I was just on the official Disney site and noticed this update:

it's a small world" will not be operating June 7, 2004 - March 18, 2005, however we recommend Pirates of the Caribbean as an alternative during this time.

This may be old news, I don't usually pay attention to the closures until closer to trip time, however because this is such a long one, I was wondering if anyone knows if this is just a major refurbishment, or a major change??

we just returned from WDW yesterday, and we were told that the entire sound system is going to be updated.

There's more information on the rumors and news board, but if memory serves....

They're going to update sound and lighting system, repair and refurbish the dolls and their costumes, clean the track mechanism (involving draining the entire attraction), and there's major structural damage on the roof that needs to be repaired.

It's pretty extensive, and as much as I'll miss it on my honeymoon, it DESPERATELY needs it. The ride is falling apart.

What SnackyStacky says, will miss it on both trips this year but looking forward to seeing it rehabed to Disney standards on future trips.::yes:: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :wave2:

I too will miss It's a Small World during our June trip but I understand that a refurb is badly needed! Oh well, just another reason to visit again when it re-opens!

I didn't realize the dates were official now, thanks for the update.
