November miles were 107.37. Giving serious thought to my sping races - might do a couple marathons a week apart. If I train properly for the first, I could actually race it (more or less), and then simply finish the second one a week later.

The first one is 20 weeks away, so I actually have plenty of time to get ready. Time to start bumping up my long runs again anyway, since my weekly average has been really slack since August or so.

Rich Wow...I couldn't ever consider doing that. I hope it works out for you. Which races are they, BTW?

135 miles for me. Getting in a weekly LR of 10-11 miles just to keep it going. Soon I get to run at Disney!---run, not race. Somewhere around the BW.

Maura

Only 55 miles for November. I really took the month easy.
I did run a 5k and got 2nd overall. Of course the kid who should have won the race missed the last turn and kept running. Not exactly the best organized race. Still cool to get a top 3 spot.

I got 43 miles in November...pretty good considering I spent most of the month sick! First I had strep throat, then a sinus infection and this last weekend the whole family had the stomach flu! I did my first 10K on Thanksgiving...we had some confusion there as well! The turn for th 5k was not very well marked and the people who were standing there 'directing' people were not doing their job and the first 15 or so people in the 5k ended up running the 10k!

Maura-I saw your post on the Princess 1/2 board and wanted to give my vote to doing the Princess (it has nothing to do with the fact that I will be doing it...)!

Jason-Great job in your 5k!

Illinois Marathon (in Champaign-Urbana - I've run it since its inception in 2009, and kind of want to keep the streak going. The second one would be the inaugural Kalamazoo marathon, which is only 30 minutes from me.

I'm envious of your getting to run at Disney. Looks like we won't get there again until about this time next year.

Good morning Goofs and happy December! Its a chilly 39 here in sunny FL this morning and I am not happy about it! The weather man says its suppose to be even colder next week. Repeat of marathon weekend? I sure hope not.

Maura, I am off on Tuesday so I won't get to see you but hope you have a great trip and stay warm!

Congrats to everyone for getting out there and getting in your miles. Sorry I lost the totals a few threads back so I am not deducting anymore (and lots of those who signed up are no longer posting) but keep posting to help my motivation!

Hey Goofs.
I got in 59.22 miles in November. (Did a 5K with the family on Thanksgiving so I added in an extra 5K in my totals.)
I should have ran more, but really two weeks got messed up between my car wreck and then getting sick.
Both my daughter and I are feeling much better. Chests are no longer sore from the seatbelts, but my foot is still a tad questionable. I ice it after every run now.
Despite my low totals last month, I did have my biggest week to date. I got in 35.70 miles this week. I did push my 22 miler forward to last Sunday. I managed a 13:09 pace, but it was extremely hard. Way harder than the 20 miler I did a month before. I know between my program getting delayed, the wreck, my sore chest and foot and the nasty cold, it could have been alot worse! Luckily, the run was just a struggle cause I woke up the next day feeling great! I walked around the neighborhood the next morning and as always I think that and the ice bath are the key for me.
Now I just have one more really long run before the full! I think we'll try for 24 miles. I also had to buy new shoes. They really changed my model so I opted for a pair of Nikes instead. I'm still not sure about them. They feel very different, but were the only pair that didn't squeeze my little toes.
I hope everyone is doing well. This time of year is always so busy. Hugs to all of you!

Suzanne I am counting on you to make the weather be AT LEAST in the mid-60's by the time we get there. :)

Shan Congrats on the 22--even if it was a struggle. I hear you about the shoes. I switched from Saucony Rides to Nike Vomero 5+--needed the wide toe box.

Ashleigh Sounds like you used up your sickness quota for thi year and next! So here's hoping you have healthy happy holidays.

Jason Congrats on 2nd place. That is a great result. Any extra bling or swag? I am still waiting to get my age group award for the marathon. They say they're "at the engravers" in some other part of the state. Oh well, maybe it will come by Christmas.

Decided to do a 5k tomorrow with a friend. It's a jingle bell run. A little annoyed in that they wouldn't give me a T shirt even though it is not "race day". Will try to ask after the race to get one.

