Leave now if you do not want to see a 50 year old women cry like a 3 year old.

MY FREAKIN' WASHER MACHINE JUST BROKE. I came home from work put a load of jeans in and the thing just started wheezing then died. You ever wring out wet jeans? not pretty.

Sorry.

So far this year I have:
replaced my roof.
replaced my dryer
replaced my dishwasher.
replaced my air conditioner.

I keep trying to tell myself that I really should not complain, every thing was at least 16 years old so I did get good use out of it but that never makes me feel better.

I now return you back to your regular schedule bargain hunting.

PS. what do new washer machines go for any way?

It'll be okay. That's what I tell myself.....usually it is. Maybe you can find one on craigslist - I had to get a used dishwasher when mine died this year. I actually like it better.

I second Craigslist. My friend got an almost brand new washer and dryer for a REALLY good deal. I want to say she paid less than $400 for both. They were only a year old too.

I feel your pain. Our wall oven broke last night.

I feel your pain too-only ours are car problems:

Plow truck driver at DH's work didn't put on the brakes and it slid down a hill almost totaled his car-did plenty of damage.

Tree branch fell on DH's car in windstorm-more damage

Someone rear ended me at the drive through at Dunkin Donuts

Last week, someone hit my DH's car in the supermarket parking lot (hit and run-$3200 worth of damage)

None of them our fault, but it will be a miracle if our insurance co doesn't cancel us.

Also, we just replaced our dishwasher and our washer is on the fritz too. My DD's has a metal daybed that is completely falling apart so we are probably going to replace that this weekend before she ends up on the floor. Plus the dog was sick, but thankfully ok $800 later. 2010 has been an expensive year for us too.

oh I'm agreeing with this being an overly expensive year! DD was born in February making our expenses go way up! I was ill prepared for the amount of diapers we were going to go through and the cost of them! yikes. Plus we are redoing our family room due to a few too many kitty accidents. I mean it is completely gutted and DH is rebuilding it from scratch which makes for great living conditions right now. New dry wall, paint, windows, door, he raised the ceiling, did new insulation, and we will be getting new carpeting. $$$$$$ keep flying out the window. He visits Home Depot every other day. I just want it all to be done!

OP we got a new washing machine a few years ago and it was a couple hundred dollars. Oh that's right! Earlier this year it flooded and we had to call a repair person. Seems that a baby sock got jammed in one of the tubes or something. Yeah, that cost us a lovely $75 to fix. Good times.

I want 2010 to be over too! But for completely different reasons....hugs going out to you!!!

:grouphug: We have all been there and feel your pain. Definitely check Craigslist for a new washer. Great deals are out there to be had. You may end up with a better one than you had before.

To the poster that is remodeling her family room with a baby in the house...I did that too. Whole house remodel with two children not yet in school. Baby proofing was absolutely non existent. They both learned how to walk from a stack of drywall to the boxes of nails! DD13 still hates Home Depot with a passion. What were we thinking?????

My aunt is having the same day as you.
Yesterday I found a nail in the tire, it's close enough to the side wall that it has to be replaced. Which means both tires need to be replaced for even wear. And it happened to be on the two newer tires, not the front ones that needs replacing in a few months.
There flies away 200$.
The digital converter box went out for the tv. It's less than 2yrs old.
There goes 70$.
Over the weekend, the sink disposal went on it's last spins.
There sucked down the drain is 100$.

Although on the bright side she got a 150$ refund from her insurance company.

yea.. this year can go away! its been a rough one - only in our family its been various medical issues!

Craigs list is awesome. I just got a new wall oven for $200
I always check craigs list first now!

I am so ready for this year to be over, too. We've had car issues ($750 deductible for accident then $600 in separate repairs a few months later), health issues (4 surgeries and a cancer scare), became full time caregiver to my mom, and lost a family member to domestic violence. We have absolutely stopped asking "What's next?" because it just keeps coming. About the only thing getting me through this year is the hope for a wonderful escape from it all on our vacation in January. We have scrimped and saved to make this trip, but I think this trip is just about the only think keeping me sane some days!

I spoke with three sales people in three stores who all said the same thing. They're making appliances that last about 7 years now. SEVEN.
That's awful and exactly how long our last washer, dryer and fridge lasted. (which they did not know)
I bought my dishwasher 17 years ago, a portable Kenmore and it's still going strong. Knock on wood.

oh you poor baby just sit and cry omg yes wet jeans are the worst

But ill trade you i have a slow leak in inground pool and its driving me crazy cannt find it, so now all winter i have to left the cover off it to see if i need to add water ugh...... hate pools

 My dryer has been dead for the past year, I've been hanging clothes. Dh decided that he was going to wash some of his jeans last night, then tried to hang them on the wooden clothes rack and broke it! It collapsed just as he said "I hope this can hold these" As I frustratingly walked over to him, I counted.....(get this!) EIGHT, yes, I did say EIGHT pairs of jeans and five tshirts!!!:scared1: I asked him if he was trying to break the washing machine too!!! Ugh! I swear he does this on purpose so he won't be asked to ever do laundry again! :laundy:

OP, I hear ya!! This has been a good year for me (I had my baby after 11 years of trying), but I'm terrified of our house, which is a ticking time-bomb of repair work... We bought the house new, so everything is the same age, and I'm just waiting for it all to go at the same time - the fridge, dishwasher, wall oven, washer, dryer, HVAC, and water. (Oh, and the windows and roof, too!) On that sad day (year?) we will be very poor folk...

Unfortunately this is where I'm at. My house is 19 years old so even stinkin appliance is 17 years old at least. I know that's pretty good "usage" but when you take a look at a brand new front loader going for $700 bucks, it's never a good time.

Eliza, don't you have your Paris trip to look forward to? :)

Sorry to hear about your rotten luck so far this year.

I had a year like that the year before last. We had no money to be able to fix anything. First the toaster oven kicked it...then the microwave...so we had to heat up everything in the oven. Then the dryer broke so we had to start hanging up all of our clothes. That is not fun in the winter. Then it was the car, then the computer. It was a bad year. I feel your pain.

LOL. Thanks for remembering SJ. yep. 5/23-5/31. Of course at this rate, I may have to ship my entire families clothes over just to use the washer or dryer.
