It's not for everyone!

Regarding Rude People and Rude Children (not that children aren't people too:)) They're everywhere. Seen um at Disneyland and WDW. Dealt with them at the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. The "kickers" (kids who swing their feet and kick you in the back) we experience EVERYwhere there is stadium type seating. Doesn't matter if there's a back on the seat or not. If there's a back, they just kick harder.

The video/photog's in the shows. I don't know how many times I've been around people whos attitude is "I've got the camcorder, I'm more important than you and I'm standing up in front of you and everyone else taking my stupid video!!"

You probably won't have the rude children problem on Celebrerty, you'll get the snobish adults - "just where did you get THOSE clothes" and watch out for the walkers and wheel chair on HAL, because they conficiscate and children when you board the ship;)

Seriously, you are going to run into people (adult and children) that have absolutly no respect for anything. I don't know how many times I've told kids to stop destroying the plants at Disney properties where their parents think johnny is being cute. The biggest problem her is that johnny is 13yo and the parents haven't done anything to correct their childs behaviour for years.

A frequent comment is that the "nightlife" on DCL is "boring". My question is what wouldn't be boring. What you you like to see and then is it feasable for DCL to implement.

For example...
I've seen Fidelio in dueling pianos on 3 different cruises. First time, was during adults time. The room was pretty packed, the piano players were awesome, and the room had absolutly no energy. We stayed for 45 minutes and it never changed. So we left. We came back the next day during Family Dueling Pianos and the kids were full of energy and what a difference it made. We came back later that night and it was a repeat of the first night - so we found something else to do (maybe family spy party in studio sea) Now that place was hopping. Second time pretty much the same experience with Dueling Pianos as the first time. Third cruise with Fidelio - and there was energy in the room. The hours flew by so quickly it wasn't even funny. The makeup of the "spectators" made all of the difference in the world.

rwlyo,

I just wanted to add my $.02....

Sounds like some of your experiences on the Magic were the same ones we had on RCCL's Explorer of the Seas last November. We had the rudest people on our ship that I have ever encountered I think! I have several stories about them on my trip report
if you would like to read about them. I guess this can happen to anyone on any ship, and it can ruin a vacation, that's for sure.

When we got back from that cruise, I had read some trip reports on another board saying their cruise was absolutely fabulous!! I was thinking...geez, what cruise was he on??? :teeth: but then again I am sure that on our first cruise on DCL, there were people who didn't enjoy it as much as we did. In fact, a family we met on board ...the mom had red wine spilled all over her white formal dress by inconsiderate people :earseek:

We LOVED our Disney cruise!!! We have no kids and we don't drink alcohol but we really enjoyed the Disney atmosphere. In fact, I waited until I could afford a DCL cruise for my first cruise cus I knew that if it was Disney, it would be good. But I also think that you really have to be a Disney nut to really, really enjoy and appreciate what DCL is all about. I don't think my brother & sister in law (same age as us) would enjoy it as much cus they are not "Disney" people.

We had over 1100 kids on our DCL cruise and the only time we saw them was at the shows, in the atrium or at the buffet. I think Disney does a great job with the adult only experiences. I especially appreciated Serenity Bay!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

rwlyo, thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree with you on some points. Such as no photographers at the adult pool or beach. I have written that on my comment cards a few times.
We have cruised with DCL five times (without children) and are not sure if we will cruise with Disney again. Maybe it is time to try other cruise lines. There are many things we love about DCL.

rwlyo, I'm sorry you didn't have a good time. We have been on four cruises in the last 18 months without the kids...all of them Disney. Two more are booked this year, one with me and 6 other adult females (3 are my sisters). However, in July we are taking our grown daughters, son-in-law and 2 yo grandson because I have enjoyed the cruises so much I CAN"T WAIT to take the kids! Inconsiderate people are on all of the cruise lines if you look for them...we have been on RCCL and HAL, too. I guess it's just what your expectations are as to how good a time you have.

There was a photographer at the family beach, but none at the adult beach!
This upset me a lot too! I saw all these gorgeous pictures of people in the water at the beach and was looking so forward to getting one myself, only to never see a photographer on Castaway Cay. I can understand why - they probably assume that the adults don't want to be disturbed and that they're not likely to buy pictures unless their kids are in them. Still, darn it, I wanted that picture! ;) I feel silly now for not having written on the comment card. Duh, why didn't I think to do that? Or better yet, I'll just mention to the photographers the day before CC that I want to see one of them over there!

