GKTW has a limited amount of bungalows and when they have more need than capacity Disney will let the family stay on-site for fee.
A family that cannot afford a $100 camera cannot afford a $100 PP.
I know that GKTW has items they can borrow. Many companies donate food and items to GKTW. Many of the organizations that send the family to Disney with money too.
So you think it would be okay for the families that are "overflow" from GKTW to get the discount, and not the others?
My other issue is OP mentioned that Disney sends photopass photogs to GKTW to take pics, but doesn't offer them a discount? Why bother. To me, this is Disney trying to make money from people in a precarious situation. It's one thing for the photogs to be in the parks, but to actually send one to GKTW and then hold those pics for a price?![]()
Someone can always buy on picture. Or take their own. It isn't rocket science.
Wow, read your signature lately?
Huh? You always have the option of purchasing just a photo. And I believe the photopass pics suck anyway. So buy the one you like, get a cheap digital and take 1000 photos. We did.
What is your issue?
I personally like how everyone assumes a wish family is able to afford a fancy digital camera to take all these wonderful pictures themselves. The medical bills that families have are sometimes unbelievable. Most of them are unable to go to Disney on their own and don't have disposable income to purchase their own camera. I don't think the issue is getting the PhotoPass for free, but just a little discount. Like was mentioned previously, you don't have a choice about where to stay so staying on property isn't an option. Why not give it at the on-site rate. If the cost is $149, many wish families are going to opt to not purchase it at all. If they do, that's possibly one less thing the wish child gets to do. For many families, this is a once in a lifetime trip and may be the last as a family.
My issue isn't your opinion or your suggestions -- it's your comment "It isn't rocket science." Not sure if this was meant to imply that the parents of these kids are stupid or me, but either way, it really wasn't necessary.
Does anyone really know that Disney isn't going to give the photopass as a discount? Disney does so much for these charities that no one ever knows about. I imagine it wouldn't be advertised because of scammers wanting something of the same.
I know how important pictures are. I truly do understand that. I also know that while pictures are great, nothing is better than the memory etched in your brain and heart forever after something magical happens whether at disney world in your backyard.
I also get that some people might not understand how to use or a digital camera for whatever reason or even purchase it but there is always the simple disposable cameras. I can't imagine that every single family all through the other years could afford the previous price whatever it was.
I've always heard the expression "don't bite the hand that feeds you." This might be a good example. I've no doubt that there is or will be a plan in place to help these families and calling them out publicly won't help the cause. There is a such thing as asking too much over and over from the same people.
Also, perhaps there were too many people cheating the system with all the photopass shares. This could be WDW's way of helping to reduce that.

There are hundreds maybe thousands of families with young children and a dying parent out there.
They get no wish trip, they get no special treatment and maybe its there one and last trip together.
They manage also and if nor staying on site there no special photo pass for them. Thats also not fair but they deal with it.
Wish families get a lot for free and asking this on a public board is way over the top
Sorry OP but I don't agree with you on this.
I think there should be perks to staying on-site. Photopass photographers and many other CMs will take your picture for you with your camera.
Also, perhaps there were too many people cheating the system with all the photopass shares. This could be WDW's way of helping to reduce that.
I think this was probably one of the bigger motivating factors in this change..
Which was also NOT discouraged by the DIS. I guess as long as members of the Board are getting something for nothing it's okay, but not anyone else.![]()
And there are special needs children who take at least as much work an equipment to carry around. Life is hard for far too many.
Sorry I forget to mention them. Of course the deserve the same treatment as many of these parents also struggle, shrimp and save for this once in a life event.
