Italy~ Perillo tours info/help

My dh & I want to celebrate our 50 th birthday's and our friends want to celebrate their 25 th wedding anniversary so the six of us want to go to Italy they mentioned taking a perillo tour? Has anyone ever taken a tour with them we are thinking of going early september or early october of this year. If anyone knows of another operator other than perillo tours please let me know!

I have taken a Perillo tour. We went to Italy and Switzerland. I think it was a great tour company but there were a lot of extra tours that you can buy from them once you arrive. We went on all the extra tours so it was $$$. We saw so much and I think it is the way to go if you really want to see it all. It is not a relaxing vacation at all. There is a lot of walking and you have to be up and packed very early in the morning when it is time to move to the next location of the tour. We had a really good time and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to go. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

You can go to a website like http://www.affordabletours.com/ and see what else is available. You need to learn how to read an itinerary. "You will see" means the driver will slow down and your guide will describe it as you drive by. "You will visit" may mean you're on your own. Words like you'll tour means you'll actually be taking a tour.

Last time I checked Perillo includes more meals then most of the other tours Perillo also includes wine with your dinner.

Trafaglar and Insight are two other tour operators to check.

The cheaper tours don't offer much more the transportation and lodging. The more expensive ones also include some tours. The more expensive tours include lodging close (within walking distance) of the sites. The cheaper tours including housing in the outskirts of the city.

This is the budget board. You can check tours like Gate1 and Cosmos. The base price is lower but you'll be paying for more as you go.

When I toured with Perillo the morning tours were included. Afternoons we weren't traveling the tours were optional (extra cost). Most people took most of them. I think some of the tours that were optional for us are now included.

The better and more expensive tours, will have you staying on the main island of Venice. The cheaper tours make Venice a day trip, have you stay on the mainland or one of the other islands.

This is good info. We stayed in the heart of it all when we went. Everything was in walking distance for the most part.

Perillo offers a tour without food. Having visited Italy on our own vs our best friends doing a Perillo tour, I recommend eating on your own and experiencing better food. Italy is very easy to navigate on your own but if you want the structure of group travel, Perillo at least offers the option to opt out of group travel food.

We spent 2 weeks there and the best part was all of the wonderful restaurants. I would have hated to have done group dining at preset tourist places. Our friends were disappointed with Perillo food.

The Perillo food is fine, not exceptional. The OP is going with friends. Included meals makes it easier to budget.

Many of the tours include almost all the breakfasts and about half the dinners. That gives you a chance to try out some local restaurants.

My parents used Perillo years ago for both s northern and then a southern Italy trip. They had nothing but praises at the time. It was easy to have it all planned out for them. They traveled with a group of friends. Years later returning more than once, on their own to "see it" a bit slower placed on their time and their choices. They were always more than satisfied with the Perillo accommodations and the food. They thought that like everything else, you get what you pay for....You can get a trip for less but really read/know what exactly is included and what the accommodations/food options are.

I did a Globus tour of Italy with oldest dd when she graduated from high school. Had a lot of free time to wander the cities, stayed 2 nights right ON the grand canal in Venice ... it was great. So great, in fact, I did same tour 2years later with 2nd dd. My sister is doing the same this summer with my niece.....
