It was the best of times, it was the worst of times!

Both you and your daughter are so blessed that you can be there to help her for as long as she needs! Hope she is feeling well and recovers quickly.

Day 2

At this rate I’ll be here until the next grandchild turns 5!!! :rotfl2:

I forgot to mention the use of the magic bands. They worked great to open our room door and we had no problem the first day using them to get into HS. My biggest nightmare was that I would leave them at home. :crazy2:

Oh, and something else that I was not expecting. I always look forward to the ME in part because of the film they run while traveling and I just love the announcer’s voice. It makes me really feel as though I’ve “arrived”. Well, they have replaced my beloved announcer’s voice as well as the film they used to have. I realize that it probably needed a bit of updating to keep it current, but sheesh! It is just like a little infomercial now. I was a bit bummed! More than a bit, but I try not to crab too much, after all I’m on my way to DISNEY WORLD!!!! So, I put on my big girl panties and carried on as they say.

******************************************************************

I begin day two by telling you that Dan and I are early risers and love to get to the parks for opening. We don’t rush, but it happens easily when it’s just the two of us. Enter Charlotte and her sleeping habits. She began sleeping through the night at 3 months. I’m talking 10 hours. At 5, she still loves her sleep. Dan and I were up, had our showers, Dan had his coffee, we’d both done our Bible reading and still she wasn’t up! All this time we had been careful to be as quiet as we could, but hey, we’re burning daylight here and there are parks to visit and things to do. Much better than sleeping things!!! So, we did what any loving grandparents would do...we opened the blinds, started talking above a whisper and turned on the tv. Don’t judge!

So sleeping beauty woke up finally. this is around 9AM. We had brought her favorite cereal and bought milk the night before, so breakfast was a quick affair.

By the time she got dressed and we got to the bus stop, I think it was going on 10:00! But we were all smiles and go with the flow. She was wearing the Rapunzel dress I had made for her the Christmas before last. I was amazed it still fit her!

After about a 10 minute wait, we were on our way...to ...wait for it...MAGIC KINGDOM!!! I love it when we catch the morning show, but that wasn’t happening this day. Still, we were so excited for Charlotte to experience everything MK had to offer. We arrived just before Emily and Josh and Caroline, so we waited in the gift shop. We were trying to find a stuffed Olaf for Charlotte, but that was when we found ot there was no Frozen themed items IN ALL OF DISNEY WORLD!! So, we bought her a Minnie Mouse instead that she picked out. We also got a smaller version for Caroline. Good thing too, because she was fussing about being in a stroller. That little one likes to GO! The stuffie helped soothe the ravage beast and we were soon on our way!

Here’s a pic of Emily, Josh, Caroline and Charlotte.

We walked through the castle and headed to the carrousel first. Charlotte did not want to ride. Here we go, right? But thankfully, her daddy said he would take her and kind of talked her into it. Of course she ended up loving it and wanted to stay on and go again. Yay!

Next up were the Tea Cups. Charlotte did not want to go on them. Again? But Emily and I talked her into it and once again she absolutely loved it and wanted to do it again.

BUT we didn’t have time because we had a very important date to keep:

Lunch at Crystal Palace. We had about a 15 minute wait to be seated, which I thought wasn’t too bad. What ever food there is, if it includes mac and cheese, that’s what Charlotte eats. She loves mac and cheese! So she was already a happy camper.

When the characters started making their rounds, she was again thrilled.

We all had a great time. The lines got a bit long for the food, but that goes with the territory of a buffet at Disney. The amount of time the characters spent with us was really good and they were so sweet to little Caroline.

Here they come!!!

Okay, worst Grandma in the world. Not one single picture with Pooh!!! Was I in line? I don't remember. :confused3I can't believe it!

When we left Crystal Palace, we got in line to see the fairies. It was a 30 minute wait. We told Josh and Emily to leave Caroline with us and go have some fun together. Charlotte was a little shy with Rosetta and Tink, but she enjoyed it just the same. I got some not great photos. Dan, the photographer of the two of us, was outside strolling a sleeping Caroline around.

