Just thought I'd throw in a quick update on our Easter holiday :cool1:

DH called our travel insurance company today, just to make sure he was fully covered. Although they covered him last year, M&S said that they would cover anything on the annual policy NOT related to his benign tumour this time

So, we set off on an internet and phone call search for someone to insure him :hyper2:
Spent most of the day 'surfing' ;) searched the 'Bacup' site, as I've found info on there before, and found a useful UK based Meningioma support site that is fairly new

Well, quotes varied between £650  : and £88 so, of course, we've gone for the £88 'Age Concern' figure

Just a note to anyone with a medical condition, it pays to ring round before giving up in despair :flower3:

Thats great news Alison, so glad you managed to get your DH covered for a reasonable price :goodvibes

Happy planning :cool1:

Sue :cutie:

Well Done on getting such a good price! When there is almost £600 difference, it certainly does pay to shop around!!

:flower:

Glad you managed to get the insurance, Alison, and for a more reasonable price.

Alison, if you don't mind me asking, when you have applied for travel insurance, do you have to fill in a huge application form and get medical evidence relating your dh's condition?

I'm just curious because my dh-to-be has haemophilia, and we have only travelled on 'normal' insurances before because that's what he always did with his parents.

It does always worry me that if there was an problem, the insurance company would use his condition to avoid paying out, even for something unrelated to it (he has a nasal spray these days, so the 'old style' treatment is, touch wood, a very rare thing) - but I would just like to sort it all out properly.

Thanks for your help :flower: .

Kristie - have sent you a PM

.

Different companies have different criteria for medical screening which, or so I understand, is why the price can differ so much! :faint:

DH just called the screening numbers, answered a few questions and they gave him a quote - or not, as in the case of M&S
One company asked for his consultant's fax number so that they could fax him a questionnaire to complete.
We provided the number but don't expect to hear from that one for a few weeks as, what NHS consultant has time to fill in forms these days... :cutie:

Main questions seem to be whether you've had a diagnosis of cancer, whether it's treatable/terminal, when you last saw your consultant, how often you see them (one company suggested a possible higher premium if you saw them more than once every 4 mths.... :confused3 ), when you last had any surgery / treatment and whether you're on a waiting list for anything. One company asked whether he was still allowed to drive............. ! Couldn't quite get my head around this one as he won't be driving on our trip even though he has a valid license and has been told he can continue as long as he doesn't have any fits :confused3

I'd certainly get your dh 2 b to ring around and see ::yes::
M&S said that they would cover DH, on their policy, for anything other than his known condition for the US.
I think, if you don't declare the condition on application, it can negate the policy - or have I got the wrong end of the stick? :sunny:

For the EU they said it would be okay and just to take the E111.

Good luck.
:goodvibes

Thanks very much for all of the information Alison - we'll start ringing around!

You're welcome :sunny:

I'd start by ringing the cheapest - or whoever you normally use - and asking if they'll cover him first.

Good luck

That is such a difference ~ Glad that you managed to get your DH covered.

That is amazing! Glad you got it sorted without paying the earth :sunny:
