I have the dreaded flu that is infecting the nation and to top it off my kids now have it and my job is not happy. When I left work yesterday the owner chewed me out saying I need to take some Vitamin c and change my tooth brushes and the only other time I called off was thanksgiving week and that was because I had an abcess. I don't care how much vitamin C you take that will not stop you from getting an abcess or the flu. Then when I caled yesterday to say i wouldn't be in today the director gave me an attitude saying she has the flu and she is there so there should be no reason why I can't be there. The bad part about this is I work in a day care and her office is next to the nursery. I also am her sons teacher and you think she would be happy that I was staying home especially since this flu is killing kids right now. I am now scared to call and tell them both my kids have been running fevers of 104 all day so I will not be in tomorrow either.
Sorry this is long but I am sick and upset

If it wasn'y for my landlord being the owner of the day care I would call corporate on them.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez! Another...what the heck is wrong with people! She shows up and will infect anyone around her. And she doesn't care if she infects the kids!!! Sickening! I hope you and your kids feel better soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear you're all so sick. I personally think this woman is a selfish ***!

You should stay home to care of yourself and your kids and not infect anybody else. You are doing the right thing and she shouldn't make you feel guilty about it.

Get some rest and feel better soon.

I wish you were having a happier birthday. :( Being sick is bad enough, but it's no way to spend a birthday. Hope things at work work out for you. Sending lots of pixie dust your way!!

Just tell her that maybe if SHE had stayed at home SHE wouldn't have infected you then you wouldn't have given it to your kids!!!!

Hope you feel better!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

She sounds like a winner... her actions show how completely ignorant she is. I wonder how the parents would feel about this if they knew...

I hope you and your kids feel better soon.

I'd look for a new job!

Sorry you're sick on your special day. Why not have an unbirthday party when everyone is feeling better?

I somehow doubt that the director truly has the flu. When you have the flu, you cannot get out of bed because of fever, severe muscle aches and pains, you literally feel as if you've been hit run over by a truck. Well unless the house was on fire, then you'd probably get out of bed. lol But seriously, too many people *think* they have the flu, when they don't. The fact that your poor kids have fevers of 104 leads me to believe they, and you, DO indeed have the flu. I'm sorry you have to work with people like them  Please take care of yourself and your kids, feel better soon!! :D

P.S. Tell her that YOU care about the children at the day care and wouldn't want to think you might spread this to them.

Thank you all for making me feel better. I do care about those kids as if they were my own and once I go back if I find out any of them have the flu or were put in the hospital because of it I would tell them about the director being there with the flu.
I doubt she has the flu either and if she does its the beginng stages where its not as awful as it will get. Ialso called them to tell them i will not be there tomorrow and I got the voicemail and left my message there. Besides i don't think they can legally fire me or write me up and I do have a doctors note.

Don't feel guilty, you are doing the right thing by staying home. Daycare of all groups should support family. In this case you and your family come first.

Take care of yourself and children. I hope all of you feel better soon. I don't care about the director, but I hope she stops sharing her germs!

Oh my goodness, I am right there with you! My birthday is in 2 days, I'm miserable with the bug that's going around, but I can't afford to miss work! Plus, I had to drive through a hail storm to work today!

I think someone needs to send us a birthday fairy godmother. She should come bearing orange juice and advil.

That's the cutest idea ever! ;) I hope everyone feels better soon, and someone should report that director if she really does have the flu! (I had the flu once a few years ago, and I can sympathize (sp?).)

Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To You, Sure Hope You Get Over Feeling Blue, Happy Birthday To You.

Sorry you are feeling so bad. Your boss sounds like a real princess. I can not imagine someone wanting you to come to work when you are so sick, especially working at a daycare!! You would think she would know better.

Hope your dear children are better real soon also,

First of all...Happy Birthday!

Second...what a jerk that woman is. If everyone was as concious as you are about not going to work when you're sick, this might not be an epidemic like it is.

Third...You're a Mom before you're anyone, and that means you stay home with your kids when they're sick. Get well wishes to all, except the jerk.

I'm usually sick on my birthday too (last year was the first time in about 30 years I wasn't sick on my birthday). I'm sorry you're miserable.

Happy Birthday.:)

Hugs for you and your kids. Hope everything works out. Look after yourself and your kids. They really do come first.

It is thursday and we are all fine now. Went back to work today and found out that my bosses kid ended up with the flu tuesday and has been off since then. I bet nobody chewed her out for missing. Also yesterday alone 17 kids one after another came down with the flu and had to go home. 2 went home today as well and I think 4 in my class will be gone tomorrow. What a shame when you don't take care of yourself and you selfishly involve other little kids. People like that need a new line of work.

Listening to MSNBC, kids are dying in parts of the nation. For those who can't get the shots, FluMist is available for those HEALTHY people aged 5 to 49.

I certainly hope your boss gets the picture soon. 23 kids down with the flu is no laughing matter at your school.

Glad you are feeling better.

This is one tough flu - I work in a small community hospital (95 beds) and we were full earlier this week with people lined up in the ED/ER to be admitted! And now my boss (VP!) tells me that she thinks she's coming down with the flu that her family had last weekend - and she did NOT get a free flu shot earlier this fall! I got my flu shot, but if I get the flu (from her), I will be mightly upset!
