It Was the Best of Times, It Was the Worst of Times. updated 4/18. The end!

OK we are getting hammered with snow here in Philly again and it's the first of 3 storms they are predicting this week. What better way to deal with it than reliving some warm days and Disney.

We are now on Day 4 of the trip - Tuesday December 3rd.

The temperature on this morning started at 59 degrees. We had an early start this day. While Jim showered I took a few pictures from the balcony.

Our view

For those of you reading along not familiar with SSR that is the Carriage House. The elusive building we looked for on our first night here. It was a brief 5 minute walk.

Anyway Jim was ready quickly and we headed to the Grandstand bus stop. There were these beautiful and HUMONGOUS birds on the golf course.

The CM working the bus stop did tell us what they were but I am a little hard of hearing and couldn't understand what she said. They do hang out on the golf course in the early morning though. It was the only time we ever saw them.

We were at the bus stop by 7:15 AM and the MK bus was there within 5 minutes. The bus driver was really nice and chatty which makes for a pleasant ride. We made the loop around the resort and got to the MK stop by 7:45. So far we were having great luck. Jim however was walking very slow and we missed the monorail. Jim has 2 speeds normally slow and really SLOOOOOW!!! With his foot he only had really slow and not moving.

We got the next monorail and arrived at our destination just a little late. I wanted Crystal Palace for breakfast but could never get an ADR. 1900 Park Fair opened up about 2 weeks before we left so I grabbed it. I went straight to the podium and I don't have an ADR. I had the app on my phone ready and showed it to them.

"Oh here it is Mary."

Umm my name isn't Mary.

"Well that's the name on the reservation."

My name isn't Mary check again.

"Do you have a different ADR so we can try through that?"

After finally finding my ADR through my Cali Grille ADR they gave us a pager and had me park outside. We got our pic and if I ever get Flickr or Photobucket to work I'll post my photopass pics. I do NOT like the Memory Maker.

We were seated and after the spiel on how a buffet works, and ordering coffee which I desperately needed now I hurried over. I was aggravated and hungry. And I really wanted to try

The strawberry soup. Sorry I didn't clean up the bowl for a nice pretty picture but I was in a hurry and it was worth it. It definitely lived up to it's hype.

While Jim was getting his food Winnie the Pooh made it to our table. The man sitting next to us very nicely took my picture

By time Jim came back we had Tigger

Mary Poppins sat down and had a nice conversation with Jim

Alice in Wonderland

The Mad Hatter

He was an amazing character. Very chatty. Kept having conversations with Alice. Really into his character. After I took Jim's picture he went to take mine. Mad Hatter wouldn't hear of it and said we should be in one picture. He recruited a man who had just sat down with his family to take the picture

We really had fun here. Now just a brief rant. We were seated next to a family with 4 young children I believe they ranged from 2 y/o to 9 y/o. The age range of my grandkids so I like kids and am very use to the ages. The parents I wanted to smack in the head. They got the kids cereal. Most wound up on the floor. They got the baby a banana and he squished it and threw it on the floor. They seriously came back with huge plates of food, took one bite and went back for more an half wound up on the floor next to me. The kids were wild and laying down on the bench so I got kicked a few times. The whole time the parents laughed at how cute the kids were. Don't get me wrong. I know this is Disney, I love kids and I know kids get exited but there is now excuse for bad and rude behavior. Jim and I actually ate quite fast and couldn't wait to get out of there.

I will go back again though. The food and character interactions were fantastic. Our total cost with tax and tip was $62.00.

After we finished eating I took some pics of the Grand Floridian.
The tree in the lobby

and a close up of some of the ornaments

A flower display in the lobby

The Gingerbread House

The details are amazing. Now while I was taking my pics I noticed they had a photopass photographer there. One woman was yanking her son to get in line because she said, "I want your picture done by a professional photographer."

I had to leave because I stated laughing so hard Jim thought I was insane. Some of the photopass people are good but I wouldn't say they are professional photographers. And this one looked like he might be on the College Program so he could be majoring in photography. He could just as easily be majoring in finance.

