There was a thread about DVC members getting more 'perks', because they are DVC members. Some felt that the disappearance of EE was very disappointing. I have been looking at some of the other boards and people there are threatening to cancel their reservations if Disney does not add EE back in to the park hours.

I find this behavior ridiculous! Yes, Disney is expensive. It is fun. We all want to go. We all want to get the most for our $$$. BUT we are missing the point. Walt created Disney as a place for families to be together. Not to see how much you can cram into one day. Then, get grouchy because your feet hurt so bad, that you wish you could permanently attach rollerblades to what used to be your feet. Disney is more than just entertainment. To me, it is a time when we (my family), can slow down, enjoy each other and learn and experience new things. Everytime we go there, we are so thankful for how fortunate we are to be able to go and spend time together.

For those who still do not understand the cutbacks...buy a business. Then you will understand that no matter how much you want to give, sometimes you just can't afford to do it. Disney does not only have this in mind being a 'family business', but they have thousands of cast members to look out for. They are trying to keep them in jobs, too. They may not be working what they are used to, but they are working.

Sorry everyone, I just had to say something. Disney will come around, as will the economy. It will take time.
We are Americans. We have come so far, don't let a few cancelled park hours getthe best of you.

tinkrbells;)

As I said on the other thread, WDW is still there and we are HAPPY! If these cuts mean "saving" Disney, I am all for them. EE was something we used occationally, but I can certainly live without it.

Here, here, Tink!!!!! I too am getting a little sick of the whining about the cutbacks. At first, it was interesting to read what cuts they had made, but I don't even read the posts that start with "Cutbacks" anymore. If we want Disney to stay afloat during this unusual time in our country's history, we're all going to have to suck it up a bit!!!!

Cutbacks or no cutbacks, a bad day at WDW (if there is such a thing) is better than a good day at home. In the grand scheme of things, the cutbacks are no big deal. They have not and will not cause me to change my vacation plans.

Another thing I have been thinking reading those posts is this:
Aren't those things put in place for on site guests so that when things are really BUSY we have a little time to ourselves when the parks aren't as crowded? If the parks aren't crowded why would I get up early to avoid lines that aren't there anyway? Doesn't make a lot of sence to me. Besides WDW's time zone is an hour ahead of what I'm used to anyway. That makes it even harder to get everybody up early.

I would imagine that when attendance picks back up they will reinstate EE and probably E-Ticket nights. That one was something that I didn't even consider doing since you had to pay extra for it anyway. Felt like I had already paid enough for my ticket and didn't need to add to that cost.

I only wish that I could do something to help out that attendance problem, but since I was there twice this year I think my DH would kill me if he thought I would really try to get back before our next scheduled trip in June. I don't know if I have that much restraint or not. Wish me luck on holding back (I guess)!

Magic exists because of the people who believe in it. :earsboy: :earseek:

Cancelling reservation because of cutbacks makes no sense to me. What does it prove? Does it help the business in any way? All you do is continue the downward financial circle .... bad financial times or National tragedy = people cancelling trips = cutbacks in services, CM's out of work = mad people cancelling reservations because of no EE, closed Resorts, etc. = MORE cutbacks, closings, CM's out of work, etc. = ?

Enjoy what WDW can give you. It's way better than nothing or staying home IMO.

Well said, everybody. We don't go to Disney for 'freebies'. And we don't 'expect' to get any gifts. We're happy just being there. We've never used EE because, well, we're always too tired to get up early. It's supposed to be a vacation, not a death wish!!!

I agree with you tinkrbells 100%!!!
I completely understand why WDW must make these cutbacks, the whole world is suffering, and just doing what they need to survive during this time!

that said, WDW is still and always will be the most magical place on earth! I love going there so often because it is the only place where my dh and I can spend real quality time together and be completely immersed in the magic! WDW is a place where we can go to escape the rat race of everyday life, a place where there is fantasy everywhere, and a sense of peace and happiness all around us!!!

we love going to wdw, and will continue to do so as often as we can!!! :)

Laura :)

14 days til 2 *magical* weeks at WDW!!! yipeeeeeeee :) :) :)

I agree 100% that Disney needs to do what they have to do from a business standpoint. It's fine with me, under the circumstances, that they are cutting back on EE and E-nights. Between the events of 9/11 and having recently gone throught a very frightening health issue in our family, I'm thrilled we're even going to WDW in a couple of weeks. We would never consider canceling because of the cutbacks.

