We are leaving for Italy in a week for our first ABD. Everyone says "Don't overpack." I would appreciate any tips on what we need and must have. What can we do without. Anything is fair game here. Clothes, bathing suits, cameras, electronics, adapters..............

Your favorite brand of " Sun Tan Lotion ( Cream ) " ....... Why.... because .. you might have no time to go shopping

and your favorite " brand " may not be available in Italy.

Ditto. Shampoo

Put in a spare set of Sunglasses ..........

We did this trip in June. The hotels will have all of the soap and shampoo that you need.

Must haves: sunscreen and sunglasses, Chargers and charging cords, a plug/outlet adapter (I didn't see US plugs in our hotel rooms), something waterproof to put your bags/souvenirs in during the boat ride on Capri, swim mask or goggles (for Capri), comfy shoes. The mask/goggles was the one thing I didn't bring that I wished I had.

None of the dinners are particularly dressy, so you don't need any special clothes. Pompeii is very dusty, so you might want to dress accordingly that day.

We didn't get caught in the rain, but the guides did have ponchos (so no need to pack rain gear).

If I think of anything else, I'll post again, but we packed really light. Shorts/skirts and tees, no pants or jackets necessary. You might want to pack a sweater or cardigan. Shoulders must be covered to go in the Basilica in Pisa.

Conditioner. I never had a problem finding shampoo at European hotels, but conditioner was another story entirely...

Sunscreen.

Swimwear. Hat. A sweater, maybe. Don't take too many pairs of shoes, b/c those are heavy in your suitcase.

Phone. Cords. Adaptor plus for your electronics.

We did this area DIY. Other items that might help are water shoes if you go to the beach. The beaches there are rocky, not sandy. Good shoes for walking. Pompeii has some uneven cobbled roads, as do many hamlets, etc. Cool clothes with layers, it was hot there, but often cooled off at night. Willpower. I joked I came home pregnant with a baby named "pasta."