I took one more pic

Found my scooter and we were off to the monorail and the MK.

If you noticed Jim wearing a Santa shirt we were doing MCMCP that night and I had gotten us Christmas shirts to wear. I think they put kids shirts in the woman's section as my shirt was so tight it would fir my granddaughter. Thankfully I had packed an extra shirt.

Up next where do we go first?

I'm with you Lorrie. I love kids, especially my grandson's. We usually travel with them to Disney and the 5 year old can be a handful but we are Always mindful of people near us. Manners do not go away when we are on vacation.

I totally agree. One of my grandsons is definitely ADHD. I took him to Disney almost 2 years ago (the Mikey in my TR's in my signature) and he knew how to behave in a restaurant. I have watched him since he was an infant and he knows that I expect manners and good behavior when we are out. They all know that the world does not revolve around them. Of course Scott will tell you Mikey is a good kid he just needs a leash. He has met Mikey. :rotfl:

I am snowed and now iced in so here's another update.

We had left the Grand Floridian and were headed to - the Magic Kingdom. This was the only day planned here so I wanted to get there early. I went through bag check and then used my MB to get in with no issues. Jim went to the no bag line and had an issue with his MB but got in before I reached him. He needed a potty break so I took some pictures. One day I am going arrive early and get a picture of all the windows but here's one of them

And I tried to get some good pics of the decorations on Main Street as some of them may be gone after this year

One thing I do love to do is looking at the window displays. They had Mickey's A Christmas Carol

God Bless Us Everyone

OK a Dicken's title does work.

We headed over to

Jungle Cruise, oops I mean JINGLE Cruise had a long wait so we went past it for now. Headed straight to Pirates. I tried my dark ride photography here and was really happy with some of the pictures

We moved on as we had FP's we were going to use soon. I was so sad that IASW was closed up. It is one of the rides that I need to go on. Sadly we moved on to see some ghosts. I am not sure about the FP+ here. I am sure there are times when it will be useful but today the CM's let us in the FP line without it. Both sides were 5 minutes. Did some more dark ride pictures and this was my favorite

I guess I really liked that one because it's the only one I uploaded. Anyhow our FP+ time had opened we went where Jim has never been before - Under the Sea. His last trip the expansion wasn't done so I made him visit. I went first and got green. Jim held his Mickey to the Mickey and got BLUE - again. I was not feeling the love. The CM here just let him through and told us to try guest services if we had any more issues. I took pics to get happy again

My girls loved The Little Mermaid when they were little and wore the tape out watching it. They would have loved a ride like this. I decided we should use the photopass and Jim followed me with no clue what we were doing. He really just goes along with whatever I want. We were in another line and I love the little details.

And we met Ariel herself.

Hard to tell but he was actually happy.

An since Flickr is acting as slow as the DIS has been I will stop here. Where do we go and does his MB work? I'll leave you to wonder.

Sorry I'm behind (mom in hospital for a day, surgery for son, DIS being extremely slow).

I so want to try 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. I think I'm going to do some switching around and try and fit that in on our September trip.

Love the pictures of you with all the characters.

Great pictures of the Christmas decorations at MK. Why do you say some won't be there next year?

You did awesome with your dark photography. What type of camera do you have?

I'm sorry you are having snow and ice. The snow is bad enough, but add the ice and it makes it treacherous.

Hope your mom is OK and that your son isn't in to much pain after the surgery. DIS is being really slow lately.

I loved the breakfast and the interaction.

Thanks I usually hate being in pictures but in Disney I don't mind.

I read in he Attractions and Strategies that the floats for the new parade are too tall and the wreaths will be gone next year. I hope it isn't true but who knows.

You did awesome with your dark photography. What type of camera do you have?

Thank you that is one thing I am really working on. I had my Sony A550 DSLR on this trip with a new fast lens. I am very lucky that Jim doesn't mind my spending money to try and upgrade my camera equipment.

I'm sorry you are having snow and ice. The snow is bad enough, but add the ice and it makes it treacherous.

