Hi Everyone, just wanted to celebrate that we signed our first DVC contract on this day in 1991 and have been members for 20 years.

Wow, 20 years flew by - but we have received the best of what DVC has offered during this time.

Buying into DVC back in 1991 was the best decision I ever made - next to asking my wife to marry me!!!! :yay: :cool1:

Congrats! It's nice to hear you love your membership (as well as your wife) just as much today as you did 20 years ago!!!

I can probably figure this out, but I'm not sure-how do we know the exact date we joined DVC? We could look at our first contract, except for one problem-after we bought a second contract at a different resort, we sold the first. I know that we're coming up on 10 years since we've been members, but we don't currently own any contracts that we've held that long. So is there a way we can find the exact date we joined? We'd kind of like to celelbrate the date we became members with a dinner or something.

Wow! Congratulations!

We celebrate our first DVC stay, December 19, 2003!

Only a small precentage can claim ownership for that long. Congratulations. Of course, I assume like Jack Benny always was and like I am, that you are still only 39.

Congrats! We celebrate our 20 years in May. Bought 2000 points right off the bat and have no regrets at all! Just sorry it got so big. It was a lot of fun back then being a part of something special. I'm sure you know what I mean!

Debbie, we do understand. Remember, back then there was no internet site or DIS to investigate or ask questions. DVC was just an experiment and back then "timeshares" had such a bad reputation.
Our guide was told not to use the word "timeshare" to describe DVC - just to say it was a "vacation home" Then it was called the Disney Vacation Club but now its called Old Key West. We know from attending those early shareholder meetings that even Disney never anticipated the positive response and growth of the DVC.
Well, our first visit was in early March of 1992 and only a few buildings were finished and 95% were under construction - but it was so wonderful to be part of it.
Each visit they gave us more and more "gifts" to encourage members to stay with the program. We have several of the bronze 1991 member special coins and loads of DVC merchandise with the original 3 red mountain logo. Later on they changed the logo to the 2 purple mountain logo. We still have our 1991 purple/green DVC jackets with the 3 red mountain logo.
It has been fun watching the DVC grow up and spread so wide. We generally took 2 Disney vacations a year and figuered that after paying off out loan that we have been enjoying free vacations since 1996. Not to mention 15 free Disney Cruises and 2 more cruises planned in 2012.
God Bless the DVC. It has been great to us.
Maybe one day we should share our "vintage" DVC photos and memorabilia and stories of the earliest visits.
Do you remember the first Magic Kingdom bus also went through the then existing Tree House Villa area before heading to the Kingdom? Slowly following the families of Peacocks wandering along the road. Great memories. And cast member Rufus blowing his conch shell horn during the boat ride from DVC to the Marketplace - oh now its called Downtown Disney. A great cast member who aded so much to the members visits.

Congrats. And yeah, sharing those old photos with us would be really cool.

Happy Anniversary! We bought in early 1993, sight unseen, never took a tour, just trusted because it was Disney. I later learned a large percentage of purchasers bought sight unseen. (And OKW is still my favorite!)

We have only been members for about 2.5 years. But at our age, we could be 50 year members. We bought in our late 20's.

Happy Anniversary! It sounds like you have a wealth of experiences you could share with us and I'd love to see your "vintage" photos.

May the next 20 years be even better!

I find it fascinating that you can now, via the resale market, buy points today at the same price you did 20 years ago!.....what's "old" is "new" I guess.

What is old is new again but.....we received length of stay tickets for half the number of people that the villa accomodated until 2000. An additional perk was that although we borrowed points we still received the tickets.

Congrats. Must be interesting watching the program grow. And I agree, I would love to see some of those old photos to see DVC from it's infancy.