Otherwise though, I have to say that childfree DH and I had a fabulous time on our two 3-day cruises. We stuck almost exclusively to the adult areas and didn't attend many of the shows. We went to the Serenity Bay lunch the first cruise and Cookie's on the second cruise, and frankly, I much preferred Serenity Bay. I thought the food was better - I'll take the grilled salmon over that lobster burger any day. Not to mention how much quieter it was :p However, DH and I are not the partying/drinking type, and prefer to just relax. I can see how someone who's looking for the more typical nightlife adult activities would be disappointed by what Disney had to offer.

Everyone interprets different situations differently...and they are entitled to..My experience on 3 DCL trips has been different. I have gone "adults only" all three times and have always felt that we were able to isolate ourselves from the "family" enviornment when I wanted to. Just my two cents. pirate:

Oh my gosh, I am not the only one! Talk about high expectations and let down ;) .

Since we have not taken our first cruise yet - I will tell you about an incident we experienced our last time at Magic Kingdom. We we on the ferry waiting to get off and 4 60something's all on those electric wheelchair/scooter type chairs pushed their way through the line to position themselves infront of everyone. I am a nurse and of course I gave the boys a look to say - let them through. Well the four of these people were extremely rude and did the same thing at the line to get into the magic kingdom. My DH and I had a chuckle about it after the fact and I even saw them several times during the day - I think it was just the way they acted in line that bothered me so much. I noticed this last time we were at Disney that there were not only all the strollers to fight but the scooter things too. anyone else experience this?

AprilRiddle:

Oh, my gosh -- don't even get me started. We were in WDW last November, and I have never had so many bruises and cuts from strollers and motorized carts! It got to the point that we started to notice younger people riding them and having children sit on their laps -- like it was a game!

I had a father-in-law with Parkinson's, so he would have needed a cart, but I know he would have never used it as a free ticket to the front of the line. We were in line for one of the shows and we heard this voice saying, excuse me, excuse me -- so everyone moved and here comes this woman riding right up to the front of the line! Someone actually said to her that just because she is in that does not give her the right to push everyone aside! She ignored him.

The worst incident I had was in Animal Kingdom. My DH and DD were on the rapid rivers ride and I had just left the parade. I was walking back and boom, got rammed right up the back of the leg with one of those ridiculously big "car" strollers they rent now (what were they thinking when they saw that design on the drawing board!). Well, it was my bad knee, which I had been trying to pamper so it wouldn't go out on me. I turned around and this woman was yacking to the man next to her and hadn't been looking where she was going. I gave her a look and she said, oh, sorry. So, I limped over to the side to get out of the way -- mind you, NEVER saying another word to this woman. That could have been that. But all of a sudden she had the nerve to look over at me and say, "Oh, lighten up". I guess I didn't give her the forgiving smile or whatever that she needed! Well, I went off -- I yelled at her "do you know how many times I have been rammed by you people with those things" -- and I got the typical wave of the hand (like she was the Queen).

People really do amaze me at how self-centered and full of themselves they can be!

Please remember to keep this on the topic of the cruise.

Motorized scooters and strollers are a completely different issue.

::yes::
Thanks!

Sue Ellen

Disney is about families, but more importantly it is about childhood dreams, wishes and fantasy. Children love the fantasy and parents wish they didn't know the reality of life.

In recent years adults have sadly become more involved in the "ME" generation. They don't care about the people around them; the only care about how "those" people effect them.

Walt Disney tried to make a difference in other people’s lives and he did so on a grand scale.

Maybe more people could take a lesson from Walt and try to make a difference in a child's life.

I hate to say this in slang, but "it ain't all about you!"

The world is a much greater place than just YOUR life so make a difference like Walt did.

(I am officially off my soapbox)

Jeff

My DW (of 32 years) and I have been on 4 DCL Magic cruises. We never felt like the DCL experience was just for families with kids. I'm sorry you felt that way. I can't wait to get back on that ship!

Speaking of scooters and strollers, how prevalent are they ont he ships? Are the narrow passageways lined with babby buggies and motorized scooters? Are people on the ship more courtious with these than in the parks?
