A few years ago I attended Microsoft's TechEd conference in Boston. TechEd has about 10-12,000 people every year. This particular year I was scheduled for a week in Boston, then meet the family in Baltimore and drive to WDW for a week, then to a weekend cruise on
Royal Caribbean.
The final day of the conference I am at breakfast with my friend Jim and this young man sits down across the table from us and cracks out a book and starts studying while he was eating. I asked him if he was taking a Microsoft Certification test that day, and he told me he was, but that he was having trouble with a few concepts. Now, Jim and I are both Microsoft Certified Trainers (Jim teaches Developers, I teach Server/Workstation IT Pro classes) so I offered to help the young man, whose name happened to be James. Jim left to head to the airport and James and I sat at the breakfast table and I spent the next hour going over some of the finer points of the Domain Name System with him. James left to take his exam, and I went off to attend a few more sessions before heading to the airport for my flight to Baltimore.
SWMBO and the kids picked me up at BWI that evening. We spent the night at DSIL's house in Glen Burnie, then headed South the next day (Saturday). We had a great week at WDW, and Friday morning, headed to Port Canaveral for our cruise.
The last night of the cruise, I am in the casino with my wife, when who walks in but James and his fiance. First thing I said to him was, "How did you do on the test?"
He was absolutely shocked. He pointed at me and said to his fiance, "This is the guy!! This is the guy who taught me DNS before my test." He passed, and now works as a Microsoft Certified Trainer in the Philadelphia area. I have since seen him at three other Microsoft conferences.
