Hello-

Like many who have come back to the “lite” side of things as the new year starts, so do I. I haven’t posted here since early November. At that point, I had just snagged my 15 pound clippie, but frankly, I felt really tapped out. Then I went on a business trip for 10 days to the Middle East. I was stressed out to some degree the whole time I was there, what with being a blonde American woman in a strange land (yes, I stood out just a little). When I got back to Japan, I just didn’t get back into the swing of things. The (American) holidays came and I was without family here, so that was pretty depressing. Lots of good excuses/reasons, huh?

Alas, a good American friend here (who’s also dealing with weight issues) gave me Dr. Phil’s book for Christmas. Now, I can’t say I follow everything he says, but his line that always hits me where it counts is, “so, how’s that working for you?” I started asking myself that as I was munching on not-so-healthy treats a few times. So, how’s this working for me? How’s this helping me with my long-term strategy to be healthy? How’s this working to help me make healthy lifestyle changes? It isn’t! So as the calendar rolled over, I recommitted to making it work for me.

I’ve also come to realize that I’ve used my working and living abroad in Japan as a good hideout. I have no people (family, friends) from my past seeing my failures here. I haven’t had to be too accountable to anyone for my actions (with the exception of the WISH gang). But I’m taking home leave and going back to the US in June for an extended stay (no, not enough time for a WDW visit, however). I want to feel good when I get home. I want to be able to run with my niece and nephew and have the energy to do things. So now I have a time window to get things in order. I have a schedule and a plan now, and some urgency. It is rather motivating.

So I’m back. I’ve readjusted my clippie to reflect where I’m at today. I also found weekly check-ins high pressure for me. While I ate good and did exercise on my way to my 15 pound clippie last fall, I found it stressful to report in on a weekly basis (I know, my own self imposed requirement). So I’ll check in with my progress at my own pace this time.

It’s good to be back! I miss your support and hope to be able to support you as you’ve done for me. Happy New Year to all!

Welcome Back, Califlady!
I always enjoy reading your posts and hearing small tidbits about Japan. You are certainly brave to live alone in foreign land! I don't think I could do it! You are starting the new year smaller than last year, and that is SUCCESS! June will definitely find a smaller you. I can hear the determination and wisdom in your words! and :wizard: to get you off to a great start! I hope that works for you. :)

Welcome Back!!! :wave2:

You are certainly not alone in coming back to WISH here in the last week or so. Many of us (including me) took some time off and found ourselves slipping. However the good news is that we are BACK!! Yes we have found our way back and we are not giving up. That is a success in itself.

Good luck in your continued journey! I hope to see you around here more. :)

Hi Renee! I am SO happy to see you here on WISH again. We all go through our down times, and I for one know, that living overseas away from your family and friends is hard. The great thing is we have Internet and we have a place like WISH to come to for support, motivation and inspiration. If you need an ear, I am here and if I can help you in anyway don't hesitate to ask.

How exciting for you to be going back to the US this summer, that is definitely something to look forward to and a great motivator for getting in shape! Together we can do this, ONWARD and DOWNWARD my friend!!

Hi Califlady and welcome back to WISH :wave2: Going back to the US for the summer is a great incentive to help you stay OP. Here's some PD :wizard: to help you over the first few days. Good luck, I know that you can do it :hyper:

Welcome back, sweetie. I've missed you bunches.

Welcome Back CALIFLADY! I missed your posts and am glad to see you are back!
