;)

All of the coins pulled out of all of the water rides, fountains, wishing wells, and other locations at WDW go to charity. They are cleaned, sorted, bagged and deposited, and checks are sent to several charities that benefit children. Most notable among the charities are Give Kids the World, Make a Wish and Children's Miracle Network.

Thanks to this thread, I shall now sing the theme to "DuckTales" for the remainder of the day.

"Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg..."

Hate to gross anyone out, but when we talked to our WDW tour guide a few years ago, he said when they clean the water and remove the coins- they have to be very careful as many people choose to have their ashes spread in IASW and they try to be respectful.

Gives new meaning to keeping hands and arms in the vehicle.:scared1:

Pretty sure I won't be doing a hand dunk in the water ever again. :rotfl:

Exactly what can they do "to be very careful"?

As a CM at Small World I can tell you that during renovations the money is collected and sorted. The money that has rusted or is not reconcilable is tossed out, the OK coins are donated to charities (Namely UNICEF the charity the original Small World at the 1964 worlds fair was built for).

I personally think the money should go to the CM's that have to work Small World and have that song so stuck in their head over and over and over and over......:headache:

I don't even think US coins rust, except for maybe old coins that had iron in them. Anyone know for sure?

This is the coin-counting operation, photo obtained by Bothan spies on a Keys to the Kingdom Tour:

how many of the said spies died to bring us this information?

What does Disney do with all the money that is thrown into the water?

I'm hoping they donate it or something of the like.

Anyone know?
I found that Disney closes down the ride to update it and than they drain the water and sweep up the coins. Most of the time, the money has been damaged by the water and is turned into scrap metal. BUT if the money is good to use they donate it to children charities or wildlife foundations. I hope I helped. :D

Some people before they die ask if their ashes can be thrown from some places (like the dumbo ride for example) and as respect Disney will do what they say... just a bit gross but they are ashes... also Disney cleans the park 24/7 so I wouldn't be terribly grossed out

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that disney does not allow ashes or remains to be thrown anywhere at disney. However, I also heard there were no security cameras in IASW so I would imagine it would be easy to do without anyone knowing....

I highly doubt that human remains can be spread anywhere on Disney property. It's very tricky legally where you can spread ashes. Can you imagine if Disney allowed everyone to do that? Disgusting! We'd be ankle deep in human remains dust....

Over the years, we have been told by more then 1 CM and have seen signs, here and there, that wherever coins are tossed in the water, during usual maintenance shut downs, the money is collected and given to various charities.
