This day is not going as planned. I was doing laundry and accidentally knocked a full container of liquid laundry detergent onto the tile floor. It splashed and created about a six foot size circle of detergent. I cleaned it up and I have diluted it down with a ton of water about eight times, but there is still a film of soap on the floor, not to mention it is slick like an ice skating rink. To add injury to the insult I dropped my cell phone into a sink full of water and it is no longer working, so I can't call for backup. So does anyone has any idea how to get laundry detergent film off the floor?

Bumping- Sorry, no solution here. Just wanted to tell you I hope your day gets better!

I wouldnt do anyhting, just live with sticky feet (thats sticky, not stinky)

just keep putting water on it, maybe add a bit of bleach to the mop water, take the battery out of your cell and use your hair dryer to dry it out, try not to get the hair dryer close enough to melt anything, sorry you are having such a bad day, maybe it will get better

Honestly, no clue. But, you could maybe try vinegar or alcohol. Good luck and be careful. :sunny:

Not really sure that this will work, but do you have some baking soda? It's relatively benign & won't hurt the floor's finish, but might take the soap film off. The only other thing I can think of is to use that Easy-Off/scrubbing bubbles/soap-scum remover that most folks use for bathtub tiles.

Good luck,
agnes!

Ah, crap! On second thought, maybe not. :rotfl2:

My first thought was ice skates, but that's probably not the help you are looking for!

I would use paper towels to get as much up and how about window cleaner to cut through the detergent? What a mess!

Maybe your cell will work when it dries out. Don't try to turn it on until it's totally dry (probably too late for that advice). One time I dropped mine in a glass of iced tea when driving. Who knew that cell phones don't get thirsty? :confused3 :lmao: I turned it on right away and the phone never did work after that.

I found a similar question online. Basically you just keep rinsing and rinsing until there are no more bubbles.

Here's the site I found it at.

Detergent Spill

Hope the rest of your day turns out better. :grouphug:

I think that's a great idea! Have a few beers and then you won't care about your floor! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: Just kidding, I was on the same track with the Windex suggestion. :teeth:

I would try baking soda or cat litter on it. It should absorb most of the liquid up, then you can scoop it up. Then you'll need to mop it a couple of times.

As for your cell phone, do a google search on it. I know someone on another board just got their phone wet a couple weeks ago. She did a google and it told her how to dry it in the oven. It did work when she was done. :lol

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm out of paper towels, bath towels, dish towels- etc. So I think I'll let the floor dry and try again in an hour. This is what I get for doing laundry :rotfl2: .

Don't give up on the phone yet. My real estate agent dropped hers in a lake while standing on the dock. They were able to fish it out, took it apart and let it dry (definitely get the batteries out), and it worked fine.

Dont add any more cleaner. You are just going need to keep at it with plain water and lots of cloths the good news is when you go to wash them you wont need to add more detergent :)

Hope your day gets better :)

I don't have a clue how to get it up ... but let me help you feel better. ;)

Last week I was about to stain a new bedroom door off my living room and I kicked over 2/3's of a gallon of golden oak wood stain into my THICK burgandy carpet. TOTAL NIGHTMARE !! :scared1: Now the hard wood floor underneath can only soak up just so much stain.... the padding under the carpet worked like a sponge radiating outward with the excess... and when you step on it??? ..... well ... are you getting a picture here? :sad2:

in case, you're wondering... I did get most of it out. I have my own carpet machine and I sucked up on this 4 foot square for 2 days ....

but I don't want to see the hard wood underneath

And you must be my long lost sister b/c yesterday... I dropped my MP3 player into the swimming pool... it was in there 1/2 hour before I noticed it .... its not just the player... I can buy a new one ..... but I had a 150 songs on there

yea, I'm laughing now ... but I wasn't than :rolleyes1

Now... do you feel better ? :teeth:

Maybe this will help you feel a little better about your day...

Have you ever witnessed a dog sneezing and vomiting at the same time? Neither had I until I was just about to walk out the door this morning. Gave him his treat, heard an odd noise and YUCK! FYI it isn't quite like projectile vomit; it has more of a spray effect. I'm pretty sure he was turning his head while he did it, too.

We all have days like this...but eventually the soap will come off the floor (bleach would have been so much worse). I also suggest the vinegar thing...and cold water not hot.

DH did the cell phone in the lake thing the other week.

But first he went in with his brand new (two days) glasses with the fancy clip on sunglasses on...they came off in a wave. Some how DH steps on them and DS manages to dive down and get them both...everyone is just standing there going how lucky is that and DH says ohoh..(I'm thinking what are they scratched or something) and he says oh honey sorry my cell phone is in my pocket. I'm say so go back to the picnic table if you need to call someone then...and he says no this pocket. URGH....my brother took it all apart back at our place and dried it off with qtips and it mostly works. (can't change the volume much and the battery doesn't last as long but still pretty darn good for a phone that went swimming).

Can't help you with the floor but I can help with the cell phone. Remove the battery immediately, if you haven't already. Let it dry for at least 2 days, until you see no more moisture in the window or screen at all. If it isn't humid out, let it stay outside in the sun. If it is humid, keep it inside. When all traces of moisture are gone, put the battery back in and recharge. I have rescued all of the cell phones that have taken a dive. That would be 3...with one twice. :rotfl:

I don't suppose there's any possibility of that working with an mp3 player :rolleyes2

I did drop my cell phone into a bowl of cheerios once :rotfl2: and it did start to work again the next day :thumbsup2

I buy that Tide in the big 300 ounce container. Once the button got stuck and I didn't notice until 3 hours later when the container was half empty and it was drizzling out all over the floor!!

I mopped it up and then sprayed Scrub Free on the remainder and put a bath towel over the residue for a couple days. The towel absorbed the remainder of the mess and the floor was very clean!!! :cool1:
