It's going to be a scorcher ....

Several folks mentioned taking wash cloths to dampen and put on your neck or bath your face. Has anyone tried this with a bandana and did it work as well? I was thinking I could tie a bandana around the strap of my bag so it would be handy when I needed it (no digging in my bag) and that it wouldn't be as heavy when wet as a wash cloth would be. I just don't know if it would do as much good as a wash cloth - never tried it before.

I've seen a lot of people use bandanas. You can wet it and leave it tied on your neck. Just make sure it's not a new one so it's not scratchy.

Just wondering where you read the heat index would be so high. I was nervous reading this post since we leave in 14 days and it will only get hotter as the summer goes on. I checked some weather sites today and it does say 90s expected, but I didn't find anything that says an index over 100.

A hat index over 100 is ok. Around 115 it gets ugly.

But remember, that high is for the middle of the day. You could be asleep in your airconditioned room, or in the pool, or scientifically taste testing tequila during that hot part.

Let me tell you it was so stinking hot down here today that even we (locals) were commenting on it - the kind of day as soon as you step outside the sun immediately starts to sizzle your skin, and right now at 2AM it's still 81 degrees outside.

When I went to the grocery today I saw a bunch of tourist lobsters, sunburned to the point where they could hardly walk down the aisles. PLEASE everyone, remember to bring some major sunscreen with you and reapply it often. If you do choose to use wet cloths on your head and neck, make sure they don't take off your sunscreen and you get a nasty sunburn that can ruin your trip. :grouphug:

Absolutely agree --- I was at Epcot - just sitting in the shade - and I about melted. Like it or not, summer is here. (FYI: I don't like it)

I just had to say that the picture in your siggy is just ADORABLE!!!!! That is so cute:cloud9:

for our trip in 10 days:scared:Now I know June is hot (we go every June) but temps that feel like 105....I am going to melt:scared1:Iy reminds me of Aug. I take a shower, get dressed, step outside and I take another shower in the heat and humidity. So.....

What are your best stay cool tips?

We went in August a couple of years back and it was in the 100's as well. A few things that help...wear light colored, cool clothing. Drink lots of water. Take chewing gum with you, chewing on it helped keep me hydrated. I wasn't in favor of the mister fans, they just made me feel even stickier, but by all means, give it a try. Have fun!

Also look at this:

heat index today is 103

Scroll down--parts of Orlando are at 116.

I'm personally accustomed to it, living where I do.

We just returned from our May/June trip. The thing that worked the best for me was Black Ice. It's a neck wrap system that stays at 56 degrees for an hour, then you switch ice packs to have continual cooling all day. We carried a small cooler with us stocked with ice, and changed it out all day. I loved it! Do a search for "Black Ice Cooling."

What else we did:

Toured in the mornings and evenings
Drank tons of water - (with a bonus tour of every Park restroom!) :rotfl2:
Showered and changed clothes twice a day
Lots of sunscreen
Frozen Drinks
Hat and sunglasses

Enjoy your trip!

I agree w/ change of outfits. We're doing the same. Our plan is to go back to our resort EVERY day, for the most hot hours, 12-4. Shower, change into a new outfit, and head out for dinner ressies. Do the park after dinner...

Try taking a hand towel and putting ice in and place it on top of your head. This really seems to cool me down. DW, is jealous she really like the heat and humidity but that is even too much for her.

Has anyone used those instant ice packs that are normally used for first aid? I just saw a case of them online (125) for $62. I wonder how long they stay cold.

This is my plan. DH thinks I should bring one outfit for each day. I told him he will be sitting by himself at dinner if he doesn't rinse off and put on a dry(non-sweaty) shirt. The thought of putting my dirty park clothes on after an afternoon dip in the pool makes me cringe.

Somewhere I read to bring a clean pair of socks with you to the parks and change mid-day. Might feel refreshing after standing in line.

We have gone the last four years in September. Everytime it has been above 95 with 95 percent humidity. We go for 10 days. We pack enough outfits for 6 but we change shirts and undergarments when we go back to the hotel to cool off. This makes a world of different for how you feel when you leave the hotel to go to dinner/parks for the evening. We then do laundry while we take advantage of the pool about every three afternoons, sharing gets it done and it is no big deal

thanks for the info. on the weather sites. I had not seen "really feels like" on the ones I had checked. My MIL and SIL will be so unhappy. My family will tolerate the heat as we were there in June 2 years ago and loved it, but I don't think it was that hot. We love the afternoon swims, naps and warm eveinings in the parks. However, my SIL and MIL will be with us this time and have already stated how they hope it won't be too hot...............ugh!!!

And remember, any day at DisneyWorld is better than a day at work! Besides, its not that bad, most of the lines are covered or indoors where fans and AC work to bring the temps down. Add to that the time you spend on the rides or shops and you spend less time outside than you may have thought. Drink plenty of water and hit POTC & HM several times for extended periods of relief.

Subbing in as we leave two weeks from today :) We will be there at this time  So I am interested in the answers. We were there last August and it was HOT :crazy2: But the worst was the humidity  Thanks for the thread!

14 more days until Port Orleans French Quarter :yay: :yay: :yay:

We were just there for a week and the weather the last 4 days was brutal...mid 90's, no rain and the sun was killing me. Drink lots of water, wear a brimmed hat, wear tank tops, sunscreen, buy one of those water bottle fans and get into every ac show you can!
