It's Pop Warner Week....

Does anyone know their dates for 2008 yet?

It's listed somewhere on the site and it was confirmed by Pop Warner. The dates begin, i believe, from 11/30/08 to 12/6/08 or whatever that first week is. The week starts with the last day of november.

The Pop Warner people are usually gone by Sunday, but guess what?! THEY'RE STILL HERE!!!!! Tons of them everywhere.

Thanks! I didn't easily find the dates on their website so I thought I would ask here. It sounds like they will just be leaving as we arrive for our Honeymoon.

I just read that Pop will be a week later in '08 12-6 to 12-13 make sure you are staying in a non participating resort for your honeymoon!

Good reason for me to go stay at the GF...

I just posted this over on the Community Board - some interesting info from our local Orlando news station (cfnews13) ;) :

A group of young athletes was kicked out of Walt Disney World in the middle of the night Saturday.

Disney made the decision to kick out three teams participating in the Pop Warner Superbowl competition --- two from Hawaii and one from Baltimore --- because of a fight between some of their athletes.

According to Disney, it is written into their policy for group packages that everyone will be forced to leave if even one member of the party is involved in a violent act on property.

However, parents said the way they were treated just wasn't right.

"They could have handled it so much better, you know? They really could have. They could have said look you know what? Fine, you guys have to leave in the morning. Then our babies. We have one year old, two year old, three year olds, that we had to just jerk out of bed and they were just crying. You know it was just a bad scene. It was really a bad scene," said Labryanna Kubo, a parent traveling with the Hawaii team.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident.

I'm at Allstar Music right now--came in on 12/8--lots of teens here--not to noisy now--a bit more crowded today than usual--I think some schools are doing senior trips--hopefully it will be quieter tommorow--gotta get some sleep

We've never stayed at an All-Star resort so this was our first time. We only spent one night and continued on to AKL for 6 nights (discount wasn't available for stay on 12/8/07 at AKL). There were alot of kids, but seemed to be centrally located to the ASMu and ***. It was quite pleasant compared to ASMo.

The resort was beautiful and the layout was quite nice at ASMo. The only problems for us was the smaller beds. DD3 sleeps with us and we're used to the queen sized beds at AKL, which is the only Deluxe we've ever stayed at. This may have been one of our last nights at a Value unless we go by ourselves without other family members and can get a king sized bed or anything larger than a double.

when i was back in highschool, my team went to PW (i was on a select squad) once and even though we stayed at CSR (my coach insisted on not staying at a value) it was still crazy. we always did nationals in jan at disney and decided to give PW a try that year and we were told we were never going back to PW again!
there were so many other squads trying to start fights, mess with our stuff (uniforms, pompoms, makeup, etc...) and the other coaches and shaporons didn't seem to care!
now that i'm older and i'm a cm at disney, i see the same things- i can't say where i work, but lets just say that i perform all the time and i get so many rude remarks, nasty looks, etc... just because i chose a dance major in college and came back at disney to improve my portfolio- i've gotten so many "wow, you're working here, so you must not be good enough to do anything better with your life."
it's rediculous! i chose to come here and make people happy for a few years before going somewhere else!
the cms that work here get the absolute worse treatment from PW:mad:

I just got back from French Quarter. When I checked in, I was told that they were putting the Pop Warner kids in buildings 5, 6, and 7 to keep them away from the other guests. I was in building 1, and I never heard them at all while in my room.

There was only 1 bad incident, and it was on a bus. The girls were cheering quite loudly (it actually was hurting my ears). The bus driver pulled off the road and told everyone that there will be no cheering on the bus. At that point A MOTHER rudely told him that it wasn't fair (and also some things that I won't repeat here). They stopped cheering, but continued to tell off the driver. After we got to our destination, I told the driver that he didn't deserve to be treated that way. He asked me for my room number and name, just in case the mother filed a complaint against him.

I didn't see many other problems - and am happy to report that the kids were quite good in the food court in the morning (probably because they were still half asleep!)

Kids being piss ants, that's not shocking. But adults/parents telling off the driver for putting an end to screaming on the bus? I can't even find the words. It's fortunate for that woman that I was not on the bus.

How pathetic is that? And then people wonder why others complain about the Pop Warner/Cheerleading groups.. If the parents and chaperones are that rude and disrespectful it only stands to reason that the kids are going to take their cue from them..

I am so thrilled that Disney finally took some concrete action in regards to this nonsense.. I think I'll write them a letter and compliment them on booting the troublemakers..:thumbsup2

Ugh! Thanks. We'll be at a DVC Resort thankfully, but I don't want to run into groups in the parks. I'm spoiled and like it when there are not many groups there. ;)

We just got back from 2 nts. at POR (12/6 & 7) before checking into WL 12/8. Let me preface my comments by saying this is a generalization, while I'm sure there were plenty of well behaved cheerlearders attending this event, we were subjected to many less than well behaved. On our first night at POR, Acadian bldg., we were awakened on two different occasions in the same night, once as kids ran the room walkways and up and down the steps, then again very loud screaming from the quiet pool, all of which took place close to midnight. We contacted the front desk, but you're not really speaking to the front desk, and the reply we got from the cm was that "they're just cheerleaders being cheerleaders." Sorry, that's not an excuse, so upon the second incident we contacted them again and demanded something be done. We weren't alone in our complaints as I witnessed a mother and daughter who were attendants of the event, complaining in person to the front desk the next morning. I was under the misconception that they were only staying at the value resorts, however, there were many at the moderates as well. We won't be returning to Disney during that event again. Maybe not directly related, the parks were very noticeably more crowded for this time of year than in years past.

How incredibly frustrating. I just wrote Disney a letter regarding this issue, because I resent having to change our vacation dates as a result of "Disney's refusal to do anything worthwhile" about the problems that Pop Warner brings. "While I understand that Disney does not want to lose the significant business that Pop Warner brings, it is sad that Disney apparently is willing to snub and ignore respectful and considerate guests in order to accommodate disruptive, disrespectful, and aggressive guests."

I would really like to find out for sure when the '8 PW will be. My DH and I were planning on Dec 6-13 for a nice adult trip and staying at POFQ. Where can I find out the 'set in stone' dates for this? A romantic adult trip will not be fun with cheerleaders gone wild! Thanks for your help on this.

Pop Warner is always the first week in December, we learned this the hard way!! :sad2: The good thing is that this drove my husband to finally take the DVC tour and we did become members. FYI, we stayed at POR. They completely took over the resort. You could not get near the pool or hot tub! I think that guests who are not part of this group should be told ahead of time about this by the resort so they can make plans to deal with it (or not!!!) My suggestion to Disney is to build a resort next the WWoS to house this group!

we were at PO French Quarter Dec 1st - Dec 6th. We were in building 3. We had no problems whatsoever with the cheerleading groups. They were at POFQ, we saw many in the mornings going to competitions and we saw some at the food court in the evenings and twice had groups on the bus with us during the day. All the groups we encountered were well behaved and well chaperoned. Our building was very quiet at night, and there were several rooms of cheerleaders on the opposite side of the building as us. I do think the parks were a little more crowded than usual because of the Pop Warner groups though. But again, we saw no problems at the parks or at our resort. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at POFQ during Pop Warner week again.

I know how you feel--I am taking my 6 year old down there from the 6th through the 14th--and we're staying at Pop! :sad2:

Oh well--I can hope that they'll all be gone by the 8th. I'm also worried, b/c there are so many people saying how crowded it was this year--I thought we'd be missing the crowds by going during this time. I'll be crossing my fingers!

Just goes to show how some people think they have the right to do whatever they please with regard to others around them. Unbelievable!
