I have to admit .. we chickened out !! Initially we wanted to go to MK. Then read that MK would be a zoo and Epcot would be "calmer". OK, so Epcot it is. And then about three weeks ago yep we chickened out again!!!!
The perspective of getting to a park early in the morning and not leaving until 1am, spending a good part of that time in elbow-to-elbow crowd just freaked us out I guess. Plus, just a couple days later, Epcot will have morning EMH so we will enjoy it better then.

So what we're gonna do is go to AK during the day, since it will be the less crowded park, then we have an ADR at Yacht Club Galley (only place we could get - all Epcot restaurants are booked as well as Chef Mickey, O'hana,Boma AND Kona!!! At least that's what the gal on the phone told me.) After that we will walk over to Epcot and see if it's possible to get in to see the late fireworks. Pretty unlikely, but it's worth giving it a try. And if we cant.. oh, well, it's only fireworks. Who knows, after 5 days at WDW maybe we'll be sick to death of fireworks by then.

What are your plans??

We arrive late afternoon Dec 30(staying offsite first night, we always do) Going to Magic Kingdom to see the NYE fireworks

we plan on checking in early @ Pop Century and then heading over to Epcot, all day. (we had ADRs for Japan for dinner, but gave them up) After the midnight fireworks, if we're not tired over to MGM for a couple rides and then off to bed.

Last year, I remember hearing that Epcot filled at about 6pm and then I remember it getting really crowded at MGM which filled at 10pm.

If you've never been to Disney during NYE I would sugguest either Magic Kingdom or MGM. Epcot is Illuminations(can be seen every night of the year) with some extras thrown in.
MGM has an extreme 360degree show. Magic Kingdom has Fantasy in the sky.

We'll be spending NYE day at Animal Kingdom. We've done this twice before on NYE, and while the walkways were crowded, the ride lines were very reasonable. After AK we'll be heading to Boma for a relaxing dinner, followed by a fairly early night.

Don't feel bad for chickening out. We were at MK two years ago and it was a complete zoo from about noon on. At 10:00 pm or so after battling the crowds all day and having a very sleep 5yo, we packed it up and headed back to the hotel.

This year we'll be at AK during the day and hoping on our plane home around 7:00 pm that evening! If weather and transfers are cooperative, we should be getting into our house just about midnight, spending the first day of the new year downloading pictures, transfering vacation video, and planning our 3-week June/July trip!

We'll be hanging out at SSR & I'll watch a football game :happytv: - no interest in fighting the crowds and my "stay up and count it down" days are over :) . We have early ressies at Crystal Palace in MK on 1/1 - great way to start the new year!!

We've done MK on NYE several times. We were last there 2 years ago (04/05). While it is a complete and total zoo, we are the weirdos that look forward to it!!! We will arrive at opening and ride until the lines get long. We have ADRs for Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner and the rest of the time, we will people watch, shop a bit, snack, watch parades, do a few fast passes and just enjoy the day! My kids are 15 and 18 so we no longer have the "sleepy child" syndrome - although we did it when my kids were about 2 and 5 also!!!

One thing we will change this year - In the past, following fireworks, we have always gone with the crowd out to the busses. In 04/05, we waited well over an hour for the Pop Century bus. This year we'll be at CSR. This year, following fireworks, we're going to go against the crowd and head for some rides! The park is open until about 3am so we might as well do something instead of fighting the crowd headed for the exit and wait for busses! I know we'll be tired but we'd be tired if we were waiting in a bus line or riding Space Mountain! I'd rather be tired riding some rides!

We leave for home on the 1st so the 31st will be our last night for this trip and it may be quite a while before our next one. We're hoping for a trip to Europe in 08.

Have fun all of you NYEers no matter how you are celebrating!!!

i'll be on a cruise :) then disney world a few days later! hopefully all the new years crowds will be gone by then!

Looks like there'll be a lot of DISers at AK on NYE! I need to get myself something limey.

Still not sure about this one. We are staying at the Dolphin (so we don't have to use buses) and we were originally going to go to Epcot and had ADR's for Rose and Crown for the British New Year at 7pm and illuminations which I cancelled.

I am now leaving that day open. We will have been up late the night before from seeing the MK fireworks on the 30th. There is no way I am spending the whole day from start to finish in a park (me and DH would just end up cranky doing this) and because of this I accept that I may not be in a park for midnight but we will be able to see fireworks from the Boardwalk area anyway.

We may go to Animal Kingdom for a time (like all the other people on here!), we have an early evening ADR at the Flying Fish and then we might take the boat over to MGM and see if we can get in, if not it's not the end of the world and we will walk back or take the boat back to the Boardwalk.

Then again when the day comes we may do something different.

Looking forward to it whatever

This is our first NYE at WDW! We are so excited but keep changing our minds on what to do. I know MK is out! As much as we love Disney we get crowd cranky! I will keep checking here to see what my fellow Disers are doing and hoping for more tips from the seasoned Disney NYE people. Can't wait!

We're spending most of the day at Epcot, getting there early and then staying for our 5:10 reservations at Coral Reef (Which I'm SO EXCITED that I got! :cheer2: ) before heading out. We'll then head to one of a few places. Back to the room, depending on if we can see any MGM or Pleasure Island fireworks at Midnight from our room, cause let's face it, fireworks are high in the air! ;) or to MGM to catch their fireworks since I've read they close to capacity later than the other parks. If neither of these work we may just go resort hoping since it's my boyfriend's first time at Disney and end up on Poly beach for a spectatular fireworks show! :thumbsup2

We'll be at home recovering from our trip (returning 12/25). Last year we met the neighbors in the middle of the street and drank champagne out of the bottles! :rotfl:

We'll be at WDW too for the first time at a busy holiday like Christmas & NYears. I want to do MK just because of the amazing fireworks but I know we'd have to be there early and stay the day. Traveling with ds 5 & dd 4 might be close to impossible.

Anyway, where outside the parks could we see fireworks? Thanks for any advice on that option!

December 31st is my 21st birthday. :) During the day we'll just hang around the pool or go to Downtown Disney and do some shopping. We have dinner reservations at Citrico's. Then we are going to try to get into MGM to see the fireworks. If we can't get in, no big deal, but I thought it would be fun since they don't usually have fireworks there.

I wish everyone a very Happy 2007 pixiedust:

I will be recovering from teenagers and :santa:
and
dreaming :teleport: of our Easter 2007 WDW adventure :)

We did Epcot last year and had a blast!! We got there around 1pm and although it was crowded, it was such a great atmosphere, you almost didn't mind all the people!

Hopefully this New Years I will be at the hospital in labor! I am due Jan. 1st but we will be very happy to have her before the 1st!!

Have a great time everyone!!!

We are arriving around 11 am on the 31st of Dec... we'll staying at CS for the first night, so we'll be enjoying the resort and then go to Downtown for our 6:30 pm adr at :goodvibes Rainforest café, then we'll just walk around DTD and go to bed early, since we were all up at the crack of dawn to catch our plane ha! but that's ok, since we'll be in MK early on the 1st.... Can't wait, and hope to see some of you on my vacation.

kerrynic78, wish the best with your new baby... Happy New year :goodvibes
