September 6th - R.I.P. Banana Butterscotch Buzz Buzz Buzz
Today was the day I discovered that my favorite dessert in all the World is no more. Let’s have a moment of silence for the Pinnacle of Dessert Perfection, the Banana Butterscotch Buzz Buzz Buzz. Strangely named dessert of cool dreamy butterscotch brulee nestled on perfectly crispy thin pastry layers with caramelized bananas of succulent sweetness all around, I will dream of you often. I am normally a no holds barred chocolate kind of girl, but this luscious concoction was was the Supreme Being from the Dessert Planet.
When I awoke in my little tropical room, I didn’t know there would be sadness at day’s end. I woke up somewhat reluctantly (did I go to bed early enough last night - of course not!) but was able to accept the prompt of the alarm after a few snooze cycles. I only needed coffee this morning because I was off for early morning breakfast with Pooh and Co. Stacy kept me company after I checked in with the weather watching channel to see if any of the chain of brewing churning hurricanes was showing signs of coming this way.
The storms of yesterday had been replaced by clear blue skies. I made my warm and sunny way over to the TTC, walked in from my super close parking place and took the resort monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. It was just before 8 am when I arrived. I didn’t know about early morning breakfast at the Crystal Palace until last year when I took the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. We started out on our tour before park opening and when I realized you could make a breakfast reservation and enjoy early morning park whenever you wanted, I got on my phone right then and made several reservations for that very week.
It’s great to get a chance to wander Main Street and the hub in the beautiful light and take pictures of a relatively (sometimes absolutely) unpopulated scene. I checked out the special Halloween touches, took pictures in the hub, admired the Castle and then went over and checked in for breakfast.
There’s usually a bit of wait from check in to seating here, so I found a bench in the sun and relaxed. When Winnie the Pooh and friends had my table ready I went inside to score cheesy potatoes, Puffed French Toast, fruit, smoked salmon, bacon, sausage, pastries and biscuits, not to mention the fuzzy love of a few good characters.
Well and truly full of breakfast delights, I didn’t hurry right out at park opening. My experience at the party last night had been the satisfying doing of many things with no waiting so I felt I could be more leisurely today. I meandered over to Adventureland first and signed up for a bad joke laden trip on the rivers of the world. Jungle Cruise is one of those rides that I won’t wait very long for, but love for its cheesy ridiculousness and also because I remember being thrilled by the exotic travel when I was a child, especially the elephants that might squirt the boat. We had an exceptionally skilled skipper, and returned safely despite the many dangers encountered along the way (including the bad jokes).
I walked past Pirates and bypassed Splash Mountain for now, not being ready for potential dousing. Boat after boat came down the hill empty. If the park wasn’t also empty it might have been an ominous sign. Thunder Mountain seemed like a good way to continue my morning, so went over to yee-haw my way through the Wil-derness.
There were so few people in the queue that the cast members were just letting people choose where they wanted to sit. I headed into the station and was starting to go to the back of the train when my new destiny as roller coaster security blanket called again. A preteen girl saw me coming and said, “Oh good! You can ride with me!” She was near the front of the train, but I figured destiny was destiny so I joined her. Her name was Megan and she was anxious. She was also celebrating her 12th birthday. She chattered about the ride and then we settled ourselves in the car when the train pulled in.
She put her fingers in her ears for the ascent up the bat cave and then held tight to the lap bar for swooping and descending. She was full of nervousness and also was made more worried by the noise in the uphill threatening to collapse tunnel. As the very end of the ride she told me how scared she had been to try it. When we got out of our train she took off running to meet her family in the watching/waiting area outside and as I passed her she was exclaiming, “I did it, I did it!” Good for you, Megan the birthday girl!
I'm glad to have been your CSB.
I went around and rode one more time (still no line), in the back and by myself. There were crowds of people in dream ears leaving the Splash Mountain area as I passed by on my way to the wooden walkway along the water to Liberty Square. I figured the Haunted Mansion would be easy later when other things had gotten more crowded so passed through to Fantasyland. I never tire of going off to Neverland, so I flew with Peter and Tinkerbell. Winnie the Pooh was next on my list, partly because it was getting close to 10:30 and there often seems to be dream activity in that location at that time. Sure enough, after a lovely ride through a stormy day in the 100 Acre Wood the Dream Squad was at the exit, looking at their watches. I ran around and jumped back on (still still no line) and when I came to the exit, they were handing out Dream Fastpasses. I did a happy dance of joy to thank them and then headed on to Tomorrowland.
I rode Buzz several times in a row but had fallen under a spell of super low scores so gave up and was walking back toward the hub when I noticed that the Laugh Floor was about to start a show so decided to give it a try. I found it amusing last time I was here, and liked the funny displays in the lobby.
I sat up in the back thinking that it would keep me out of range for inadvertent participation, but that turned out to be oh so wrong. I was genuinely startled when a CM with a microphone materialized at my side and my image jumped up on the big screen for all to see. My monster was the mind reading act and my job was to pick a number, say it out loud while he covered his eyes and then beam the number to him with my mind while making funny noises and doing silly things with my hands. It was harmlessly fun and did make it a memorable show for me. And besides, I'm cool - I've got this:
I retreated to the safe darkness of a Doom Buggy after that and enjoyed the cool spookiness of the HM. On my must do list for this trip was The Hall of Presidents, an attraction I had never seen. It was time for a long cool break anyway, and the next show time was close, so I went in and checked out the presidential artifacts until show time. This is another one of the attractions that calls to mind the wonder of my adult family when they first saw a Disney creation, in this case Mr. Lincoln. They could not get over how real he looked and kept talking about how amazing it was. I have to confess I spent a lot of time checking out the President's costumes.
