historically October weather can be downright hot, so I think you will get to use the pool. I also think you'll get to use your rain ponchos a lot! It rained almost every day we were there last October.

So, I really doubt there would be a Disney resort I would not enjoy, so consider your stay at POR a new adventure and be sure to let us know how you like it!

yes if you go to the paint section you will see the small area for disney themed paint and there you will find the "alien green" colored paint samples. they are on squares but have the mickey shaped lime green heads.

also disney related there are house keys :) my store didnt have that many, but they had tinker belle so thats all that mattered to me :tink: . they also had the princesses, cars, mickey/donald/goofy.

This is going to be our 3rd year in a row staying at POR and we love it! Some people look at the size as a negative, but we look at it as a positive because everyone is more spread out and you are not on top of each other. I have posted a link of my pictures from the last 2 years in post #2345 in this thread.

Is there live music at POR or is it at FQ? Hoping to check it out this Wed night after we check in. thanks

For those of you who haven't stayed at POR before you'll love it. This will be my 4th trip and I can't bring myself to stay anywhere else. Can't wait to check in and take the boat to DTD for a hot fudge sundae. I love the 2 modes of transportation, the quiet pools, 2 separate sinks, make your own pasta bowl, eating my breakfast ouside on the porch over looking the water. I could go on and on.

Oh gosh! POR does have a cheerleader! Check out portorleans.org. Andre Willey is the ultimate POR/POFQ cheerleader! And if you like lush greenery and picturesque fountains, and some truly lovely landscaping you will love it. The food court is very good with a nice selection and a fairly high rating on allears.net. It has a sister resort in POFQ, and you can use the facilities at each resort.

I was there last April and absolutely loved the resort and the atmosphere. :)

I don't know about October weather, but the weather in April was warm enough for a fellow Michigander to swim in! POR is more picturesque than the best state park around. The landscaping is lush and green and it is a real treat to take a walk around the grounds at night to see all of the beautiful fountains in the Mansions section. The food options are great, and with the boat to DTD you have all of the shopping and other restaurants to choose from. I hope you enjoy your trip!

We were in WDW in October 2003 and the weather was great. Only rained one day and we went to Blizzard Beach and I don't remember being cold or anyone complaining. We thought it was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. We were there in Feb. 2005 and it was downright chilly on some days. That's why we booked for October this year, so that we could enjoy the pools and water parks too. 70 days until POR!:yay:

True, that is a great sight! I read through it quite a bit before finally booking my room at POR. She does a great job with that site.

I was just commenting that this thread doesn't really have a caretaker, but I guess if we just keep pointing people to that website they'll find out all they need to know.

YEAH MICHIGAN
our Jan 08 trip was my DD's first trip to FLA and she still doesn't realize that its the sunshine state LOL she figured its like Micigan in fall :sad2:

I am obsessing about going back now and Oct seems like a great time. She may miss a few days of school but think of what she will learn :rotfl:

So now I ask, Mansions or the other housing arrangements? We don't mind a bit of exercise but like to be in the middle of things too. Can you bullet the pros and cons between the lodging arrangements??

thanks a MILLION

:)

I do "cheerlead" a bit here, but to be honest the resort has so many fans who cheerlead it for themselves, that I rarely need to. I'm going to do a revamp on the FAQ section here soon, and also for French Quarter.

You'll have a great time - and swimming is should be fine (in fact almost compulsory) in October.

That's a tough one and goes to personal preferrences for decor.

I like the mansions on the outside. They are gorgeous. But the room decor inside leaves me cold, so I've asked for a room in Aligator Bayou. I know we may not get one, and that's fine. I do like the look of the furniture and stuff in the AB rooms better.

I'm trying to go with the flow. LOL.

Thank you for reply, Teddygurl28!

OK - here is another newbie question, if you don't mind.

Do you use just regular scotch tape to tape the lime green mickeys and other items to the window? or do you need to use some kind of special tape of adhesive? I can hear my mother's voice yelling at me as a kid to not stick anything to my bedroom windows because she wouldn't be able to get it off.

And to other posters from Michigan, YEAH, for the Mitten State!

it will actually be my first time window decorating, i plan to go to the dollar store and get the window suction things and just poke a small hole on the top of the mickey head and dangle it that way, this way when i go to leave i wont have to peel any tape or adheasive off. someone with more experience may be able to come along and help out with this answer though
