It's official: DQ out, NBA Experience in!

We enjoy DQ. I'm sad to see it finally close. I wish it would close at the end of the year as we travel in August and will not get to visit one last time.

I really hope they save the Fix It Felix machines and put them somewhere else on property. My kids love them!

Anyone have any idea how this closing will effect the WPF&M tickets? There's no way we play mini golf in August! The "fun and more" is dwindling.

My 14 year old goes EVERY YEAR .... hes going to be sad. I hope the NBA Experience is amazing though!

It is not listed as one of the Disney "FUN" options now, and I think they dropped it a while back, maybe beginning of 2016.

I do think they allowed you to use it there while it was open, but it wasn't on the list.

Count us as another sad family. I was hanging on to hope that DQ would still be there for our family trip in August. Now DS will spend cash at the resort arcade instead. I'm already having issues about family vacations with a 14 yr old boy. My teen DD is easy but its been getting harder and harder finding stuff that DS enjoys doing. He's happy about the Disney trip - but has no particular must dos....and we're there for 15 nights! I had been hoping for multiple nights at DQ.

Yes, DQ hasn't been listed as part of the WPF&M ticket for some time (since the original closure announcement), but they were still allowing them to be used. I would imagine they can still be used for DQ until it actually closes down for real.

Okay :goodvibes with all the info that followed it seemed like you didn't see why we thought it was a bad idea and that we didn't get it. I didn't read any of it as NBA bashing or dislike for the sport ..... and I do agree if they said football it wouldn't have as much questioning .... but I think overall the space is way to large to support the particular sport picked for many reasons.

NOW, maybe they are not planning to use the whole space or maybe they are going to bulldoze it and build from scratch something more reasonable.

Glad to hear about the prices at Trophy. I've never gone in assuming they were only top of the line and overpriced.

Makes the most sense and now maybe it won't be so big aka sustainable.

Cast Members say the DisneyQuest building will be demo'd.
Building was custom for the attractions and can't be used in current state for NBA.

Went to DQ a few years ago when we had DVC Premium AP's. Loved the concept - hated that a significant percentage of the games and attractions were broken (and the entire place just seemed dirty/not well maintained).

No desire to go back to DQ, nor will we go to the NBA Experience since basketball is only slightly above soccer on the bottom of the list of sports I care about.

That being said, we have no desire to go into half of the stores at DD/DS, and it still doesn't stop us from spending most of a day there every time we take a trip to WDW.

Yeah, I pretty much assumed they'd demolish it. That building is too weirdly laid out for anything but DQ (and honestly it wasn't necessarily the best for that either).

Count us as another family sad to see DQ go. We go every time we are down there, so will have to try and get one last trip in. We were planning a trip during the week of July 4th. Is DQ's last day July 2nd or 3rd?

Sad to see it go, but more so for sentimental reasons. I remember our son going there and having the time of his life. But he's all grown now, about to complete grad school, so it's just another reminder how quickly the years have gone by and another part of his childhood will be gone.

There was big negotiations between Disney and the NBA as to costs and design of the buildings. Of course they have come to an agreement since the building will now be demolished. I still expect the space to be quite big with multiple levels likely.

July 3rd.

I guess only time will tell exactly what goes in there. Wonder how long it will take to complete. Even though I'm not an NBA fan, I agree with others that I don't know that any single sport would be able to maintain a large attraction all to itself, except perhaps the NFL...and even that would be a big "maybe" (not counting the sports' respective Hall of Fame). I would so much love to see an all "major" sports building the size of DQ...like I mentioned before, maybe like the ultimate ESPN Zone type place. One floor for: NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NASCAR . The NHL and NASCAR don't have as large a fan base as the others, but those fans they do have (myself included) are usually die hard fans, so I could see those things getting enough support if they're surrounded by NFL, etc....

Also, wouldn't it make sense to put this...whether it's NBA or anything else sports related...into the Wide World of Sports complex? Currently nobody goes there unless they have a specific event they are a part of. This is a perfect gateway to get people to come in, and maybe even draw more guests to sporting events going on in there. Then put something more "Disney" where DQ currently is.

We were planning to go there twice on our Aug trip (a 2 week trip). :sad1::sad:

In fact, we planned a 9:30 pm flight on departure day, so with a 6:00+ pm DME departure, we'd be able to go to DQ for a final goodbye :sad1:

I told the family it might close before we can go, and DS7, who doesn't remember going when he was younger, is really upset by it.

I guess we'll go to water parks those 2 days, and maybe mini golf. Though, in Aug, and mini golf having to be before 4 pm, not sure how many holes we'll get through.

Oh, and when I told them it would be an NBA experience, they were all even more devastated. They had at least assumed it would be something that would interest them!

I place zero credibility on what all non-managerial CMs say. I've heard otherwise, and you should place zero credibility on that as well because I do. We'll know soon enough.

Yes we will know .......... hopefully by the end of the year.
I shall make my own credibility decisions.
I don't place zero credibility on non-managerial CMs.
Many CMs stay involved with management, take interest and know things.

Well ....
I knew DQ closing date before anyone published it.
DD used to work there.
I knew 3 weeks before any blogger/vlogger anybody announced the hat was coming down in DHS.
It came straight from the CMs who were working in the hat to DD, also a CM.
And while so many argued it was moving, I knew it was being destroyed. It was.
I didn't share because if you really know real stuff like that - you don't share on forums or with people who will share.
I knew Soarin' rehab was happening even when the "almighty" at WDMagic said they were waiting to see if TSMM expansion helped.
I knew it would close for a long time even though everyone swore it would minimal disruption.
Why, because DD who was not a manager was told by her Soarin' manager and even saw all the blueprints.
Folks were still saying it wouldn't close long as the CMs were being offered transfers of their choice if they didn't want to go to the end.
I knew all about the new Memory Maker, the videos they would insert, the interactive things that would come to parks - way in advance.
Been told plenty of things from CMs that turned out to be very true, even when other folks said no way.

Yes some CMs will make stuff up, but plenty know plenty.
Many simply don't care, it's just a job, so they don't listen nor ask.
I've been told a number of things that are to happen this year ... waiting to see if the pan out.
The biggest problem is Disney's poor planning, poor long term vision, constant adjusting of plans, deadlines etc.
And might as well say it - Rivers of Light has shown their inept side.

Just to go back to the possibility ....... the building would need MAJOR renovation.
5 floors cut up bad.
NO windows, that alone could be a structural issue. It wasn't built to have windows.
No real kitchen, would have to be worked in.
2 elevators and LOTS of stairs, as the smaller elevators would likely be changed to staff.
Only 1 freight elevator in back.
Sometimes it's just cheaper to bulldoze and rebuild.
But like we do agree on ........... we'll see.

Given that I think it's not such a good idea ............ could be they will try to put the square peg in the round hole.

WWoS has select dining options which fit the place for what it is. No reason to build something like this at a place that people don't regularly go. Disney Springs makes sense for it.

We'll know soon enough.
I've seen other sources say this building will be significantly changed. Now that could mean demo or it could mean just changes to the existing building. I think it's pretty certain that the building won't stay in its current form when al, is said and done.

Others here know people as well.
