It's never too late to join the WISH Biggest Loser 5 challenge

Would some one explain what the challenges are? I am so afraid of failure ... I need support in helping to get to a healthy weight!

Would some one explain what the challenges are? I am so afraid of failure ... I need support in helping to get to a healthy weight!

Hello domiii and welcome...if you go to one of the other BL weekly threads you can see what we have done in the past. I try to participate when I can. Meaning due to needing a knee replacement and trying to preserve what mobility I have left in it, I may not do all of the exercise challenge that week. Or perhaps I work a 60 hour week and am unable to do things such as do something good for myself etc, I may not do all of the challenge that week. What you WILL find is a bunch of people--big, little, tall, short, all shapes, sizes--who want to help and support each other in their quest to get fit, get in shape, lose weight, live healthier...you fill in the blanks. I would not worry, check out the threads and see for yourself. Join in and have some fun!:goodvibes

Am I speaking to Karen?

Anyway. The most important part of our challenge is the weekly weigh in. Based on the percentage of weight lost each week superstars are recognized. Usually a top ten. To further challenge everyone weekly challenges are posted. Participation in them is optional. After the weekly scores are tabulated the top scorers are recognized. Here is an example of some previous challenge tasks. We do have a new challenge organizer so many tasks will change.

1. Add 10% more time to your regular workout. If your daily workout is 30 minutes do 10% more (or 33 minutes). 60 minute workout - do 66 minutes. Doing 2 mile walks do 2.2 miles. You get the idea. Just a little push -- 5 pts for each workout you add 10% -- max 35 pts

2. 10% not a challenge for you? Add 20% -- 10 pts for each workout you add 20% -- max 70 pts

3. Share with the group your favorite exercise DVD and what you like about it, including yoga, strength training, pilates, etc -- 5 pts for each review -- 15 pts max

4. letting your stretching slack?? Add 10 mins of stretching after your workout -- 5 pts each stretching session -- max 35 pts

another week was

1. perform an act of service/volunteering -- 5 pts for each activity -- max 20 pts

2. visit someone in a nursing home or hospital -- 5 pts for each visit -- max 20 pts

3. write a heartfelt letter to someone who influenced your life -- 5 pts for each letter -- max 20 pts

4. share with your team in your weekly thread a family holiday tradition -- 5 pts for posting -- max 5 pts

5. visit www.thebreastcancersite.com, follow the tabs and click to give supporting the 6 different webpages (Hunger, Breast cancer, Literacy, Rainforest, Child Health and Animal Rescue) -- 5 pts for each day you click all 6 sites -- max 30 pts

We also had one involving trying new healthier foods and recipes.

For more information on the basic challenge read post #1 on this thread and for an overall view of BL 4 that is now ending look here.

We generally only compete with ourselves to try to do the best we can on the scales. We do not trash talk or demean each other. No one is ever kicked off unless they do not report their weight for three weeks. Even then they are never publicly named or ridiculed.

We are a supportive and encouraging group here to help each other achieve our weight loss goals. Some weeks are harder for some than other weeks but even with a gain there is no scorn here. We are all just trying to develop healthier habits to help us become healthier people.

I hoped that helped to calm your fears. Thanks to winniedapooh (my bud Michelle) for chiming in too. If you have any other questions please ask away.

Yes, it's Karen! I think I found what I need here. I'd love to join. I need that inspirational, motivational, you can do it help! I've been over weight my entire life. I am going to be 50 and just want to be healthier and live a longer life!

DW and I are in. :yay: We leave on May 23rd for a week on the Big Island and Oahu and DW has been talking about getting back to the gym and getting some of this weight off but, for the past month, it has been all talk, no action. This should get us moving.

I would like to join. I've been a dis-er for years, but only recently found the wish board. I just started to exercise mid March and am loving it, but not seeing the scale more. I haven't done a BL thing before, but am eager to try and get some of this weight off. We will be cruising the Wonder in September where we will renew our vows for our 25th anniversary.

Hey Kimberly happy to see you as well!:thumbsup2 I am excited to keep going! How is the running going for you? :cheer2: Welcoming new friends and old...nothing better than being with a bunch of losers!:goodvibes :cheer2:
The running is going pretty well. I upped it this week and am now running more than walking at least for my first lap. I figure I'll get into running the first lap and then work on the second. The first lap is 1.3 miles and I am probably running close to a mile interspersed with walking. The second lap is about 1.7 miles so that'll probably take me some time to work up.

If anything I know I am getting really good at wheezing :lmao:

I would like to join also. I am not very motivated, I hope this will give me a jump start:cheer2: :cool1: :yay:

Ok, I am in too.

I wasn't going to - I dropped off the last one by missing too many weigh ins and falling out of the loop, but my buddy, Vija, convinced me to get on board, so I will.

The Friday weigh in is perfect, as my meeting is on Thursday nights and I am determined to return tomorrow night - no matter what the scale will say.

So many of you have done so well in the last challenge, I am inspired.

