Who are you/did you remember today?

I remembered Kim (RIP 5/1/09) today :sad1:

I remembered my uncle who was in the service for years, he recently died :sad1:

and my papa and uncles who were in the service and are still alive (thank god)

I remember all the service men and women who risk their lives for our country.
I also remember my dad who has been deceased since i was little, even though he wasn't a veteran

Meg, Memorial Day is supposed to be for remembering veterans who died. :)

I don't have anyone to remember, personally. Thankfully, all the veterans I know are still alive and well.

i didn't have anybody to remember individually.

memorial day is to remember the men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country.

we did have a cook-out lunch though. it was yummy.

I have a (possibly stupid) question.
What's the significance of the date for Memorial day?

In Canada we have Rememberance Day (we don't get the day off though, usually there are assembly's in school & a moment of silence is held etc.) it's on Nov 11 which was the last day of WWI.
So I was just wondering what the significance of the date in May was?
Or is it just a random day chosen for celebrating veterans & their memory.

Caitlin, there's no specific day, it's just the last Monday in May. IDK why it's that way - Thanksgiving is like that too, it's on the last Thursday in November every year.

I remembered all our men and women in the armed forces fighting for our freedom, and those who've perished in doing so.

My friend's brother who was killed in an attack in Iraq, 2 summers ago. Very very tragic.

I thought of everyone, every man and women who have fought, who are still, and who have died. I even thought of my older brother and my grandpa.