When we finally got finished at Pixie Hollow, we had to go directly to the Harmony Barber Shop. Charlotte was scheduled for a trim and pixie dust, but she decided she wanted to grow her hair out again so she could look more like Elsa from Frozen. So I asked if that would be a problem if she didn’t want a cut and they said not at all, she could just get a “do” and some pixie dust. The lady who did Charlotte’s hair was very good, giving her all sorts of options for how she wanted it done. She chose a ponytail to the side. It turned out really cute, and at only $5 (plus tip of course) a real bargain!

Emily and Josh met up with us just as we were leaving the barber shop. They used their time to buy sweatshirts because it hadn’t warmed up any and was raining off and on. I stubbornly had my capries on and short sleeves. I was in Florida. I was going to dress for Florida, right?

Moving along.

Next we had to get to our first FP+ of the day, which was a meet and greet with Rapunzel. That was so great! Dan and I were the two who had FP, but they let all of our party go in. Bonus! Rapunzel said they must be sisters since they were dressed alike. Charlotte was thrilled to meet one of her favorite characters. Caroline, not so much.

And Snow White was there too!

Who’s up for climbing? Well, ok! Let’s do the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House! Since we were in Fantasyland, we hopped aboard the train to get over to Frontierland and closer to the Tree House. We all traipsed up and then back down again. Emily was a bit disappointed as she had remembered it differently. It has undergone changes since we were there with the girls in 1990! Just a few.

Okay, I better stop here and help get breakfast for the kiddos and lunches packed. I’ll be back when I can.

You caught me, I never got this sent before being needed upstairs. So, finally, I'm posting!!

Hi! I just happened onto your trip report and I am really enjoying it! I love how you are sharing Disney with your grand kids one-on-one. I also like how you are going with the flow. I recently returned from WDW too. Our days actually overlapped and we were at PORFQ too! It was my first time there and I loved it! We were there from Feb 9 to the 16. I am planning on writing a TR but haven't started it yet.

I hope your daughter recovers quickly.

Charlotte is adorable! She looks really cute in her Minnie ears! The photo of the two of you is precious! I also like the one of them all in front of the castle with the two girls hugging their Minnie's.

This is Lois's DH. Enjoying all your posts! 8O

Welcome Dan!!! It's great to finally meet you! I love the name you chose - from what Lois has told us, it's very fitting. :wizard:

**********************************************************

Your Charlotte is just adorable! I love that morning photo of her with her cereal - those cheeks just make you want to squish them.

I am glad that she warmed up to the rides, I hope she continues to do so.

And I loved all the princess pictures... And the (not)Pooh pictures. :rotfl2:... And the Fairy pictures... All of them were adorable!

And the Harmony Barber Shop - I have seen Mo's photos... She raves about it, so it looks like you love it too... and $5 - that is a bargain! Maybe I need to schedule a little dusting for myself? LOL

I hope Jennifer is feeling better, please send her all of our prayers and Pixie Dust, and know that all of you are on our minds and in our prayers too.

Sorry this is so short - gotta run... I should have been on the road 30 minutes ago!

:grouphug:

D~

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm off to schedule the girls for Harmony Barber Shop hair dos!

Funny thing - my Charlotte's big sister's name is Peyton Caroline! So we each have a version of Charlotte and Caroline going :)

It must be at least a little hard to slow down to Charlotte's pace when you are used to doing things much differently. I have a very hard time slowing down at the parks, but I try to do better each trip.

So glad you're here! Let me know when you start your TR. I would love to follow along!

Jennifer is doing really well, thanks.

Yes, the castle shot is a favorite of mine as well. We didn't get a shot of Dan and I with Charlotte. Another oops!

Welcome Dan!!! It's great to finally meet you! I love the name you chose - from what Lois has told us, it's very fitting. :wizard:

Oh, yes.::yes::

Your Charlotte is just adorable! I love that morning photo of her with her cereal - those cheeks just make you want to squish them.

You are going to make a wonderful grandma in about a decade! You are squish-ready at all times! I love it!

I am glad that she warmed up to the rides, I hope she continues to do so.

Can you believe it? No Pooh! I should have the cone of shame...:faint:

And the Harmony Barber Shop - I have seen Mo's photos... She raves about it, so it looks like you love it too... and $5 - that is a bargain! Maybe I need to schedule a little dusting for myself? LOL

You and the girls must! They leave your hair down if you want or put it up, however. Of course you won't have much choice, but the pixie dust is so fun!

