It's that time again! Time for the fair!

What are ZEPPOLIES??

We don't go to the Texas State Fair much anymore, it's a big waste of money IMO now. Admission is outrageous, food is outrageous, there is very little to do anymore, and rides are beyond outrageous. Not to mention PARKING costs and the bad part of town that it's in (I used to work there, so it doesn't necessarily scare me, it's just a pain to get into). BIG hassle.

Years ago, I remember going as a family and there was lots of free exhibits and stuff to go to... not anymore... we went about 2 years ago and said we'd never go again.

Though I LOVE fair food, I can go to the dinky Waco fair and get it much cheaper, or to WDW!!! I just can't stomach paying those prices!!

We usually go to the Texas fair on the days when you can bring some can or something to get in half price and that helps a lot. What kills me is the carnival because DS loves it so much. I limit him to a certain amount but it goes fast!

The fair is a blatant rip off but I love the music and parade and luckily those are still free. Plus I have to have my yearly corn dog. :)

Ah yes, we never miss the Minnesota STate Fair! Well, I DID miss it last year, because I was sick, but I'll be there with bells on a week from today! Meeting an old college friend, and you can bet we will be doing all the animal barns and the horticulture building as well as the creative activities and sampling a few things at the food building! I love the milk shakes at the dairy building, and lvoe to watch them carve the princess in butter!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Our fair started this past Sunday. Traffic in the little town where the fair is held is bad enough, when it is time for the fair or the races at Pocono Raceway it becomes horroedus, so everyone who lives there tends to hate fair time.

Diane will you be out with the dogs this year?

I don't go to any of our county fairs, the State Fair is the one to go to. No comparison. The food booths are all really nice, everything is very clean.

We had a great time at the fair yesterday. :)
We had fried pork tenderloin sandwiches (OMG! They were sooo good!!), meatballs on a stick, fried mozzerella on a stick, krazy kones, icees, frozen chocolate cheesecake on a stick, frozen snickers, and steak on a stick. :)

Fried dough balls in a bag with confectionary sugar, all shook up. Best when eaten fresh and hot! Yum!

We don't usually let the kids ride many rides at the fair we are headed to on Saturday, this summer we did both Hersheypark, Dorney Park and also the smaller county fairs that are pay-one-price-rides-included. This is one we go to for the shows, animals, and old fashioned stuff.

One of the "local" fairs was at the end of July. The other one will be the end of September or the beginning of October-not sure yet. I LOVE fried dough. Love seeing the equestrian competitions and the quilts that are on display. But the food at the fair is the best part. Not to mention the smell of the fair-woodsmoke, fried food, cotton candy, popcorn, and who knows what else rolled into one. The local fair is a BIG hangout for teens, as long as it doesn't interfere with the school football schedule:p

We love our state fair! (But we hate our county one, it's nothing but a big carnival that is overflowing with drunks, not a 'family' thing at all)

We went to the fair yesterday. It was really fun and we spent a fortune on junk food, lol. I have a weakness for 'fair foods' so it's a good thing it's only once a year, lol.

Our state fair has a little bit of everything and I always have to laugh because we (dh and I) go to the fair and never see our dd who is usually there at the same time with friends. We are looking at displays (fruits, vegtables, crafts, art), everything for sale in the expo center, watching shows and demonstrations and we also always go see the competitons for showing the sheep (if we are there on the right days) and watch the border collies in action. Our dd spends her time at the fairway playing games, riding the rides, she usually goes on a day that there is a concert she wants to see (this year she went to see Switchfoot). It's a fun time for all of us.

Here's a pic of Ashli and friends that went together to the Switchfoot concert. Ashli is the girl on the end at the right.

The NC State Fair is in October...and I can hardly wait! I love the rides, something about knowing that there's probably missing parts and it could be the very last thing you ever do...such a thrill.

And the food? I can pack away more roasted ears of corn dipped in butter than most people twice my weight. I'm not sure if that's something be proud of or not......:scratchin

I go to a local fair that is a bit south east of me. They have tons of Amish style food. Lots of take home things like jelly and honey, and apple dumplings! I can't wait to go this year!:D

I have a hard time finding fairs with roller coasters. The usually have spin 'n puke rides. If there is a coaster, it's usually a Dragon Wagon and they won't let me near it. :(

DH and I both love going to the fairs! I enter things that I have crocheted in 4 different fairs each year. And we have our favorite foods at each fair.

We went to the Warren County fair a couple weeks ago. I entered 18 crocheted items and received 16 ribbons. We love the barbequed chicken there.

This week is the Crawford county fair where Brad Paisley entertained us on Sunday evening. 18 crocheted items - 14 ribbons. Nick's Sausage is awesome at this fair! And the butter and garlic fries! Wow! I bought something new this year, a jar of Candied Applesauce. It's chunky applesauce that has a cinnamon candy flavor. It's great! We went to the bake sale auction and got an Elderberry pie too. Noticed something else new but didn't try it....deep fried Twinkies in strawberry sauce.

We go to the Great Stoneboro Fair next. And Nicks sausage is there too. Really enjoy the demolition derby on friday night.

Sept. 4th will start the Spartansburg fair. Looking forward to Beef on Wick and Banana Creme Pie. DH would rather have the fish sub. I'll enter crocheted items here too.

Then we finish up with the Albion Area fair. Best barbequed chicken ever! Again I enter here too.

Glad DH likes going to the fairs as much as I do. After we retire, we hope to travel to more of them across the country.

I go to the state fair here every year to look at all the quilts and get inspired. This picture is from lthe WV state fair Aug 16th, it was my son's favorite part of the day!!

WOW, princessariel, that's ALOT of ribbons!!!!!!! I am lucky if I get one or two photographs together to enter for judging each year!

This year I wanted to enter a quilt....but I never got it finished! :(

I'm another one up for the Great Minnesota Get Together!

I can't wait! The milk, cookies, french fries, cheese curds (they just SOUND healthy!), and everything!

I love the animals...my favorites, though, are always the Budweiser Clydesdales... So beautiful.

Maybe I'll catch some DISers at the Fair! Have fun, everybody!

Mass. DISers: Do we even HAVE a state fair?

I guess the Big E counts but isn't that for all of New England?
