I have walked around and shopped--but what good excursions are there?
Trying to decide if I really want to take this cruise or not...

A lot of people just treat Nassau as a day at sea -- they don't get off the ship because there's so much more to do on the ship than there is in Nassau.

Atlantis is a draw for people who like waterslides.

What kind of things are you interested in? You might just take a look at the port excursion page for Nassau and see what's there. There's very active outdoorsy things like fishing or snorkeling, there's historical tours both by vehicle and walking, there's a chocolate tour, a food tour, a cigar tour and you can spend the day at the beautiful Greycliff hotel. With resort for a day you can spend the day at the colonial Hilton. There are boat trips out to several private islands, or you could charter a boat.

Atlantis or an excursion booked through DCL.

Otherwise we stay on the boat. Nassau feels safer now than it has in previous years but this is still a port I would only book excursions through Disney for. I've heard some horror stories about the independent excursion companies/independent transportation options and just won't risk it.

We recently did the Discover Atlantis Tour (N05) and really enjoyed it. The pace was great for those with little ones or with mobility issues, gave you a great tour of Atlantis and allowed for quite a bit of free time for you to explore the property afterwards. Once the tour is over you have the option to take the shuttle back to the ship immediately or you can choose to stay at Atlantis and take a later shuttle.

We were there last fall and I happened to notice on google earth what looked to be a pool at the Margaritaville on Paradise Island. We took the ferry over - which is a nice little tour of the harbour - and walked to the restaurant which is basically right next to the terminal. It has a nice pool literally inside the restaurant which you can set up at a table and have a swim (works really well with kids). Just can't have your drink in or right next to the pool (but tables very close). Day we were there it was us and another family of 4 - had pool to ourselves. The staff don't rush you as the place isn't very busy during the day. We really enjoyed. Plus Junkaroo Beach frankly is pretty good if you just want to walk from the ship and hang out

We did a glass bottom boat tour when we stopped on in Nassau our RC cruise (planned excursion through RC). Four adults, four kids in party (kids 9, 6, 4 and 15 mos) and it was an easy excursion (not far from port, walked through busy market but that was it). Went to a nice restaurant after for local food - Lukka Kairi was the name. We we there mid/late afternoon so perfectly kid friendly, not too busy and we enjoyed it. My BIL got a reco from someone on ship because he really wanted conch chowder. It was quite good and very close to port/where glass boat tour was too. We walked back to port and purchased souvenirs in the market.

Walk to the Fish Fry area with lots of great restaurants. Can stop off at the small beach on the way!

We treat it as a sea day. (Hubby convinced me to get off for 5 minutes - we made a quick U-Turn).

We just took our first cruise in September and were underwhelmed at the excursion offerings. We got off the ship and wandered on our own for an nhour or two - then just headed back to the ship to enjoy our time there. A few rides on the aquaduck and some adult beverages and the Satellite pool worked much better for us. ;)

I recommend Ardastra gardens. It's a very short cab ride or you can walk to it. We booked it through Disney and I wouldn't do that again as it was way over priced but. It was small enough that it didn't consume the day, large enough to give us a bit of time on the island. It was family friendly and beautiful.

We get off the ship and visit Pirate Repiblic Brwwing for a few beers. After that we get back on the ship for lunch and hang out in the pool.