I hope Jennifer is feeling better, please send her all of our prayers and Pixie Dust, and know that all of you are on our minds and in our prayers too.

She is feeling a lot better and is so excited to be able to stand up straight after so many months. Of course the pain meds go a long way to help her feel good.

Sorry this is so short - gotta run... I should have been on the road 30 minutes ago!

Oh D~, no need to be sorry. I love having you here whenever you can squeeze it in. I have to jump over to your report now and see what you're up to!

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm off to schedule the girls for Harmony Barber Shop hair dos!

Yes! They will love it, and it doesn't take as long as BBBoutique! Charlotte would not have wanted to sit through that for so long.

Funny thing - my Charlotte's big sister's name is Peyton Caroline! So we each have a version of Charlotte and Caroline going :)

That's so neat! And I love the name Peyton!

It must be at least a little hard to slow down to Charlotte's pace when you are used to doing things much differently. I have a very hard time slowing down at the parks, but I try to do better each trip.

It is just a completely different trip for us since we never took our children when they were young. I had to read up on things that would be of interest to them that we had never bothered with. Of course, the vast majority of things Dan and I do anyway since we're both kids when we're there. But, yes, the pace is sooo not what we are used to. But it's sometimes good to slow it down and really take more of it in. We try to do that even without the grands along. I'm sure you do a fabulous job with your girls!

Oh My goodness she is as cute as a button!!!

Your WAY too nice. i would have woken her up.. No sleeping in Disney! NONE! :hyper:

Honestly your very sweet!! That dress is AMAZING!

I am confused.. Is that your son? Or daughter? they came to Disney too?? maybe i need to go back and re-read...

Okay, I missed some quotes. Sorry about that!!

QUOTE=Chicago Mo;50889543]:wave2: Hi!!!! you joined!!!!!!!! HOW FUN!!!![/QUOTE]

Watch out, Mo, he's a stalker!:lmao::lmao:

I hope Jennifer isn't in a lot of pain. Poor girl..

Have fun with the kids!!!!

She's doing really well with the pain meds they gave her. She is happy to be able to stand up again and so far no crutches. Just this big fat cast. Here are two of the kids signing it:

Little Mo:

And Miles (you can also see a little of Selah and Moriah

Thanks for asking, Mo!!

Loving your TR and your DGD is absolutely adorable!!! I cannot wait to hear how she decides to spend the rest of her trip at WDW. And I hope the mousekeepers did some cute things with her plush toys...I remember our 1st on site stay (at POR), my 2 DDs had tons of plush toys (and also chose to buy more on the trip) and the mousekeepers arranged them so cutely every day...like a little scene (my DDs would be so excited to get back to the room at night to see what their toys were up to). Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Welcome! Glad to have you along! :dance3: That is so cute that Mousekeeping rearranged the stuffies! I just love those little unexpected extras you only get at a Disney Resort!

Both you and your daughter are so blessed that you can be there to help her for as long as she needs! Hope she is feeling well and recovers quickly.

It is really such a blessing! Every time I think I should get a job of some sort, I'm needed somewhere by someone and then I realize that is why I'm not employed. I am also blessed that Dan is fully supportive when I have to be gone for extended periods of time. Thanks for the well wishes!:flower3:

HaHaHa…I don't poke the sleeping bear!! No way!

Thanks on the dress. I love to sew for my grandkids.

Sorry for the confusion. I should have pictured them in the beginning, but they didn't want to horn in on our trip and it was Dan and I who asked them to join us each day. Originally they weren't even going to go to Disney at all. But they ended up spending 3 days there. So, we hooked up whenever we could. Emily is our daughter. It can be a bit confusing. :crazy2: Does that help?

ETA: And every time I realize I've missed a photo op, I always think "Mo would never had missed that shot!!"

Very becoming do there, Charlotte.

My niece is a Charlotte too and her mom is Carolyn. Seems to be an epidemic of familial feminine Charles Derivatives!

We're planning on going with some friends who have kids in a couple of years - I've been trying to keep that in mind as we go, because adults doing Disney is VERY DIFFERENT than doing Disney with kids. Or non-Disney people, but that's an entirely different story.

