We decided to have a nice lazy day today. We woke up about 7.30 and headed into the village for a nice brekkie. We went to a place called the Broken Egg which I had read about before we went. I had a hot chocolate with whipped cream and a Broken Eggwich which was ham, egg and cheese on a giant croissant, I could only manage half of it. Ric had an Egg Largo which was a large muffin with ham, tomato, cheese, poached eggs etc.
We were stuffed after such a big brekkie so we decided to walk it off and check out Siesta Key public beach. This beach has a large car park, bbq and picnic areas, toilets, snack bar, volleyball nets and is generally very very clean and well equiped. The sand here is finest talcum powder and pure white which is great as it doesn't get hot. It is also a very wide expanse of sand. It is one of the best beaches if not the best that I have been to.
We spent the next couple of hours down here before it got too hot (it was in the 90's and pretty humid). We then decided to get in some supplies for the apartment so drove the short distance to the mainland (Sarasota) to find a supermarket. There was a Publix quite close by so we got a trolley and stocked up. I am always amazed by the different things they have in US supermarkets. We managed to buy enough to feed a small army for a year and left $130 lighter. We went back to Banana Bay where we had a swim and relaxed for a couple more hours, it's hard work this holiday business.
Later in the afternoon we visited the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens which are in Sarasota itself, this was a pleasant enough way to spend an hour. We then had a drive through Sarasota itself which was quite a bit larger than I had imagined but seemed clean and looked nice enough. I was glad to be heading back to Siesta Key though.
We made our dinner in the apartment as we had so much food in and had a few glasses of wine and watched some TV.
It was nice to have had a relaxing day for a change in Florida as usually we have been just in Orlando hitting the rides.
Tomorrow - Busch Gardens