I can deal with snow although I don't like it as much as I used to. The ice however I hate. My brother has been without power at his house as the combination of snow and ice took down wires. He is just outside Philly. My mom now has his family which includes his crazy dog at her house.

We are due for one more storm this week and they are talking feet not inches with the next one. I am really hoping they are wrong.

I can't believe I hadn't seen this!! Bill has been sick but that is no excuse. I will be catching up as quickly as I can. I can't wait to read this!! :goodvibes

:welcome: Hi Tracy. Glad you're here. Bill is number 1 over any TR. Hope he's feeling better.

Loved all your Universal/Islands of Adventure pictures. We have never been there, so I am living through you and Scott.

I didn't know you and Lucy shared a birthday, how awesome!! I just love her.

I hate going somewhere new in the dark, I can't seem to get my bearings.

In the day time I can find anything, in the dark not so much. I am so sorry you had issues at SSR.

Love the moose ears picture.

Great pictures from the CLP. Oh no did we mess up your TT fastpasses by talking your leg off? I am so sorry.

The baby pictures are so adorable.

Loved the Grand Floridian and 1900 Park Faire pictures, it makes me want to go to breakfast there.

The magic band problems would have driven me crazy.

I may go back again with the kids or to see the Harry Potter expansion but it sure isn't Disney.

I have always loved Lucy. She was a brilliant comedienne. Sharing a birthday was a bonus.

I hate going somewhere new in the dark, I can't seem to get my bearings.

I understand that O try and get places early but it isn't always possible. It had been a long two days and I was tired and in pain so it sure didn't help things.

Daytime I was laughing at myself.

Love the moose ears picture.

I was trying to get him to be silly, that was what he came up with.

We had already been on it that day so no big deal. I would much rather talk with a friend than go on a ride anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent together and hope we can do it again one day.

The baby pictures are so adorable.

Thank you he's a keeper and a really good baby. I've had a cold some I'm staying away this week and Daddy is home so I want them to have time together. He left when Wyatt was a week old for work. Your grandson is very cute too

Do it. The breakfast was good but the characters were really good.

The magic band problems would have driven me crazy.

Wait I haven't even got started on them.

Hope to do an update today but I started a new and time consuming project. I am organizing and scanning all my predigital pictures into the computer. It took me most of the day yesterday to scan my first 2 Disney trips and only about 250 pictures. It has been fun looking at Disney in the 80's and 90's and reliving trips with my kids though.

I see you have a December 2013 TR going, so consider me subbed! I've got some catching up to do!

:welcome: Glad you joined in. You aren't that far behind I've been updating slowly.

I have been organizing d scanning old pics and thought some of you might like these. They are from 1992.

Mickey and Minnie at the Orlando airport greeting you when you land.

Minnie Moo in what used to be Mickey's Star Land. Now it is theCircus area.

And back before they had lines you got some strange things in pics with the kids

Just a little glimpse of the past. And my youngest was in a full arm heavy plaster cast on the trip. She was pushed off the top of a sliding board one week before we left.

Those birds are big.
Last trip we had problems at 1900 also with our adr. I think it is the workers. LOL
Great character pics.
I don’t care if it Disney or your living room, kids should know how to behave and that is totally on the parents. I would have said something especially if I was kicked.
Your pirate’s pics came out really nice.
I can tell he was happy, he was half smiling. He liked Ariel.
The clothes in 92’ were not fun. LOL

They were huge! You didn't get to see them?

It could be. Seriously it took over 15 minutes to find it even though it was on the MDE app on my phone.

Great character pics.

Thanks.

I did say something - to Jim! You have gone out to eat with Mikey - even he knows how to behave in a restaurant. I will not tolerate that from my grandkids and they know it.

Your pirate’s pics came out really nice.

Thank you I was really happy with them.

I think he did.

The clothes in 92’ were not fun. LOL

They were something else. :lmao: I mean seriously what was that woman wearing. My son has not forgiven me for putting him in pink shorts on this trip.

All caught up, finally!! Loving all of your amazing photos!! You really got some great shots. How wonderful that you got to do the CP and see NPH. He seems to be everyone's favorite. I really like him, too. Looking forward ot reading more !!
