Have not been back to Uni since 2012, but have a firm trip planned for this November. That means Transformers, Gringott's, the entire Potter London scene, Hogwart's express, and now Kong will be new to us for this next trip. Not to forget: a totally revamped Hulk, and a ton of new restaurants at City Walk.

Think of that - five major attractions in four years we have never seen. Based on this alone, I cannot believe some people continue to think of Universal as just a day or two added on to their "Disney" (constant waiting/planning) vacation - it clearly has become a destination of its own these days.

And don't forget about the two new hotel properties (Cabana and Sapphire) I've never seen, and the new Volcano Bay water park soon to launch. Now I hear Uni has a huge new real estate plot to play with, the agreement with Nintendo that has yet to be finalized into new attractions, the new Jimmy Fallon replacement for Twister, whatever is going into the Beetlejuice space as well as the Disaster space - the future is even more intriguing considering the possibilities.

Yes, a great time to be a Universal Studios fan right now . . .

Love it! So much easier to go with no real planning necessary. We were there for a week in January so I bought APs. Last time we were there was 2012 so Diagon Alley was all new to us. I am now planning a trip for December and looking forward to Skull Island. We are a 50-ish couple with no kids so it really suits us better than mouse town.

cbsnyber1, can't believe it has been since 2012 since you were last there.

you are going to have a GREAT vacation and so much to look forward to!!!

We were there in early 2013 and we're going back this June. We share the SAME excitement. We missed the Transformers opening by weeks (but got to meet Bumblebee which was AWESOME!!!). We're doing Disney first....but Santa brought us Flex Passes this year, I firmly believe we will have more fun at Universal, IOA, Sea World, and Bush Gardens than we will in the World. I can hardly wait!!!!

onenursebrandy, it is exciting that you are going to see it all in orlando!
4 great places to visit and have fun at...
lucky ducky!

I totally agree. Universal has been amazing these past years and the future is so bright. With new hotels and the very likely rumour of a 3rd gate, we're very lucky!

I suppose if you only visit a place every 4 years then you will get a lot of new to you attractions each trip, no matter which park you visit

What's new in Disney? I'm going in October and thought only thing that seem to have changed atm was the new mine ride that I haven't seen yet.

If you need info on Disney updates in the park, try the theme park strategy forum

It is located on the Disney side of the disboards

You'll get better answers there than on the darkside forums

LoL, it's actually the second quickest we've returned to the parks. Did Disney in 1986, then 1992 (also first visit to Universal), then 1999 (equal split between Universal and Disney), next in 2009 (all Universal), and finally in 2012 (all Universal except for MVMCP). Early in this date sequence Disney added the then MGM studios followed later by Animal Kingdom (never been there), but then it seemed to stop major development until recently. Animal Kingdom opened in 1998 - really not many major changes after that until the MK expansion that gave us the Mine Train, among other stuff.

What's interesting is that, in the Universal Studios side, only ET and the Horror Makeup show remain from the original lineup that was there in 1990. That's a lot of change in 26 years. Throw in the fact that Islands opened in 1999, Harry Potter in 2010, and you can see the the scale of change at Universal in the past 17 years alone. Compare that to the change at Disney during the same time frame - I think they closed more things than they opened since AK came on board (at least until the recent MK expansion). Epcot is a shell of what it was back in the 1990's.

I like both Disney and Universal. It's just that Uni suits us better these days - far less hassle to organize a trip, much more relaxing, easier to get around (important for us older folks), and more "adult" appeal overall.

Mac - I've been thinking of this trip SINCE 2012. Finally talked the Mrs. into going back - she's not a huge theme park fan. Had a hard time getting her to Kalahari this past winter - you know, to sit around in a hot tub all day, not exactly strenuous (but those $25 drinks the size of a basketball did help).

Fast and Furious is going where Beetlejuice was, the teaser graffiti on the walls just went up recently.