Having said that, I'm disappointed that there is no EE. Yes, I understand Disney's decision, and yes, if Disney says that's what needs to be done, I support it. BUT, I am disappointed. We used EE almost every day...we're early risers, and when we're there...end of November, early December...the closing hours are earlier at MGM and MK. This doesn't mean we are out to see how much we can cram into one day, but it does mean...even at this slower time of year...that we do almost NO waiting in ANY lines, and spend a large part of the afternoon hanging around at the pool or whatever, head back to the parks, which then close early. We've frequently seen "longer" (however longer they might be) lines later in the morning than we do during EE. We liked the way EE worked for us...for us it made for a very relaxing day, and certainly not an opportunity to get grouchy.

The "outrage" at Disney on these boards for various reasons...from not getting towels folded in animal shapes to not getting "complimentary" upgrades...has annoyed the heck out of me, as well as the outrage that people feel over the decisions that Disney has made under these horrific, difficult circumstances. But...I do understand the disappointment. And when I look back to the situation we were in 4 years ago...our first, and we thought our only, trip to WDW...if we were faced with these cutbacks then, I may have felt a little more than "disappointment", then I do now with my 4th trip ahead of me and as a DVC member, obviously knowing I'm heading back.

Having said that, I don't see that the changes affecting this trip will be any less magical, and I will value this time together with my family more than any other.

What is an unimportant or unused benefit to you may be of paramount importance to someone else. Who is to say whether it is wrong or right for someone to cancel their vacation. The spirit of this forum, I would think is for people to express their opinions and observations about Disney good AND bad. The last I checked it doesn't say in the posting rules that you can only post if you have nice things to say to say about Disney.

Let me state that none of the cuts would effect me, and I would not cancel a vacation over them. However I can understand why it may upset a person who counted on them being there. Disney has to do what Disney has to do to stay in business, and more power to them when they do. However, everyone has a personal choice to make over whether Disney is the best place to spend their vacation dollars. Let's hope they choose Disney.

Good points, sgtdisney....

As Disney Doll said, just don't read the posts that are obviously venting....but don't bash people for their opinions either.

"Mare"...you sum up my feelings well. Disappointment is a lot different than outrage. We used EE sometimes, and are disappointed to see it suspended (I refuse to use the word eliminated). However, I know Disney has to do what they must to keep financially strong. In the long run, that will only mean that my vacation investment is being safeguarded.

Having said all that, I am somewhat amazed that someone's vacation plans to WDW hinge completely on EE. That blows my mind.

But I respect anyone's decision to book or cancel vacations for whatever reasons they may have. It's a lot of dough and everyone has a right to make decisions without being bashed.

We never did use EE. It really does not bother me one way or the other. What does bother me is that Disney is still advertising EE.
Since the discontinuation, I have received a video, a 'planner' from AK and saw an ad in this past Sunday paper offering this perk.
Some may argue that it would be too costly to change the info already printed. I agree that for the video and brochure, yes it would be difficult to change. But they could certainly change the newspaper ad. I remember reading on another board someone getting up early one morning and heading over to MGM to find a closed park. That is sad to me, and not fair to the people expecting EE.

Hopefully, people are aware of the changes, and will not be getting up early for nothing.

Is it possible that part of the reason they suspended ( I agree with you Granny) EE & E-nights was because there were not many peolpe using them with the light crowds?

Muuska- I agree it would be to expensive to change things that had already been made. Maybe the add is one that is part of a regular printing that runs occassionally. Printers, papers, etc. give discounts on running the same thing more then once. Or maybe it just feel through the cracks. Somebody that was supposed to proff read this and may be in trouble for it.

As for getting up early and going to a park for an EE that didn't happen, the resorts give you a brochure at check in that states the weeks events and operating hours and you can call the parks from the resort or even the front desk to check hours of operation for the day. PEople should be checking during this time.

Good point. I've screwed up on other occasions a few times at WDW by not reading what was right in front of me.

loribell,

When you are right, you are right! Thanks, Muushka

Don't get me wrong, I am all for people expressing their opinion...that is why I started this thread. I know that people are disappointed in EE days being put on hold for now. My point was I could not believe that people would actually cancel their trip over that. Yes, that is their vacation and if they want to cancel, so be it. I just can't see why people wouldn't go to
Disney because of EE. There is so much there and it is so magical! I would rather do without EE, than to not go on the trip at all.

Well, I fall into the "loyal until death" camp and I'm getting tired of the whining too. I do follow the advice of one of the above posters-- I try not to read the topics that are obviously just complaining and more gloom, doom and despair. I'm happier that way. :) After all, part of the reason I'm a Disney fanatic is that I like HAPPY things.

Ok, on a different subject, Granny is a GUY????

Yep DVCCajun...

Granny told us that a while back in another post. Guess you must have missed it. I believe it has something to do with his last name?? I think that's what he said.
