It's almost Pumpkin Time

While it may not feel like fall. It's fast approaching. It's time to think about decorating the yard.

I usually decorate the yard myself but last year all my grandchildren came over for the day and we had a decorating party. It was such a hit that we are doing it again.

Every year I add to the Halloween decorations.

We decorate the inside and the outside, have pizza, cider, make cookies, candied apples and Halloween lollipops.

Last year we had a gingerbread house decorating party. The kids did such a great job and were so proud of their houses. I pre-made all the houses and we decorated them. This year for Halloween we are adding an additional day. We are having pumpkin carving day. The kids love these days and look forward to them, so don't I.

Do you have any special things you do to prepare for this fun day? Do you decorate? If so what do you do? Do you decorate your pumpkins, do you paint them, or carve them?

I LOVE decorating for Halloween and fall!! We have lots of decorations for inside and out - always growing as yours are. We use lots of hay bales (which I then use to cover my perennial beds) and corn stalks (my squirrels love em!) I saw the neatest idea on Matha Stewart rolleyes: ) - instead of carving a pumpkin, you drill lots of little holes in it, and stick white Christmas lights thru from the inside - kind of a Lite-Brite effect. I can't wait to try it!

Oh, I almost forgot. Ever since I can remember, we always roast the pumpkin seeds for a snack. Yummy!

Thanks Mamu! I think my grandkids would love your ideas. Sounds like you go all out for Halloween. I would especially like to do the pumpkin carving with our little ones after a day at the local Cider mill.

DH & I have always made a big deal about Halloween and fall. Our first date was a costume party. He was a gangster and I was his maul, sp?
The kids have gotten into the spirit too over the years and enjoy decorating with our weird ever growing collection. They still jump when the motion sensor talking head says" Happy Halloween"

So far we have quite a few pumpkins waiting to be carved and more still in the garden waiting to ripen. Great idea about the little lights.

I just wish the weather would get a little cooler.
