I'VE BOOKED MY VERY FIRST DVC VACATION!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I am using my Dev Points at SSR for a 2BR but will keep on trying for the illusive Treehouse and then to BLT to visit my home!

I am so excited but not necessarily because I am going to WDW again but because we are bringing along my brother, sis n law and their three kids for their VERY FIRST TRIP to Disney World! I am just so excited for the kids and happy to get away with my brother as it was 1993 the last time I went away with him and his wife.

I just had to tell SOMEONE so I am telling my Dis-Family.

I am to be honest a bit apprehensive about SSR as it's just 'not my thing' but I will make the absolute best of it and even though the styling isn't my favorite (the resort is lovely in it's own way) I will have a fantastic time.

Do you regular SSR visitors have suggestions for buildings to recommend as the CM asked me if I had any requests and I had NO idea... I can tell you that we will not have a car and the vacation will consist of 4 adults in the 30/40 range and 3 kids 7, 12 and 13.

Are there any suggestions of things to do at the resort or hidden gems we should be aware of? Any bit of info will be truly appreciated. :worship:

No advice as I haven't stayed at SSR, but I wanted to say Congrats! It is exciting to make your first ressie. I hope you have a great time with your brother and sister-in-law. That will be a wonderful trip. :wizard:

Congratulations!!!

I stayed at the SSR in November using my Developer Points. I too was apprehensive about staying there since the resort is so large. But honestly I loved it! Its really nicely themed, my room seem "bright and airy", the CMs there were very nice.
It was too cold for me to swim, but there were kids swimming and the main pool looked really neat. My room was close to one of the quiet pools, which again looked nice, but it was just too cold for me to try it out. The highest it got was about 65 degrees so that is not pool weather for me.
I stayed in the Grandstand section and it was a great location, close to the bus stop not a far walk from the main building and a really nice walk over to DTD.
One piece of advice, do not get the bus at the Springs section, this is the bus stop closest to the main building and it was always mobbed and generally those people had to stand on the bus as they were the last stop.

Congrats! We were there in November for our first visit using our DP too. We have 3 kids close in age to the ones going with you - 8, 13, and 14 at the time. They were so excited being our first DVC visit - we all loved the size of the villa - 2 bedroom felt so huge compared to our last visit. I did not want to go to SSR at all, but ended up enjoying it. It was too cold for us to swim too, but we did make use of borrowing some games and dvd's while there. We were in the Grandstand and it was great being the first bus stop. It was not crowded when we were there and infact no one had to stand from any of the stops that we stopped at along the route. Contrary to what I have read here from a lot of people - we were not impressed with the restaurant though - the quick service one was fine, but the sit down one - forgot the name wasn't very good. We also went to downtown disney a couple of times and it was great being close to that area - got to go to Goofy's Candy shop - the best!!!!

'Illusive' or 'elusive'? While they may not yet be open ... I have reservations for December. I hope I've not been deceived!