Anyway, living vicariously through the TR because the weather in AL is now getting to where Cale starts counting the miles from here to Orlando and saying "If we leave now, we can have 2 hours in a park and be back in time for work on Monday."

- glad Dan joined us too!

Love the dress!!! Yay!!! I'm so glad that you put this in about the barbershop. We are planning on doing this instead of BBB since we are bringing the dresses and don't care for the hairstyles offered. I had heard that they didn't do the "dusting" anymore, but it's GREAT that they do!!!:cool1:

Glad that you are able to be there in VA! I'm sure she appreciates the help!

Isn't it? Names always seem to go in cycles. I just love Charlotte and Caroline…sort of old fashioned, but somehow current too.

HaHa! I almost think going with kids is preferable to going with adults who are non-Disney people! You'll enjoy Disney is a whole different way when you go with your friends with kids!

:rotfl: Cale sounds like my kind of thinker! I would be just that crazy at least once! I'm glad your weather is getting more normal for you. Dan sent me a pic of our latest snowfall last night. I was glad to be in Virginia where we had a snowball fight with the last of their snow in 63 degree temps. I was in heaven!

I'm glad he joined in too!

BTW, Ruth, how are you feeling these days? You are still on my prayer list.

I think the girls will love the Barber Shop. And bonus, it doesn't take nearly as long as BBB so more park time, PLUS is is so inexpensive. They really do try to make it lots of fun. Charlotte got plenty of "pixie dust" sprinkled. What they no longer do is the hair color. Which is a shame since that was something boys liked to get done as well as the girls.

I'm glad I'm able to be here too, but its sort of put a halt to my TR. I'll try to get another installment done soon. Thanks for hanging in there with me!:goodvibes

Subscribing! It's been fun reading along. Your granddaughter is adorable. I'm terrible at doing hair but we're going for MNSSHP so I was hoping for my daughter to get a little something special done for her hair. I was afraid BBB would take too long and cost too much. Perhaps we will try the barbershop as well!

Welcome!! So glad you could join us! I think your daughter would love the barber shop. They make it a fun experience. And I absolutely LOVE the MNSSHP!! How old is your daughter if you don't mind my asking? And when are you going? That's so exciting!

My daughter is 6. We'll be there 9/14-9/19. It is the first trip for all of us (my DH and DS age 4 will also be going). I am just ecstatic! I'm really enjoying following along with a few trip reports. It makes me feel like I'm there already! And it's helping me to prepare. Thank you again for taking the time to detail your trip.

It happened again!!! An entire report including photos gone!!!! BUT thanks to all of you, I did it in Word and all I have to do is copy it. THANK YOU!!!

Day 2 resumes

I guess this would be a good time to explain why Charlotte did not have her own magic band. ( I know, I know, I should have explained from the get go. Rookie at the wheel here.) When we made our hotel reservation, we knew we were going to be there 9 days and Charlotte only 5, so we were advised to just list Charlotte as a day guest in our room. If we had put her on our reservation, we would have had to pay for a 9 day ticket instead of 4 and for her dining as well. We did the stay, dine and play promo they were doing at the time. So, we made FP selections not knowing if we would be able to include Charlotte. We tried to make them for attractions that it wouldn’t matter how many came through, such as the meet and greets. For Rapunzel, we all could go in, which didn’t really impact anyone else. For Winnie the Pooh ride, the girls could ride with each adult FP holder. I was so relieved that this worked out so well. They really are fairly lenient and some didn’t even check ANYone. I guess they just assumed everyone had one?

I had promised Charlotte she could have some popcorn, so this was as good a time as any to deliver as promised. popcorn:: I don’t know why, but popcorn seems to taste better at the parks. I got a container with a lid so we could put it in the backpack when necessary and that worked out great. Especially great for me since I didn’t have to carry the backpack!! ::yes::

Our next ride was Pirates of the Caribbean. Only about a 10 minute wait for that one. It’s actually the first time I can remember having time to take pictures. We are used to just walking right onto the ride! Of course, the pictures I took turned out too dark but you can see for yourself below. Charlotte clutched my hand the entire time and little Caroline had a death grip on Dan’s neck. They both liked it, though. It is a huge favorite of mine as well.