A very embarrassing thing happened to me last Thursday. My husband and I went to an April Wine concert, which was awesome, but our seats were in the balconey, in front. I had to go up a flight of stairs, down another (with no railing) disturb the whole row and somehow squeeze in.

Well, I couldn't, they had to move me to an aisle until they figured out what to do with me, then the whole row had to move down one to accommodate me.

My husband had to help me down the stairs, oh, man, sooo embarrassing, everyone was staring.

I don't want to live like this anymore folks, and it never gets easy.

I was watching Ali last night on the show share the struggles she had getting to the gym and eating right.

It is a choice we have to make, everyday. I love to walk and have a race coming up, a race I will likely have to modify (from a 10k to a 5k) because I just have not trained enough.

I need the inspiration and much more effort.

I did better on this last challenge than the one before, but I never want to forget how embarrassing that was.

It has to start now...

So I am on board.

Linda

:tinker: :donald: :dumbo: :mickeyjum

Linda, It is so good to see you and since I am not the weight keeper this time around I will be there more to encourage you. We girls gotta stick together.

I know what you mean about your seat at the concert. I am dreading flying in July to see the new grand baby after it is born.

Here's my latest 'I hate being this fat' moment.

I am taking a CERT class (community emergency response training). I live about 30 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and I know that hurricane is coming soon. We have dodged too many here. The class is free and I wanted information. At the first class the instructor said we would take a field trip to the firefighter's training facility and practice crawling around on the floor to escape in case there is a fire. He also quickly added that those not able to participate would not be required to do so. Good thing! When I get down on the floor I have a hard time getting up.

Last Wednesday was CPR training. To practice our skills the instructor put the plastic dummies on the floor and told everyone to get to work on them. I left the room and returned when the practice was over. Even the little old ladies in the class got on the floor and did their stuff. After class I explained to the instructor that if I got on the floor I might not be able to get back up. She suggested I come to the Red Cross Office and have some one on one time with her. I made an appointment to do that.

The afternoon of the appointment I decided that I should 'practice' a little at home. To do rescue breathing you kneel beside the victim. I got on the floor and when I knelt I realized that there was no way I would be able to lean over and breath in any fake dummy's mouth. I just could not lean over. I could barely stand kneeling. I called and canceled my appointment. I just hope I am never in the situation that I am the only person nearby to offer CPR because it just ain't going to happen.

Done whining about that now.

I am here to change my life for the better. I am not doing great at losing weight even though I have an incredible amount to lose. I am trying. Some days I try harder than others. DH and I are on this crazy diet he found on the internet. It takes your body into ketosis - a fat burning state. We eat a planned menu with 4 meals a day and we are doing it together. My favorite part though is that after 11 days we get 3 days off to eat ANYTHING.

I am frustrated though because in three weeks Ken has lost 23 pounds and I have lost 9. That sucks. But at least that gets me to 20 pounds total lost so I can change my clippie. I am going to do that right now. Here's to the next 10, I only look at 10 at a time. I can do that and so can you. Let's get losing Linda.

I'm in too- I am looking at all the beautiful spring clothes that I would love to buy for my cruise in January, but I hope to be a lot lighter by then! I need some encouragement and support!

R,B, & L...don't even think of leaving MG out of this one. :cool1:
Count me in girls.;)

Ok...it's on!

I have to say, I have been hitting the candy hard lately. Any tips to curbing it?

Haven't been to the gym because of healing problems after surgery.

The gym keeps me in the right frame of mind. I go back to the Dr. next week, hopefully I get the Ok to go.

Wish me luck everyone.

Sign Me up! I am cruisin' in December and want to wear a Bikini!

Good for you. :thumbsup2 Go for it girl. :)

The "B" word hasn't been in my vocabulary for a looooong time. :rotfl2:

I'm 53 and I seem to have to work a lot harder to get the weight off. :confused3

My workouts aren't intense enough.

I would love to join, and will pm my weight tomorrow morning! This might be just what I need!

Maybe we could make that a new sport??? :goodvibes I am so impressed. Off to WDW this afternoon for a few days with DD for her excellent graduation trip. Hoping I don't gain too much. I will make good choices, I will make good choices;) :thumbsup2 ! Have a good weekend see you all next week.:goodvibes

I want to join, I need some motivation to get back to the gym, it is getting harder and harder to get there, and I too would love to lose some weight before my cruise in December.

HELP!!

I have TWO family parties on Saturday. And there is never food at a family party :rolleyes1 .Yikes, what a test right off the bat. But, I have my head in the game which is half the battle. I can do it, I can do it .....

Karen

Ok, I am in too.

YEAHHH!!! So glad to see you my friend!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Brenda, and Linda, I too have a sob story and it hurts and hurts and hurts to go through life like this. We will stick together, and we will conquer this. I too watched Alli and was amazed by her pure joy. We can have that too. We may not be on a big stage celebrating with the world, but we can have our own stage. Why not? Hey, when we reach our goal weight, why not have a party to celebrate with friends and family? I'll celebrate with both of you when you guys make it!!!:woohoo:
