We just decided to have Thanks Giving with my Daughter and her family in Longwood. I'm Italian and would love to get something to make it more a traditional diner. I've been told forget getting good Italian bread south of Jersey. We are staying at POP and have a car (Booked with Kathy, forgot to say thanks). I'm hoping to whip up an Antipasto. Does anyone know a good Italian Deli?
About 10 years ago when she move to Orlando I made a 5 course eat all day diner on the Wednesday before Thanks Giving for her and 5 other Cast Member. They had to work on Thanks Giving. I found all the ingredients at Publics. This year I don't have the time and I'm hoping for a pre-made dish I can kick up a knock.

Maybe the place the team likes for bagels would make a good bread.
I do not remember the name of the place, someone will chime in.

You are welcome. :) You could pick up a lot of the fix'ens at Whole Foods.

For bread I think I would just smuggle a loaf or two from Buono's on the plane. Although years ago when I lived in the area there was a small Italian restaurant that made their own Italian Bread and it was excellent -it was either in Longwood or Altamonte Springs. It's probably long gone by now.

:thumbsup2Thank you all so much. If you are ever in RI and want the name of any place that has anything to do with food I'm your Man. :thumbsup2

Federal Hill or as my Mom always said "Federial Heights" Di Pasquale Sq., Cafe Dolce Vita, Joe Marzelli's Old Canteen. Check out this link.http://fedhillrestaurants.com/default.aspx
This past summer I was getting some cold drinks at Leaping Horse Libations. One of the GM's jumped in to help out (he was lost behind a bar). Well he asked where we hailed from. When I mentioned RI he lit up. It seem he graduated from Johnson & Wales University. One of the first things he asked about was THE HILL. We've e-mailed each other and he plans on having diner with us next time he's in town.
If you are ever driving on 95 in Providence and see the exit for Atwells Ave take it head west (Left if heading north, Right is traveling south). Pass under the Pine Cone (a good luck charm) park anywhere you can and don't worry if you've picked a good place, they are all great. No need to worry if it's a Deli (Venda) or a bakery or up scale or a family place. They are all the cream of the crop. If you have read this far you can tell I have a passion for quality food. Not always fine dining. We just came home from 5-Guys great burgers and fries.
I can't end this unless I give a nod to some other area's for great food; Newport, Watch Hill (Ocean House), East Greenwich, Pt Jude. (Aunt Carries' Clam Shack), Knightville (Cranston, this is where the Italian immigrants kids moved to), Bristol, Warren, Lincoln, Jamestown. I think it snack time.

Back from my snack, check out this link http://www.vendaravioli.com/default.asp. If you go on a Saturday take someone with you. One of you get in line to pay while the other shops. By the time you're done shopping you're at the front of the check out line. Don't tell anyone about this tip.

Great posts Joe. I'm actually quite familiar with RI and know many of the places you describe. You're absolutely right; those places are great and Federal Hill is one of the best Italian neighborhoods in the country.

If you're driving, I would take a cooler filled with ingredients. We used to do this all the time when we spent Thanksgiving with our relatives in Virginia.

Sorry it took so long to say thanks. Pettys' was great. Just 2 miles from my daughter home. We had a wonderful Thanks Giving with a little Italian flair. Thanks again and a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you & yours.:santa:
