Hi all

After a break from the boards for almost a year, the planning hat is well and truely on for our trip next year so I thought I would ask a few questions

We are travelling in Aug and at the moment I am looking at OKW or SSR to take advantage of the free dining and room discount. I have stayed in a 1 bed at OKW but can anybody give me their opinion on the studios at both resorts.

In the past I have booked both DIY and through Virgin holidays (this year I was quoted £5742.25 for 16 nights in POR - thats more than £1700 than I paid last year and that includes my discount :scared1) VH has lost another customer.

Anyway its nice to be back and if anybody can offer any suggestions it would be great to hear from you - also interested if anybody has found some good sites for flights as they are looking extortionate at the moment

We have stayed in a studio at OKW for the past 2 Augusts and more than likely booking again for next August. We prefer to be offsite but the free dining is too good an offer to resist.
Same as you going to book seperate, I got a quote from VH yesterday:
For 21 nights next August, 3 of us, after discounts £7649.17
This is before adding car hire or tickets.

Can book hotel seperate for £2,268 that leaves £5,381 they are charging for flights or £1,794 per person in economy

No idea where VH are getting their prices from. Flight only is not cheap but £1,800pp is crazy.
We ended up going Delta Biz class again this year, £1,170pp, felt it was better value than Virgin economy.

Anyway back to the studio, I can't compare to SSR or 1 bed but its more than adequate for 3 of us, they are going thru a refurb of all the rooms so maybe even better next year.

We also stayed in a studio at OKW this August, and it was certainly big enough for the three of us (including DD aged 12).

The free Dining Plan here is a great bonus given that you get the Table Service meal each day for the same price (or less) than a moderate resort. Although we did eat in some of the more expensive restaurants that we maybe wouldn't have used had we been paying OOP, we "spent" in the region of $1,800 over our 13 days at Disney. I'm still looking to start the diet (again!!).

The only suggestions I have for flights is to maybe register with the usual airlines (Continental, BA, US, VA, Delta etc) for their special offers, and also set up a flight notification at Kayak for your required dates. As Wayne notes, flights for next year are still at a high price, and TBH we were lucky this year to grab flights to Miami in the AA sale. Here's hoping they will have a sale again (think it was around November 2009 for August this year).

I'm still looking to start the diet (again!!).

Not by yourself on that one, I am determined to get on the Harry Potter ride next year, I was so close this time, just couldn't make the final click needed Although that was in the 1st few days of the trip, after 21 days of free DDP I would have probably struggled to make the 1st click.
