It's official: DQ out, NBA Experience in!

Sad to hear it. DQ isn't what it once was, but I was a video game junkie as a kid, so I enjoyed it in a retro way. It certainly wasn't our favorite place to go, but it was a nice change of pace and a way to spend a few hours. The kids enjoyed it a lot. It had clearly been neglected the past few years, which was a shame.

I don't watch the NBA at all, so have no interest in what will be coming.

Timing will work out OK for us to have one last hoorah there. Our first park day is June 30th, so we'll have 4 days to find time to get there and give it a send off.

Well, I always liked DQ too, but they either needed to spruce it up a lot or close it down. I'm not crazy about an NBA experience, though I do like basketball okay. I will miss POTC: Quest for Buccaneer Gold the most!

Finally. Wish it was an NFL experience, but NBA would be the next best thing.

Of all the trips we've made to Disney, have never been to Disney Quest due to its price. Might have to make an acception though next month and check it out

I liked the idea of DQ but it was hopelessly outdated.

Guess it doesn't look like it'll be getting updated, which is a shame. If it had been updated it really could have been something.

I doubt I'll go to the NBA experience, but I wasn't going back to DQ anyway so I suppose this announcement leaves me indifferent, if maybe a little sad for what DQ could has been.

Made an effort to see it last trip in December. I agree it was run down (the pinball machines were in horrible shape) but still loved it.

I wonder what they'll do with the Fix it Felix machines... They should be placed in Tomorrowland by Space Mountain or something and set to free play.

Sad to hear.

DQ clearly needed a complete overhaul
or the real estate needed a great new experience .....
...but NBA ..... I think we will see another failure.

VERY often DQ will be half price in the evenings.

so what does one do at the NBA experience, aside from play basketball I assume? I'm not a sports enthusiast and don't pretend to be. This is nothing I would be interested in doing. I don't know much about sports, but it seems to me that more Americans prefer football or baseball? I wonder why Disney chose basketball?

Disney owns ESPN which owns NBA TV game rights and has a gazillion NBA talk shows on its networks. Pretty simple math.

I am really not sure what/whom they are targeting with this. Anyone interested in Sports may already make a trip to the ESPN zone. DS is an eclectic spot with MANY good options already in place. I do not see how they would attract the amount of people they would need to make this a success, UNLESS they are counting on underwriting any losses to advertising for their NBA network.
All in all, Disney, with their multiple lines of success with their movie franchise could have put a movie experience in place that would have attracted the movie buffs, while promoting their own. A Disney museum would have interesting too.

Had zero interest in DisneyQuest, but we LOVE basketball! I just showed the announcement to DS9 and he wants to book NOW! LOL! We'll see how it fares, but I do know they have one huge fan who can't wait to visit!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner ............. you move the ESPN off the Boardwalk to Disney Springs, expand it to include experiences ... I mean the building is what 5 floors. It could be a combination restaurant/bar/ESPN/gaming/arcade ............. maybe whole family there to watch games and kids have things they can do ........ TVs everywhere. Make it a giant ESPN with GOOD food like the new NBC Grill at Citywalk.

But to limit that huge building to one sport ................. they better build with backup plan in mind.

ESPN is dying... Not the best option for something that might not be here in 5-10 years if trends keep up.
