Janet told me about an accident caused to her friend's teenage daughter outside school.

3 boys about 14 years old were riding up and down the pavement on motorbikes outside the school gate and knocked her daughter over. Luckily though she is going to be ok after her various cuts and bruises are healed.

It was more a case of mindless stupidity than an accident.

However, to add insult to injury, not only physical injuries but mental as any parent will understand... The police are unable to act in any positive way.

Insufficient witnesses saw what happened (deputy head and 2 other pupils, is that not enough ??)

They can't confiscate the bikes because they're not allowed to.

It seems the youths are known to the police but have complained about police harassment, so they have to stay away from them for 28 days !! Now, where did that tin pot idea come from ??

Why oh why do we elect Politicians who allow our laws to emasculate the police in this way ?

..... it is appalling Terry. I'm sure the parents of this poor girl will be very upset by this. Thank goodness she isn't badly hurt.

I don't understand re the police harrassment of these boys  ..... that would suggest that they can commit any crime they wish and get away with it?

This is awful - I am glad the girl was not seriously injured Terry!

Were they scrambling motocross bikes?? I didnt know that youngsters of that age were allowed motorised vehicles on the public highway?

We do have some stupid laws really, when you think about it!

The bikes were apparently normal motorbikes and were being ridden on the pavements. One of the 14 year-olds is a pupil at the school where the accident happened. I don't know what disciplinary action, if any, is being taken by the school themselves.

Both parents are haunted by 'what ifs' and are understandably frustrated and angry by the absence of any positive police action.

What kind of message are we giving out to these mindless young people? They evidently think they're untouchable.

Good to be back on the boards by the way

Janet:D

Unfortunately this is a sign of the times in Britain, police are unable or unwilling to take action against lawbreakers. That's why thousands are emigrating/retiring abroad. In twenty years time there will be hardly any decent people left here - we're off to Florida to retire and virtually everybody I know has plans to go to Spain, Portugal, Florida etc. The only chance we have is for the police to enforce a zero tolerance policy as in New York - but it won't happen, far too many do-gooders concerned about the rights of criminals and vandals.

The problems faced by your officers sound simliar to the problems we face here in the US.