We had another FP+ coming up for a meet and greet with Mickey. We decided to hop onto the train and ride it to Main Street. It was a bit chilly riding, but sure saved on our feet. We’d done quite a bit more criss-crossing than Dan and I usually do. But we finally made it to see Mickey. We had literally no wait and it was TALKING MICKEY!!!! Charlotte was a little taken aback when he actually talked and it took her a minute to really warm up to him. But he was so sweet, making a big deal out of meeting her, a real, live princess! She really enjoyed it.

Sorry this one is a bit blurry.

Of course, Disney is so very clever to always dump you out into a shop and Charlotte just had to have a hat. It was a Rapunzel hat that hat a braid coming out of the top. I didn’t get a picture and I am so bummed. Of course, she couldn’t wear it very well with her hair up, so guess who ended up carrying it? Eventually it went into Dan’s backpack. Well alrighty then. She spent her own money on that one!

Emily and Josh were getting Starbucks for all of us, so we took Charlotte into the Confectionery store and let her fill a bag with M&Ms and Jelly Bellies. Now THAT was fun! I just love that store!

By now, everyone was getting hungry for supper, so we headed over to one of our favorite quick service places. Columbia Harbour House. The food there is very good and pretty large portions. We always try to sit upstairs since it’s quieter up there and usually not too crowded. Charlotte got mac and cheese. Again. So she was a happy camper!

I wasn’t hungry, so I just ate a bite of Dan’s salmon and I think one bite of broccoli.

This was Dan's dessert, but I don't remember what it was called. I think Josh ended up eating it. It wasn't chocolate, so I wasn't interested.:rotfl:

Josh had the shrimp, which is my favorite. I can’t remember what Emily had. And of course, no photos of their food. I thought I would remember everything, but man was I wrong!! :faint:

By the time we were finished there, it was about 15 minutes until the MSEP. Em and Josh and Caroline were heading for their shuttle back to their hotel. We were planning to stay for the parade and then Wishes. It was very cold out and it started to lightly rain, so we decided to just head back to our room. We walked all the way down to the FQ bus stop and on the way it started to rain pretty hard. We had stopped in the Main Street store to put our ponchos on, so we weren’t getting too wet. The new bus stops are pretty cool since you can get under roof fairly soon. We had been waiting there maybe 5 minutes when Charlotte had to go to the bathroom. She thought she could wait for the bus, but after 5 more minutes I thought we better not chance it and she and I headed back up to MK. By now it was raining pretty hard and we got to the gate where people exit the park and the restrooms are right there. The security guy at the gate wouldn’t let me in that way because I had, wait for it, a wallet type purse hanging on my shoulder. They don’t even check it when i go through the bag check area. But he would not budge. Soooo, we had to go all the way down by the Ferry and through and all the way back to the bathroom. Thankfully she made it! (For the record, I just want to say I totally appreciate the work the security staff does at Disney and I'm all for it since it keeps us safe. I just wasn't as appreciative at that moment, but I got over it.)

Meanwhile, our bus has come and gone. By now it is raining buckets and blowing like crazy. We are wrapped up together like peas in a pod trying to keep warm and dry.

Finally another bus came along. Yay!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Back in our room, we all get into warm jammies and snuggle under the blankets. Well, after Charlotte posed with her stuffies!

And we had a little visitor join us too:

We had a really fun day with a less than perfect ending, but it was all good. We played a game of memory and she “wrote” in her little journal. We watched a little tv and then it was lights out. We found out later that Emily, Josh and Caroline were caught in that awful downpour and wind in the middle of the parking lot with no ponchos or umbrella! Thankfully there was another family there with two umbrellas who let them use one. Needless to say, Emily bought an umbrella from their hotel gift shop as soon as they got back!

But would she need it??? Where in the World will we go next? After all, it IS Miss Charlotte’s actual factual birthday the next day...princess::cake:

September is our favorite time of year to go to Disney!!! You'll love it. It will be VERY hot, though. And 6 and 4 are fabulous ages to go. Oh my gosh, you guys are going to have a blast!! Can I still say "blast"??? Anyway, that is so exciting for you. Chime in with any questions you may have. If I can't answer, someone following probably can. :thumbsup2

HaHaHa…I don't poke the sleeping bear!! No way!

OK i understand that... :thumbsup2

Thanks on the dress. I love to sew for my grandkids.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!! you do a lovely job!!! :worship:
