Bad News: Ankle is fractured
Good News: at his age, this kind of fracture is usually only casted for 3 weeks, bad news is we go next week, lol

He did get a walking cast though so he is thrilled about that. He told us to come back in 2 weeks but when I told the Doc that we were off to Orlando next week, he scheduled us back the day before we go and he said they'll have a good look and see if he could possibly do without, IF its healed, IF he uses crutches/wheelchair and IF he can put weight on it with little pain....alot of IF's, lol but he said he loved DW so IF they can possibly take it off, they will....great Doc. :) But I rather it stay on if theres any chance of him rehurting it.

I called Busch Gardens to day and they couldn't answer me about the rides, all I got was to go to Customer Relations when we get to the park, sheeeeeeeesh, thanks Busch.

I want to thank you for all your help with this, you've all been so great! Its soooooo appreciated. :worship:

I know a ride op on the Montu coaster at Busch gardens. I'll see what I can find out.

Geez, I hope everything works out. It does seem, though, that with or without the cast, if he can hobble on the ride (at Universal at least) he's good to go. I personally have never seen someone in a cast turned away from any coaster, including the ones at Cedar Point in Ohio, and they are obssessed with safety.

And, for what it's worth, back in the day when I ran a coaster our policy was if you can get to the train, you can ride. Of course, that was so long ago the park doesn't even exist anymore ...

Last summer my son broke his hand in a baseball game (he is the catcher). It had to be casted. We were due to leave for a week long tournament in Cooperstown NY (Baseball Hall of Fame land) in 3 weeks following the injury. Our doc was super too! He really looked him over and took additional xrays. He was able to take the cast off and allowed him to play in Cooperstown. He wasn't able to be the catcher, but just the thrill of playing there was an experience I didn't want him to miss!

Have a great trip ~ whatever your outcome!!

Phamton, did you get a chance to talk to your friend yet? I emailed Busch and they basically said he would not be allowed on any of the big coasters and of course, I already bought the tickets.

thanks

I emailed him and he hasn't answered yet. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help.

You've been a great help already, thanks. Maybe we'll go on a cool day so he can wear his baggy jeans and they may not even notice, lol.

thanks :)

my daughter (6 at the time) was able to ride Universal rides with an arm cast. However, there was a sign stating casted riders could not ride at DD and Hulk (If I remember correctly).

She wasn't at that height requirement so it wasnt a big deal.

Check out this thread about hard casts. http://www.thrillnetwork.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-29640.html

Apparently, the reasoning is for the safety of other riders. It mentions that you are not allowed to ride at Busch Gardens if you are in a cast because a rider was once hurt from the cast of another rider.

Good thread, Damo, thanks. I googled like crazy and this one didn't come up. Not sure how you could hit someone else with a legcast though but ......

All the "G-force" talk got me a bit worried, will talk to his orthopedist on Monday about it for sure even IF (big big IF, lol) the cast comes off.

Thanks Cindy, seems they still allow it (maybe depends on the CM, lol)

Anyways, thanks for the help.

If you are casted you can't ride the large coasters. This is a manufacturers rule. They feel that if you have a broken limb and have a hard cast on that you can do further damage to yourself and then possibly sue them and the park. The park has no option but to follow the rules that B&M has set. BG has a couple of there coasters along with 1 at seaworld and both of the coasters in IOA.

Hmmm. I've never heard that about casts and B&M coasters. But lets assume its true - I have seen riders with casts more than once on Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and on both B&M's at Cedar Point. And, as I alluded to above, I cannot imagine Cedar Point, with their well-deserved reputation for over-zealousness with respect to rules/safety, ignoring a manufacturer's edict. But, hey, ya never know.

More importantly, it seems casted patrons have rode IOA's coasters in the past, so perhaps the rules aren't hard and fast. It does seem to me that if you can ride Dueling Dragons with a prosthetic leg, you should be able to get on with a cast - which is certainly less likely to fly off than the fake leg ...

You can ride Dueling Dragons and Hulk at IoA with a hard leg cast as long as it bends at the knee. You can't ride if you have a hard arm cast though.

I just got back from Islands on Tuesday and I was with a person with a leg cast and she was turned away from both DD and the Hulk. Although I seen someone with a wrist cast riding the Hulk so I don't know.

It really depends on the ride op that deals with the person. I've seen it in writing in the SOP book that is provided by B&M. I know a couple of people that are ops on Kraken and one on both Hulk and DD.

If the leg cast goes passed the knee they can't ride. If it doesn't bend you can't get on. You also have to be able to get on the ride by yourself. If is is a walking cast that goes below the knee then you can ride. This is information comes directly from a lead at Hulk.

What about a wrist cast?

If it is a wrap and not a hard cast, you can ride with a wrist cast. No hard arm casts are allowed on the ride so you don't hit someone with your arm.
