Wowza, what a movie! Pennywise was scary & brilliant! Everyone I knew was too frightened to go, so I brought Lotso for company. That poor bear absorbed so many screams!! I don't really watch scary movies any more, but I show up for Stephen King. The banter amongst the kids was really funny, and Thank Goodness the movie wasn't hokey.

As an aside, does anyone else think Beverly looks like Amy Adams, and Patrick Hockstetter looks like Adam Driver?

We were supposed to see it yesterday, but plans changed and we went to DGD's school for grandparents day.
Hope to make it next Friday. We just rewatched the older version

Someone in our town put on facebook that they would deliver red balloons to the front of homes of friends as they were watching the movie for $5.
That's awesome:rotfl2:

I saw a couple red balloons tied to gutter drains around town yesterday.

I'm not so good with scary movies anymore, so I'm saving this one for when I can watch at home with the lights on.

I saw it last night. I really enjoyed it. I read the book ages ago. I thought that the movie was really well done and followed the book really well. Like other Stephen King tales, this one is not a traditional slasher story, so if you are expecting something like "Saw," then you will be disappointed. It scared me for sure just like reading the book many years ago scared me. What I really love about Stephen King's novels is that there is usually more than 1 plot or theme going on and this movie version of it captured that pretty well, in my opinion.

I TOTALLY thought that Patrick Hockstetter looked like Adam Driver!

I've read some not so glowing reviews, which is disappointing but predictable. There's only been one Stephen King adaptation that has lived up to the novel (in my opinion).

Plus, I've read the movie has a ton of jump scares and I HATE that..especially in a dark theatre. I'm being talked into going to see it with my husband, brother, and his girlfriend. I made my brother promise he'll come check my closet after the movie lol

It has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. About as good as it gets.

DH and I really liked it. The cast were great.
In addition to the "lookalikes" mentioned already. DH thought the bully looked like a young Kevin Bacon. :)

We described it as "creepy" scary. DH said it literally raised the hair on his arms a time or two.
As someone who does NOT like the Saw-style movies, this was my kind of movie.
We also liked the slight time "shift" in the movie, it allowed for a lot of references/music/jokes we enjoyed. We felt like the time period was aimed directly at our age group (who may be the target audience since we all watched the first movie in our youth).

Yes. I kept thinking "ah so this is Kylo Ren's backstory"
I thought the movie was fantastic. It was that creepy, suspenseful scary, not slasher or torture scary.
I like that they made it the 80s instead of the 50s. That's probably so the second movie will take place now. It also takes advantage of the 80s nostalgia thing that's popular now.

There are some jump scares, but everyone in our group survived. I took DS and three of his friends. I had seen the original, but they hadn't, and none of us had read the book (though one of them now plans to!)

I personally liked the original better, but I happened to like the way that one was told - with the adults in the "present' and flashing back to the kids. The new movie sticks with the kids and kind of fills in with more backstory on them/their families. I also think the new one relies more on "we can, so we will" special effects, so it then cuts that with comic relief (banter between the kids, like someone mentioned, etc.)

I did think the casting was really good.

Yes, I think that's exactly why they did that! Even though I liked the 50s setting, I do understand the choice, and the math works out...
especially at the end, when the credits call it "Chapter One".

I can't wait to see it. We had free tickets for a special preview but had to prep for Hurricane Irma instead. :( Hopefully next weekend.

Someone tied red balloons to the storm grates around Nashville. It looks like a very scary movie.

We saw it Friday night. I needed to get away from all the Irma planning as my anxiety was going through the roof. Part way through the movie I leaned over to my husband and said "This probably wasn't the best choice of movies to alleviate my anxiety". LOL
I am a Stephen King movie purist and believe none of his movies should ever be remade. I was hesitant to see it but the more I saw the previews, I wanted to go. I thought they did a fantastic job. Scary, but not gory, which so many movies rely on these days. The actors they cast for the kids were spot on. As someone else mentioned upthread the banter between them was perfect and always at the right time. Absolutely no hokiness at all.
Pennywise comes back every 27 years and it's been 27 years from the last movie. It would be kinda cool if they did another remake in 27 years. :rotfl:

Which one is that? My favorites are the Langoliers and the Stand. Followed by the Green Mile (but I blubber like a baby throughout most of that one)!

I can't wait to see "IT" but likely it will be several months... when it hits Netflix or whatever. In the meantime I will hope to find my dog-eared paperback copy and read it again while I am waiting...

Glad someone else caught that! When I first read the book as a tween, I even marked on a calendar what every 27 years would be...

For me, it's The Mist..the ending of that movie guts me.

Gerald's Game is coming to Netflix later this month and I have high hopes for it.

Really for Gerald's Game. Have to watch for it.

Hate the Mist TV show and Under the Dome....we stopped watching that TV version. They completely destroyed that storyline.

I'm not a native Louisianan but I would highly recommend NOT emulating the various clown pranks I've seen in the last few days (and years) on YouTube here... Stick with the red balloon but don't go dresssing up lol....

Planning on seeing it Tuesday. Our local drive in posted on Facebook that they sold our Friday night. Last night they put it in 2 screens & opened the box office an hour early to get everyone in before the movie stared. They have been in business over 60 years & Friday night was the only time they have ever sold out a night in September. Crazy!
