I generally avoid Italian restaurants with my parents because they are both from Italy and, although they do not realize it, have a very specific idea of what "Italian Food" should be. I, however, enjoy most (well prepared) Italian cuisine and so made reservations for all of us at Tutto Italia, with my parent's consent, of course. I've looked at the menus and the food choices appeal to me and should appeal to my parents. I've also read other posts which is why I wanted to try this restaurant.

Now the big question ... how do you think a couple of Italians will like Tutto Italia?

Not sure about tutto, but have you considered Via Napoli? some of their pizza ingredients come straight from italy!! Cant get more italian that that. :) I heard their pasta is devine as well.

Should be interesting since Italy, like every other country has diversified regional cuisine.

Hey they can always take it up with the waiters since they all are from Italy. I think they'll like that aspect of Tutto.

I'm Italian and I enjoyed eating at Tutto. I think your parents will have fun speaking with the staff, since they are all from Italy. That was a lot of fun for me.

They will have a blast speaking with the staff as they did when Alfredo's was there. The problem is that they didn't care for the food at Alfredo's and I was hoping for a different experience at Tutto Italia.

Speak Italian to the staff and you will be treated like family. That alone will make up for any perceived deficiency your parents find with the food, assuming that they find any at all. And the food is a big step up from Alfredo's.

I would suggest Il Mulino at the Swan instead.

I hope you get more replies to this thread, as I was wondering the same thing! Also being from the "real Jersey shore" myself, I am finicky about my Italian food! I also cook my own, so I can be pretty picky! LOL! :rotfl:

I didn't think the food at Tutto was anything like the meals I had in Italy, which is quite different from American Italian cuisine. I've thought the same thing about the other Epcot restaurants for the countries I have visited.

That doesn't mean your parents can't enjoy it. However, if they go in expecting the food to taste like what they ate in a hometown trattoria in Italy, they are going to be disappointed.

It's hard to match the food in Italy to the food here (different available ingredients, etc.) and they don't expect that - but there is Italian food that is so commercialized in some restaurants that they can't really enjoy it. The ingredients aren't fresh, etc.

We've eaten at both restaurants in epcot, mama melrose in hs and tony's town square in mk... I would not return to any of these. In my opinion they taste about as authentically Italian as the Olive Garden. And I am not a picky eater....

Eta: I have heard il mulino is fabulous and if it's anything like the one here in NYC, I would go there!!!!

My husband was born and grew up in Italy until he came here. His mother was an excellent cook. With that in mind I will say both Italian restaurants are very good. I've eaten at Mama Melrose and Olive Garden and there is no comparison. I would highly recommend either place.

FYI - Nothing like the Il Mulino in NYC. Il Mulino, Orlando is a Trattoria not an old world restaurant. Food is much more 'casual'. We still love it and consider it one of our favorites in the Disney complex.

Generally, the restaurants around World Showcase have been somewhat "Americanized" to appeal to a broader guest base. In some cases, there was pretty close to authentic with a few American items for those who wanted that and in others the whole menu was toned down a bit. I'm finding recent changes have made it more of a guessing game, even when it comes to American cuisine.
