iTouch + best router, oh my.

now how does this work? and what do I get?

DD14 got the ipod touch. Had trouble synching, but got that fixed. Now I guess we really need a router so she can utilize it fully?

What kind do I get? We have an HP computer with Windows vista. Our service is through Verizon. Hoping this thing isn't going to cost me a small fortune, it was an expensive year this year!

Also, DS12, wants to connect his PS3 to the internet, and he's talking ethernet cable, but I believe a router is needed for this as well. Will the PS3 and itouch both work off the same router?

It was so much easier when they were little.

your DS should not need a ethernet to connect if you get a router he should be able to connect wirelessly. For him to use the ethernet cable with the router and the PS3 the router would have to be in the same room with the PS3.

all wireless devices will work off the same router

Ok, if I'm reading this right, the ethernet cables "wire" him into the computer, and the router is wireless?

You just need to get a wireless router. You hook the router up to your modem. Then you can use your PS3, the itouch and a laptop wirelessly.

I have 2 laptops, a PS3, wii, roku (netflix instant view), and DH's iphone connected to my router wirelessly and a printer connected to the router by an ethernet cable.

When Verizon hooked up our Fios they gave us a router as part of our set-up. This was over a year ago. Maybe start with Verizon and see if you can get a good price.

I know you said you have verizon for you internet, how many computers do you have hooked up to the internet now?

My brother uses Apple Airport Extreme but he has several devices. According to one of the PC magazines, the Linksys by Cisco was easy to install for novices like me. We only have one PC and 2 iTouch. Still trying to decide which to get though.

that would be suggestion also. We have ATT and the router I got through them is better than the one I bought.

Do a search and see which routers verizon offers and search for reviews on them and get them to give you the best one.

The first one we got from ATT was crap.

You just need to get a wireless router. You hook the router up to your modem. Then you can use your PS3, the itouch and a laptop wirelessly.

Our router is also our modem. I have had it both ways and prefer the router and modem in one unit.

I bought an Apple AirPort Base Station refurbished from Apple's website for about $129. Used that with my Comcast cable modem and it works like a dream! DD10's iPod Touch works great with it as does the other gadgets (MacMini, iPhone, PC laptop, Samsung Plasma TV, Samsung Blu-Ray, Wii). It was astoundingly easy to set up!

You can use a Linksys too but even a tech geek like myself prefers the Apple Base Station.

We only have one PC, and will have the iTouch and PS3. Also, I'm looking for something under $50, which is what I was told originally when considering the iTouch.

Wow, after hunting around the Verizon website, I see the Westall 327W modem is also a router and is ethernet and wireless capable.

Now, I don't know exactly what that means or what to do with it. I will call Verizon and see what they have to say. That would be nice not to have to buy one!

A router means it can 'route' the Internet 'signal' to more than one destination. Ethernet is basically a 'wired' connection to the internet (there are about 3 - 4 in the back of this modem). Wireless-capable means it can transmit a wireless internet signal as well. You set it up with password (which by default should be printed on the bottom of your modem) so only authorized peope/devices can get to it.