97 miles for me last month.

After the Wine & Dine half, I started from scratch with my miles to test out the run/walk/run method. So far so good, although I struggled a bit at first with having the patience to walk for a minute. And, as usual, my pacing is pretty much nonexistent. It hasn't been an issue so much for my shorter distances, but I really need to work on it during my longer runs. I don't know if this method will end up making a difference on my time, but I will say that I have not had to wear my knee brace at all since I started!

We got our first accumulated snow of the season overnight, so it looks like I'll be on the treadmill for a while. I don't know how I used to run almost exclusively on the treadmill. I pretty much can't stand it now!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Well, its officially official...I registered for the Princess 1/2 today! :cool1: Everything else has been planned for a while and now this last piece is in place! We are staying at Bay Lake Towers thanks to my in-laws and their DVC points. And after the race we are eating with the Princesses in Norway for dinner! It is now less than 3 months away...hopefully I can stay healthy and get my mileage up!

Jason - Great job on your 5K and placing!

Ashleigh - Whoa, tough month for you health-wise. I'm glad you got better and were able to run your first 10K. Great job. Congrats on registering for the Princess Half.

Shan - You are a real trooper for getting back out there so quickly after your accident and being sick. Take care!

Nicky - I do run/walk (4:1) on all my races longer than 10K. I usually run 5Ks and take 1-2 walk breaks on 10Ks. Doing run/walk has helped my time a lot, mainly because I have so much energy left for the later miles and my 4-minute runs are a lot faster than I can normally sustain. The first time I tried 4:1 during a half, I PR'd by about 4 minutes.

AFM, I had 58.4 miles in November. It was my least mileage for a month as far back as I can remember. This was mostly due to my work schedule being so crazy I wasn't able to get to my spin classes where I'd rack up a ton of miles each week. I had to go off times and do other things on my XT days. I also had only one race. I'm feeling really good health-wise though so I'm happy.

I'm doing a Jingle Bell Run 5K tomorrow. I don't know the course yet but I suspect it will be a trail run. It's been raining here so much that I think I will be a muddy mess after it's done! I've got two more short races next Sunday but that's it for the month.

Everyone stay healthy and enjoy this wonderful time of year!

I ran a Jingle Bell 5K run yesterday. The same folks organized it who organized our Monster Dash 5K on Halloween. I felt out of place as I was one of the few people who didn't dress up for that race. The flyer for this race asked that we dress up too. I don't really have any Christmas costumes but I did show up in the closest thing I have which is my Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party shirt from 2006. I wanted to go pick up a Santa hat on the way but ran out of time. I'm glad I didn't now as I was the only person (and I mean ONLY) that had on anything holiday-related. Even the volunteers and organizers just had street clothes on. I just can't win.

It ended up being a partial trail, maybe 1/3 of it, and it was pretty muddy. It was a very hilly course and pretty fun. I felt lousy during the entire race though. It had an 11am start and I made the mistake of forgoing my usual prerace breakfast and instead had our big Sunday breakfast of eggs, ham, and pancakes. I also had Taco Bell for dinner the night before followed by two cups of brandy and eggnog. Tis the season, right? I don't recall reading this menu in any of my training books and there is a reason. I felt like I ran with a brick in my Spibelt.

I wasn't planning on taking any walk breaks but some of the hills were stairs and there was no way I could have run up those with the way I felt. There was a guy who I passed early on in the race and he passed me going up the stairs. I tried for a while to catch up with him but every time I did, we came to another hill and I got further behind. I finally caught up with him again with about .25 to go. I made my move and passed him and sprinted to the finish. It was a good feeling to beat him since I felt like everything else beat me up that morning.

Nicky Glad to hear the run/walk is helping with your knee problems. I'm with you on the pacing thing. Wouldn't be able to train without my Garmin. And my TM tolerance is likewise declining. I can do 5-6 max and that requires mental focus. I keep telling myself it's good mind training.

