It's NEVER Too Late, for Number 8 - the most UNOFFICIAL, 'official' AKL thread yet!

I went to WDW the second week of November in 2004 and the tree was already up the day I ate at Boma. I think most (if not all) of the decorations are up before Thanksgiving.

They have made changes/cut-backs in the last 6 - 8 years and the resorts are the last to be decorated. They used to have a beautiful chocolate display by Boma and that has been gone for about 6 years now too. :(

Thanksgiving is probably the best guess for when the resort trees will go up.

Good morning all! :)

Hey, Brandi... Are you flying or driving today??

Brandi - I think you had better take us off the December list of Js & Ks going to WDW. :(

It just isn't going to work out (again) this year. All four of us are upset, but work schedules just are not cooperating. I think we are going to rent a house on the OBX instead. It is close enough for Bob and I to drive to for the week and the girls can drive or fly in when they can get off work and get there.

David and I were talking about renting a house OBX for December also. That could be fun!

Sorry to have to take you off the list...

...okay, so let me say, for the record: I HATE VIRGINIA!

....well, not necessarily anyone named 'Virginia', nor even the state per se, but that HORRIBLE TRAFFIC ON I-95 FROM RICHMOND TO ALEXANDRIA on a Sunday afternoon!!!! :badpc:

Yes, there was a blog post from Disney about the changes, on certain night they are doing only one seating and adding 3 more courses I think. It looked really neat.

Well drat... I can't seem to find anything about it. :confused3 Tried searching the blog, and via google for the keywords add three course, one seating, etc with victoria and alberts and nada. I will just take it as a matter of fact that the change will be for the BETTER since they are on their 13th year of black diamond! Next time - it will be fabulous! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about the car.... pixiedust: hopefully you will find some pixiedust...
I updated your dates.

Thanks, Brandi! I'mstill not sure about the dates...I could fly Delta for cheaper, but I've got the JetBlue Amex which will earn miles, so i really dont know what to do:confused3

One thing to keep in mind: Delta charges you for checked bags, JetBlue doesn't.

You probably know that, but whenever I see anyone pointing out the Delta is a cheaper option, I feel the overwhelming, all-encompassing need to point it out. :)

Probably because checked bag fees tick me off. It means that, even when I get a "final price" for airfare, I have to do more math. Nobody (sane) wants to do more math.....

This will be the first time we are going in knowing we HAVE to check a bag... usually even for a 10 day vacation we only use carryons and do laundry once in the middle. This time though its two weeks and we need to bring formal wear so it will actually come into play.... :faint: I think we will still be able to get by with just one checked bag.

...but since we never do this I need luggage recommendations! Does anyone have any advice for us? We'd like to not spend too much, and I prefer one that won't fall apart with wheels but that are my only thoughts.

Honest?

We bought our "airline approved" (because they're very particular about size) stuff at Walmart. I think they were $25 or $30, apeice.

We've had them for about 5 years now. Theyr'e the ugliest brown color you'll ever see...but they've stood up well to the rigors of airline travel (not just Disney), they have wheels, and an extendable handle.... AND the zippers still work.

We typically bring 3 (if we have to pay) to 5 (if the checked baggage is free) of them when we travel. One for me (and the "bathroom necessities" for the family), one for my wife, and one for the 3 kids are REQUIRED. If we can get 2 more on for free...we can spread stuff out a bit and have room for the mountain of stuff we "acquire" while at WDW.

When we drive to Disney..we have larger, black luggage that was significantly more expensive. But we bought it before the smaller restrictions imposed by the airlines...so they'd be "oversized" by airline standards. It's not held up nearly as well (finicky zippers, sticky wheels) to the car rides...though we've had it a lot longer, too.
