The calendar shows refurbishments through January 25th and the removal of the Small World overlay still hasn't made it on there. Isn't it usually down by then?!

Hmm...maybe it does. And if so, I hope that means it will reopen before our last day! (February 10th.)

The removal of the IaSW overlay doesn't normally start until the Haunted Mansion has come back up. This year, the calendar is showing the HMH will last longer than normal. It usually closes as soon as the holiday season ends, but this year, it's still on the calendar for an additional weekend (holiday season ends on 1/6, but the HM isn't slated to go down until 1/12). The refurbishment calendar on Disneyland.com indicates that it'll re-open on 1/23 (Friday). Small World is slated to go down the next Monday (1/26). Historically, it's down for about 18-days for removal of the overlay, which has it re-opening somewhere around mid-February.

Just lovely. Yet another ride down. I expect some closures during February but this is just getting ridiculous.

beginning to think i picked a really bad time to spend over $6000 on a holiday  with any luck, it may open before we leave on the 12th of Feb

I think it all depends on the attitude you take with you on the trip. It's been fairly well discussed on this board that more rides than normal are likely to be down the first part of 2015 in advance of the 60th anniversary and January and Feburary are normally the time when a lot of refurbs happen. So sadly, if you plan to go in winter, refurbishments are something you just have to accept as part of the schedule. I know it's tough (I've been on a big vacation to WDW when major rides were down and it's disappointing, but it's not worth ruining your vacation over it). So all that being said, while IaSW is likely to be down slightly later into February than normal, there will still be plenty of attractions and entertainment being offered.

It is fine to say that for seasoned visitors OR those who only booked a few weeks ago.

Coming from Australia and booking way back in May this yr for a first ever trip, I never thought for a moment about refurbishments.

If I had any thought that this many closures would be happening, I would have booked another time, unfortunately, it will cost a small fortune to totally change my holiday time.

I have had many ppl tell me of what are "must do/must see" things and WOC, Fireworks are things I really wanted to see, but they will both not be on whilst I am there.

My father has always talked about Its a small world, when he talks of his trips to Disneyland, this is the only ride he mentions constantly, I wanted to experience that.

I know I can't let these closures ruin my trip, honestly I am trying not to, but it is so hard not to focus on them, we may never get back again, it isn't like we live in the USA and it is just a short trip back.

Sometimes things happen and you can't control them, doesn't mean you have to be happy about them.

I mentioned that I've been in the same boat for trips planned to WDW, which are across the country for me (so also not cheap and not a short flight) and require booking well in advance (9 months minimum). Same for a trip to Europe and DLP. So I didn't say what I did just because I'm a "seasoned visitor"...I am sorry that some of the rides and shows you wanted to experience the most will be down.

Again, I'm sorry that you are disappointed, but even if DL doesn't announce their schedule in advance and there are more than normal scheduled, winter is a common refurbishment time for DLR because it's after the holiday season and before Spring Break. Sadly, I can see where folks might not think of this when they book trips.

I can see where that is tough, but look on the positive side: F! is running nightly...

There isn't much that can be done because DL has never released their operating calendars in advance. Maybe IaSW will re-open early. I understand that you're sad about the possibility of the closure, but unfortunately February is always a dicey time for IaSW because of the holiday overlay removal and they've recently been coupling longer refurbishments with the removal of the overlay.

All I can say is go with a positive attitude and hope for the best...

When I booked back in May this yr, It never crossed my mind at all about closures or refurbishments. We booked for February, due to being able to spend 2 weeks in USA compared to 1 week at another time, due to flights being half the price in February.

We are hoping to be able to see Fantasmic, we are considering a dinner package, just don't know what one to pick and what times will suit us, so we are going to book that when we arrive.

We have other things planned, not just Disneyland, so we have other things to look forward to as well as Disneyland.

Trying to stay positive, but it is hard, as this trip is a graduation gift to my daughter and I feel I have let her down.

I concur that waiting (at this point) is probably the best bet. The entire F! FP/Dining Package offerings are new and so much is in flux. Hopefully they'll get things figured out before Christmas, but I would hope that things stabilize before you go.

Stay positive! There is still a ton of things to do at DLR that are a lot of fun. Lots of attractions and shows that are amazing. February is often a time with lower crowds, so you should be able to get a lot done.

We've gone during this time of year and we always expect some things to be down. But even with the 60th coming up, we didn't expect them to close everything at once. Normally they would stagger things a bit better.

I think we all have the right to be upset. Especially those who spent a lot of money and maybe it's a once in a lifetime thing.

Thankfully, I know we'll be back. But it sucks because this is my son's first trip and the only time he'll be thing young. I know that when we go back he'll be older and appreciate things more. But I was just really looking forward to seeing his face on Small World. Really that and the train are what I'm most annoyed about. And Pooh if it doesnt reopen on time.

Here's January 26th....ridiculous.

It won't ever stabilize, the area is not designed to handle this type of setup and to be blunt, it will never work well.

"Slower" time doesn't really mean much these days. Especially with short park hours. And less rides and restaurants open.

I get that you're upset, I really do, but I don't think it's as bad as it looks on paper.

In DLR, a lot of it is centered around Splash Mountain. Basically it looks like Critter Country is going down. I'm wondering if something is happening that requires a lot work in that area because all attractions, shops, and dining locations in Critter Country are listed as closed.

Critter Country Closures:
Splash Mountain
Winnie the Pooh
Railroad - Goes through Splash Mountain, so I'm guessing it's closure is related.
Canoes - Boards in Critter Country; also it tends to run on a reduced schedule a lot of the year.
The Briar Patch - This is a shop
Photographic Art Studio - This is the shop at the end of Splash Mtn
Pooh Corner - Another shop
Hungry Bear - A CS location

The three non-Critter Country related closures are:
It's Small World - It starts later than year, so will probably not re-open at the same time as last year, but it was typically closed until the start of March in many years in the past (2011-2013).
Matterhorn Bobsleds - This is a long closure (until May, tentatively) so I'm guessing major work is going to be done.
Enchanted Chamber - This is a shop in Fantasyland, the Frozen merchandise they sell there is available in plenty of other locations around the park.

Over in DCA, the big closures you have listed are Soarin' and Grizzly River Run. The other venues are mostly shops and dining locations (CS).

The vast majority of the rides will be open during your scheduled trip if this refurbishment schedule holds. Things always chance, so there is a chance things will re-open early or that the refurbishments will start at a different point in time.

To be fair, I have to admit that the closure of certain shops or dining locations haven't really ever crossed my mind as being all that upsetting. I understand how closures of certain attractions can be difficult to accept, but for shop and dining locations there always seems to be plenty of alternatives that the loss of one or two has never really seemed that bad. Especially the shops because Disney seems to make sure the merchandise is available at other locations.

The only Disney character my son is aware of is Winnie the Pooh. So Critter country being closed really sucks.

And multiple restaurants being down and shops being closed basically means less places for people to be spread around to. Same with multiple rides. It really makes crowds seem a bit worse than they otherwise would.

That's find and dandy that you don't care but I think we have every right be annoyed. I am holding out hope for a ticket deal like the last time we went.

None of this will ruin my trip, by any means. But like I said, I am still annoyed.

Now wait...I never said I didn't care, I simply said that it hadn't crossed my mind that shops and dining location closures would be that big of an issue. That is markedly different from saying I don't care. I also said that I understand that attraction closures can be upsetting. I'm just trying to put it all in perspective. I'm sorry that you don't see it that way.

We had more closures last spring than the current list. I'm disappointed about IASW...again...0 for 2 stings...but we'll still have a fab time. :)