Ashleigh Congrats for signing up. If I stumble across a killer cheap airfare and equally cheap hotel, I still might consider doing Princess. Since it hasn't sold out yet, I guess I still have time.

Steve WTG for toughing out your race. Stomachs can really impact how races go, can't they? And glad you could turn it on at thend and beat that guy.

I did a 5k last Saturday-- a local Jingle Bell run for arthritis foundation. The good: Decent course--a little roll here and there, went thru a park and onto a local parkway, finishing at a horse race track. Always nice to have an indoor place to wait for these cold weather races. And people in costumes make it fun. The not-so-good: Even though I registered day before, they wouldn't give me a shirt then (I did snag one after the race, although not in my size), the race was chip timed, but no start mat--and with 1000 runners it would have taken at least 10 seconds or so to get everyone across, so the times are somewhat suspect (and there were age group awards).

I ran without a watch or garmin and decided to go fast to see what I could do. So mile 1-fast, mile 2-slower, mile 3 to finish--ok, with little sprint at end (someone came up behind me and I didn't want to let them pass!) Finished in 23:18, which is a PR for me.

Had a little soup after (small sample of tortilla soup from Qdoba). rolls, cocoa, coffee.

Trying to start painting the kitchen this week--at least the ceiling beofer heading off to a COLD WDW.

Hello Goofs! Hope everyone is staying warm! Its a cold 40 degrees out right now and suppose to be in the mid 20's (not including the wind chill) at the bus stop in the morning. I thought I was still in Florida. I hate the cold and would rather have it 90 degrees each day so right now I am a popsicle.

Did a 5K on Saturday morning, it was a chilly 42 at the start. I am 30 seconds away from an under 40 minute 5K. That has been a big goal for me and I am this close! There was also a 1/2 marathon that started 20 minutes before the 5K using the same start line. For whatever reasons, after the 1/2 marathoners went, they pulled up the starting mats for the chips so the 5Kers only got a gun time. Love my garmin for this reason. I started it as I went under the "start" banner, it took almost a full minute to cross the banner line.

Anyone coming for marathon weekend in January? I am only doing the 5K this year but am praying for no snow flurries this time!!

I'll be going Goofy (my first time), DH will be running the half (on his 40th birthday), DS is doing the 800-meter kids race, and DD is doing the Mickey Mile. I feel like we are such a jock family and a far cry from the couch potatoes we'd been 3 short years ago! I wish I see everyone, but we'll have my in-laws along for the ride, so I don't think I'll be able to escape to go to any of the meets.

I'll be there too, Suzanne! Third try for the Goofy! I am running the half with my 14 year old niece. This is her first event and I am so proud of her. She has lost 80 pounds this year and this was a really fun way to keep her motivated.

ASM- I am still running but not keeping track of my miles. My running group with the homeless is still going strong. We actually did a local 5K supporting battered women.

Good to see you Joanne!

I did 10 in the snow this morning, before it got too bad. It was rather pleasant, actually. Not fast, but not bad.

Tomorrow I head to Disney! May have an extra guest since my niece got stranded in South Carolina trying to head home to MA. They are all going to Disney week after next, so she may just drive down and spend this week with us.

Keep it moving, Goofs!

Maura

Good to see you Joanne!

Maura, hope you are bringing your winter wear, its suppose to be in the mid 20's (16 with the wind chill) in the morning. Hoping for a warm up to 70 this weekend!

Thinking about my first non Disney 1/2 marathon on January 23rd. I am scared.

Good luck, Suzanne. I hope your non-Disney half is as magical as possible. I just did my first non-Disney half last month, and it was bizarre. Only 88 participants!

Hi Joanne. It's great to "see" you here. Congratulations to your niece. That is terrific! Glad to hear your running group is still going strong.

Congrats on your PR, Maura! I hope you stay warm at Disney.

AFM, I did my longest long runs this weekend: 20 miles on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. We were really conservative with our pace and our intervals, and other than some slight soreness I feel pretty good, all things considered. Just the confidence boost I needed for Goofy! :cheer2:
