It's been a good day except someone hit my car!

I've been out happily shopping for things just for me, something I haven't done in about a year. I've been to two malls, Target, and WalMart. As I was pulling out of WalMart I noticed a note on my windshield. I pulled back in to the parking space and retrieved the note.

Someone hit my car! He left his name, telephone number, and drivers license number. Sure enough the front bumper on the passenger side has some paint scraped off and the bumper seems to be a bit further away from the car than it used to be. It doesn't appear to be too awful, and DH will probably decide to just let it go. Should I call the guy and let him know not to worry? Or should I not call and hope he's worrying--just because he hit my car. :teeth:

Seriously, would you call him?

How nice that he actually left the information! Most people would just have driven away.

If you aren't going to do anything, I'd call him and thank him for being so honest and then tell him you are just going to leave it.

It's nice to hear there are still honest people in the world! :flower:

I think you are pretty lucky that the driver left his name and number. I was side swipped in a parking lot one time, close to $1000., in damage and no one in sight.

I would call, because I'd want my car fixed! That's what insurance is for. ;)

If the damage is low enough in $$$, then you could also give hime the option of just paying for the repairs directly, rather than getting the insurance companies involved, his rates would go up if a claim is filed against his policy. I did that for the guy that rear-ended me. It was about $700 in damage, so he just wrote me a check. Had we filed with insurance, his rates would have skyrocketed, and he would have paid more in the long run.

I think it's awesome he was decent enough to leave information, that's pretty rare. Because of that, I'd call immediately and thank him and tell him you'll get back to him about the repair, but that things don't look bad.

My 19 year old son was getting out of his truck at a grocery store near his college, and a wind gust (approx 40-50 miles per hour that day) caught his door, which swung open and hit the car next to it, denting her door. He waited for the lady who owned the car to come out of the store and told her what happened. He told her he would pay for it, and she told him that she didn't want his insurance information since his rates would go up, so she got three estimates and he went with her to the shop with the lowest one. It ended up costing him $450, and I told him I would try to split it with him though we are on a tight budget. He feels badly about it, but I told him that he did the right thing, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I would call the gentleman and let him know - otherwise, he would worry.

::yes::

I would call him and thank him for leaving the info. I am just going through a problem with a neighbor, I backed into her SUV with my van at @ 1-2 miles an hour, no damage to any of the cars or passengers. She told me not to worry about it and we both went home. Little that I knew when she got home she tried to file a police report on me but luckily the police couldn't do it because they had not been called to the scene. That same day she started complaning about neck/ shoulder and arms pain because when I backed into her " I threw her all over the place" . How can I throw anyone all over the place at 1-2 miles an hour when I only backed up for 2' at the most?
I am letting the insurance company investigate on this , and I spoke to them. This woman has a metal plate on her neck from another accident two years ago and she has consistently been complaining of neck problems even prior to the "incident" , so my insurance company requested to have all her medical records released to them and as of today they still didn't get anything. This is also the same woman who sued her father because she fell on the stairs at his house and the insurance company would only pay for medical bills but not compensation. So, if she sued her father, how could she not sue me?
But she needs to prove that I actually caused what she claims, and we all believe it's going to be a bit hard.

Whatever you decide to do I would definately call. Most people would just thank their lucky stars to be able to get away with it, but this person was actually honest! That he owned up to it is great!
