Glad you didn't get flooded Obi, but it must be horrible for your neighbours who did.

Yes, we have been out all afternoon trying to help them get cleaned up. complete mess.
They have no response yet from the insureres, hardly surprising I know with the amount of calls today i would imagine, but they cannot move forward until the insurance co give them permission.

They are coming round here later to stop.

Well lets hope the worst of the rain is over and the waters have a chance to receed. Did you build the defences yourself

After the once in a hundred, we laiased with the Environment Agency to get permission to put in the balancing ponds and flood plain, though the balancing ponds have been a total waste of time. Filled up so quickly they wre no use slowing down the amount of water (Though with smaller rises they do work)
We had help from the Flood prevention officer at the council as to what was acceptable, then it took about three years to be sorted finally.

Friend of my moms has just phone who lives in Kidderminster about 15 mins from us, saying shes put sand bags out as the severn has burst near her....such a shame for everyone!

DH is a Civil Engineer and deals with the E.A on a regular basis so he appreciates the problems you had getting it sorted. At least it seems to have worked for you.

Just hope your neighbours can get their homes and claims sorted quickly.
